I would like to know how often those that have CCW's carry. I'm not old enough to get one (almost though!! :))

My dad has a CCW but he never carries. He keeps them in vehicles all the time and brings his Glock when he travels but doesn't carry it when in public.

So, do you never leave the house w/o it? Only when going to shady parts of town? Or never carry? I am curious.

Rarely, as I have a permit from Utah, but live in Illinois. Traveling into a state where my permit is honored had a surprising effect on me...like when I got my driver's license, or college graduation...oh yeah, it's FREEDOM!

Why does your dad not carry whenever he goes out?

If I am leaving my home, I'm carrying. Even if it's to take out the trash. No, I don't live in a bad area.

I have another firearm I use for HD, but if I am out & come home I will leave my sidearm on me till I put my PJs on for the night.

I feel like when I get mine, I will carry all the time at first. But after awhile it might become situational. Like driving, at first its great and all you want to do, then after awhile it's like, "dang, I don't want to drive down to the store."

**I guess my dad only carries at work sometimes, because he is sort of law enforcement but not really considered a LEO. He has dealt with several civil "disturbances" on his way to lunch but has never had to pull it. I guess you must appear intimidating with your hand in the "ready to pull" position without the weapon showing.

Mine comes with me almost 100% of the time. Sometimes it stays in a lock box in my car when I'm working (I work as a cook in a restaurant and it's hard to conceal my weapon under a t-shirt). It also stays home if I'm enjoying an adult beverage which is rare, or if I'm driving across state lines. Other than that I'm always armed.

really depends on where you live. Those in cities may not carry as often as those in the rural areas. I have a permit now, but I live in a city and like to go to restaurants where I cant ccw. Open carry is legal but its asking for big trouble if you actually do. I have never felt like I need to unless I go hiking. In that case you are far from any help and not so many people around, so carrying can't hurt.

I drop my PM9 in my pocket or iwb in the morning and it stays there all day, at home and out, except for my son's school and work; essentially like my wallet. The key to daily carry is to buy small. Your dad's Glock is probably a bit bulky and inconvenient (ducking the flame!), and I would consider a small single stack auto or 38 snubby for every day carry. While you're at the gun shop, buy a full sized auto for the range and sometimes carry, and you'll have it all! ...for now. ;) Before you say too much $$, start saving a little money each month now and talk to your dad about your plans and a possible 21st bday gift. Btw, I bought my step-daughter a 38 for Christmas last year, her ccw class for her bday in march, and got her moved into her first apartment in June, all ready to take responsibility for her safety - a good selling point for your dad.

If I have my pants on ... otherwise it is within reach. With home invasions sky high and the number of armed robberies / mugging and car jackings in the same realm; it is a hit and miss or coin flipping as to whether your number is up. I will not go silently into the night. I am a man of some years and can remember when you went to sleep at night with every door in the house not only unlocked but swung wagon wide open. Swithch keys in all the vehicles including the farm tractor. You can't do that anymore!!
Young man, when you are old enough, mature enough, receive the required and needed training; I would suggest you obtain the required permit and carry your weapon. It won't do you any service locked in the car or vault or even in some other condition than ready to fire. The gun doesn't make you any bigger or macho, just ready to deffend yours and the lives of your loved ones.

I almost always carry, whether it's a kel-tec p3at in shorts and flip-flop weather or an xd .40 when jeans and a jacket help with concealment.

On a bit of a side note, when you decide to cc, invest in a quality holster. This is one place not to skimp, a quality comfortable unit will make cc much easier and less awkward, not to mention providing better concealment.

If I had only known this was going to happen today....

That’s why I carry all the time.

Hi, I carry every time I leave My House. Have daily for years since I aquired My first permit while living in Ny 20 years ago. It's like the wallet, keys, cell phone, weapon and reload I would feel naked without any of these items. Over the years I have gone to lighter and smaller weapons starting with a Ruger P89 loaded with 18+1 ( aftermarket magazine ) 9mm 147gr. Black Talons to CZ RAMI 9mm with 10+1 124gr.+P Speer Gold dots to Colt Det. Spec.6 shot Winchester 38 HP to Kahr PM9 6+1 loaded with Speer Gold dots 124+P . I also practice monthly ( usally weekly ) with My carry weapon. Not to sound paranoid, but I could find Myself in a situation where I would need to defend life or limb anywhere today in America. One only needs to watch the news or read the paper to see shootings happening in nice nieghborhoods, churches, schools, shopping centers. Instead of leaving home unarmed I made sure I have the proper holster/belt/gun combination to make carrying a weapon everyday more comfortable . It's a frame of mind ( and no I'm not a mall ninja ) like locking Your doors and windows at night, just another part of My personal security system . ........WVleo

Everyday/Everywhere except when I'm on campus, which is uaully for a couple of hours every day. If it were legal I would carry on campus, but as it currently stands big brother knows whats best for me and I am disarmed while there.

I carry everyday. Right after my wallet goes in, my CCW is next, after that the only time I'm unarmed is when I'm at work. If I could carry at work without getting fired I would.

Always carry when I go to town and most of the time when I'm outside around the place. In the house there's guns within a few steps.

To me the gun is like insurance. You don't know when you will need it, so you better have it all the time.

My place was hit by a Tornado a couple weeks after the insurance ran out.:(

I pack whenever I can do so legally, meaning whenever I'm not on the job or heading to the Post Office.
Having a gun in the car is about worthless, really ... on-body or as least bag carry is far superior. A car is a great weapon, but a pistol disabled and locked up is not. A pistol NOT disabled/locked up in a car is just waiting to be stolen ... so what's the point of "car carry"?

Get your permit, get a decent CC pistol that is happy in your hand AND concealable, and get a real carry rig. There are endless threads on these subjects, so your research should be fairly easy.

I carry about 90% of the time it is legal for me to do so, but, that really isn't that much since my employer disallows firearms on premsis and you also can't carry any place that serves alcohol (including any restaruant) as a rule in SC. So that cuts out weekdays and weekend evenings... So unfortunately, just put me down as carrying during the day on the weekends.

Like driving, at first its great and all you want to do, then after awhile it's like, "dang, I don't want to drive down to the store."

I can't agree. When a kid gets his DL, he wants to drive to have fun, to feel mature, powerful, sheer enjoyment, whatever.

None are reasons to carry a gun.

This is not something to get your kicks from or to boost your ego. And if it's just a passing fancy, a fad, etc, you need to revisit the mindset side of this whole thing. Thinking, training, tooling; in that order. Get your thinking right, then train.
