I am in the market for a new pistol. Something generally considered "full-" or "service" sized. I want it to be in .45ACP. Steel vs Plastic is not much of an issue. I have tried but can not use any of the .45ACP glocks. The double stack even in the SF version is too large, ad the 36 just felt "Wrong." I like everything about the Sig P220 except the price. I just can't afford it. I like the Ruger P345 except for the manual safety. Same for the M&P45. I know they come without the thumb safety, but in 5 months of looking, I have not found one. Is there anything out there I missed, something I should be looking at. This will be a winter carry/ truck/ HD duty gun.

Make sure you at least take a look st the Springfield XD-45 it is a fantastic pistol I have had mine for many years.

Get a SIG P220 CPO - Certified Pre Owned with one year SIG Factory warranty. I bought two myself, a P226 and a P229 and they both have been fantastic. SIG goes through them and their gunsmiths will replace any needed parts which usually is all the springs for good meausre and the roll pins. Mine both looked as new inside and out and that is what many report.
Summit Gun Broker has some right now for $585 - German P220 no less!! You can check you local gun stores also asking them if they have any CPO P220s.
That way you will not have to settle for anything less than what you really want. The P220 is a superb pistol as you already have discovered.

SR1911 is the way to go , Cost and reliability 
If you have smaller hands the Springfield XD 45 is a great choice. The grip is very manageable. It also has the same grip angle as the 1911. I have many .45's, but I use the XD as my nightstand gun.
The 1911 is also great, but more money for a quality one.
While I like my CZ 97BD and FNP 45 USG, they are probably too big for you. The grips are pretty meaty.

FYI you can remove the thumb safeties on M&P pistols, including the M&P45.

How about a Sig 250? DAO, no safey.

+1. The springfield XD45 acp is very nice to handle and shoots great.
A well made 1911 is an excellent choice, but the vast majority being made today are junk. They are being put together by companies who know the average shooter won't go through 1,000 rounds in a lifetime and just want something to look at and be able to say "I have a 1911". If you choose a 1911, don't waste your money on the budget guns. Get a good one.
I like the Glock. If you don't, I also like the FN. It is a big gun, but with the smallest backstrap it is quite a bit smaller through the grip than the Glock. The FN has a safety, as does the Ruger or M&P which are also good choices. I'd learn to live with the safety.

I have a lot of different .45s. Love my M&P 45C. It has no safety. Best fit in my hand than any i have owned. 100% reliable. Shoots like a dream.
