I am pretty sure the NRA is meeting with lawmakers now, and over the past few days. In my opinion, the lawmakers said they would support the NRA and vice-versa until something like this happens, in which case the NRA would have to support some sort of legislation to control firearms. Let me be clear that this is strictly MY OPINION and nobody else's. Please don't argue my opinion. Feel free to state your own, but don't tell me I'm wrong unless you have proof. I have never seen the NRA go this quiet and dark for this long; It worries me as an NRA life-member.
Since I am under the firm belief that we are going to have to concede something, my question is what do you think it will be? I have them ranked in order of likelihood as follows.
1. more heavily regulated private sales? i.e. close the "gunshow loophole"
2. More obstacles to buying a gun. i.e. psych evaluations, required yearly training, etc.
3. renewed assault weapons ban
4. "high capacity magazine" ban
5. online gun sales (doubtful)
*A quick note about the first one - Personally, I always use an FFL to sell my guns privately because I want to xfer ownership and not have the police knocking on my door if buyer decides to commit a crime with that gun. To me, it's worth the transfer fee to do it cleanly. I realize you don't have to do this and it's your legal right not to. This is simply the way I choose to do things. This first item wouldn't affect me as much as the other ones would.
Items 2 and 3 may be flip-flopped in my mind as well.
Of all the things in my lifetime that have threatened our 2A rights, this one worries me the most. My friends in the gun industry have even said they have never seen anything like it and they too are worried.
Any thoughts on this? anything you can say to console me?
