What guns have you sold/got rid of, and why?

I guess that I have been lucky, I have not had to part with too many guns. I had a 20 Gauge single shot that I got from a friend that owed me a few bucks , A coworker wanted to maybe get into hunting so I sold him that shotgun for what I had into it . I also sold a Ruger Red Hawk .44 Magnum I was hurting for cash,and my S&W 29 shot better for me than the Ruger so,I let the Red Hawk go to a friend...wonder what ever happened to that gun, He got into Big trouble with the Law(Domestic violence):banghead: and I think he is residing in the crowbar hotel.

I am also the guy for years who didn't sell a gun. But late in 2013 I faced facts that some guns just were not a fit for me. Mostly handguns. Mostly Sigs and Glocks. But 3 Rugers went as well. And Makarovs and CZ's. It was all good as I think owning and learning those like the back of my hand helped refine my preferences.

Yep, I've sold a few as well.

Ruger 10/22 Carbine - it jammed on crap ammo and I was too young in my gun experience to know what to do about it. Plus, I just never warmed up to the looks . . . that curved buttplate in particular.

Beretta 92FS - It never fit my hand and I never got truly used to the slide safety. That safety was right where I gripped the slide and the stabbing motion to flick it off was inconsistent for me.

Beretta Neos Carbine Kit - A neat gun accessory, but I never shot it much. I wanted it to be a takedown gun, but the slide, striker, and springs were a blink away from launching with the barrel off. Not a good plan for a purposeful takedown gun.

That's it for now. I am thinking of parting with a Pietta 1860 revolver as I got the black powder experience behind me and haven't warmed up to it fully either.

4" Ruger Service Six, some regret
Charter Arms AR7, that I don't miss. It was reliable and reasonably accurate, but when I cleaned the action it was full of black goo remnants of MIM guts.
Much of the stuff I've sold was the result of someone saying they were looking for something and me remembering I had one that hadn't been shot in a while.

Bushmaster AR with 20" HBAR, A3 upper. I bought it used with full (heavy) LMT quad rail and bipod. No scope, just a detachable carry handle/sight. Paid $800 right after Obama was elected but before he took office. I swapped out the gas block front sight for a low profile and the fore end for a Houge free float, which I drilled and tapped for a sling swivel for the bipod. I put a middle-low end scope on it.

Though it would be a coyote/prairie dog gun for a move out west. We ended up staying in Michigan and it no longer had a real use or role. Additionally, I decided I wanted to build an AR carbine. I sold it for $1000 not too long after Sandy Hook. I probably did a little bit better than break even on the deal.

That's the only gun I've ever sold. I am seriously thinking about selling my Saiga 12 ga. I got it used for $650 and did the "conversion" from sporter/import style to more standard AK style. On the one hand, I know I could make some money on it, but on the other hand, I can't easily replace it. On the gripping hand, I don't really shoot it that much anyway.

I have sold and traded many over the last 10 years. I miss some of them a little but not too bad. I have been slowly improving the quality of my collection. When I first got into shooting, and was on a tight budget, I wanted the most bang for the buck I could get. Now I appreciate the finer arms. One well placed shot is better than 100 sprayed all over the target.

I have traded/sold a Colt Defender, Romanian Tokarev, A Taurus TCP, A Yugo SKS(I liked it, but had other SKSs) A Romanian PSL, A Draco AK pistol, A WASR 10, A Ruger 10-22, a Remington 870 and 1100, a GSG 522, an RG22 revolver, A CZ-72, A Remington 700, a Taurus 1911... and maybe a couple others I'm forgetting. I don't overly miss any of them. Some I traded to other guns, sometimes I needed some cash. But I moved on to better things.

None of them were real lemons. The biggest let down was probably the PSL. I lusted over it for months, saving up every dollar I had to buy it. Shooting it was just not pleasant... it wasn't accurate enough to enjoy, cleaning it after corrosive ammo was a pain, the acrid corrosive ammo smoke blown back into your face after every shot was bad too. The stock was too short, the trigger was bad. Neat guns, but just not for me.

Overall though, I don't regret any of them moving on. I'm happy with my collection now.

I recently sold an XDS 45 3.3. I picked up the 4 inch version a while ago, so the 3.3 was somewhat redundant. I used the money from the 3.3 to buy a used P220. I also had an EMP Springfield couldn't get to work with HP ammo after 4 attempts. I loved the gun but had enough, and they replaced it with a Lightweight Loaded 1911.

I don't typically sell guns and it's been a long time since I did so. Though I frequently trade less used guns in my collection for guns I want to get. Case in point I traded this Desert Eagle in 357 Mag

One of the better trades for me as far as I'm concerned.

Have only sent two down the road. Once they are in the safe they don't leave. But the two I sold were for a good reason. Both were sold during the height of the Sandy Hook panic.

Sold a S&W 637 to my Uncle so he a small carry piece. I never carried it and didn't like shooting it. It's been on his side every day since.

Second was a XD 9. I bought it off a friend when he was hard up for money. Finally came across a CZ 76BD and bought it. Having both in the safe is redundant to me. So I sold the XD to one of my best friends so he had a pistol for home protection. I won't get into why he didn't have one previously.

Selling them off so two people can protect themselves and their families is as good a reason as any. I have a lot of tools that I would sell before a firearm if I absolutely needed the money. I'm one of those people that can't comprehend why you would sell a firearm

Ruger LC9. The wife held one and really liked it. Ordered it during the Banic, waited six weeks to get one. The wife fired three shots and was done with it. I tried to like it, but couldn't, so I sold it easily and let the next guy enjoy it. Put the money toward a Shield, and have no regrets!

I've traded a couple handguns for larger calibers. 2 guns I sold because I needed the cash. It was a long time ago. Now I wish I hadn't sold them. Ruger Redhawk 41 magnum revolver SS. They don't make it anymore. Also a Ruger mini 14 ranch rifle all set up with scope and bipods.

1) Ruger MK3...good gun, but wasnt shooting it, sold it to a buddy so it could get some use.

2) SP101...served as my primary carry gun for a while, didnt like the shortcoming of a revolver, sold it along with guns (3) and (4) to buy a G17, much better choice.

3) P64 Mak...good gun, bought on C&R for cheap, shot great but ammo got hard to find.

4) S&W BodyGuard 380...this gun kinda sucked, bought it as an alt. carry gun, but with the crappy trigger and short sight radius, i couldnt reliably hit targets past 5 yards, so it wouldnt do squat in an actual SD encounter.

Over the years---it was mostly lost interest or to fund something else or to upgrade------a lot a times the upgrade turned out not to be.

In 2006 I had so many--I realized if one came up missing I'd never even miss it--so decided to streamline-----by 2009-2010 with money problems catching up to me due to the recession I was down to 2.

Now I'm up to around 20 and many are duplicates or near duplicates as I've refined what works for me and what doesn't.

Haven't got rid of anything in a long time but still not above it as I've been eyeing the Maverick and Taurus' for trades---won't get much out of them but don't have much in them and I'm still about streamlining

Zeke---I felt the same way about the M&P .45---while there was nothing wrong with it----it just felt like I was shooting an expensive POS and was quickly dumped while I could still get most of my money out of it.

Sold a Revelation 200 .30-30 (same thing as a Marlin 336C) for enough money to buy a NEF Handi Rifle in .280 Rem. Big mistake. Love the .280 but that NEF was a piece of junk that had terrible headspace issues and wouldn't group worth a crap.

Traded the NEF Handi above for a Mossberg 535 3.5" 12 gauge so I'd have something to duck and turkey hunt with. I'm happy with that trade.

Traded a Ruger GP100 in immaculate condition for a Winchester 1400 20 gauge. :banghead: Another big mistake.

Traded off a S&W Sigma .40 and haven't looked back. It was a piece of junk and I was glad to be rid of it.

Last year alone I've rid myself of:

CZ 452 in 17 hmr. Nice gun. Wrong caliber
Savage 93 in 17 hmr. Wrong caliber
Norinco 97 copy. Took up too much room
Uberti 73 in 357. Nice gun taking up space
2 Ruger Vaqueros. Lost interest.
S&W M-19-5 LNIB. Too nice to shoot
Ruger SR22. A friend wanted a 22 to teach his daughter to shoot
S&W shield. Not sure why

Of those I would like to have another CZ American in 22 in stead of the 17. I am indifferent to the others.

Sold a Beretta 92FS to buy my XD45. Can't claim to be a big bore guy if you carry a 9mm.
Sold my Marlin 22 mag to buy a TC Venture .223. The 22 mag was a good gun. But my Venture is a tack driver. I wanted something for 200-300 plus yard yotes and cats. The Marlin just wasn't going to give me that. And neither were my JM 1894, 444s, or 1895. And I sold a stainless Blackhawk 44mag to buy a stainless Redhawk 44mag. Simply because I was exponentially more accurate with the Redhawk than I was the Blackhawk. Tried different grips, trigger work, different loads, nothing improved. I was better freehand with the Redhawk than I was off bags with the Blackhawk. Other than that, nothing. I don't have a single firearm I'm willing to part with. I may add to my collection. But what I have now, I will have when I leave this world.

Hakim rifle. Barrel was a sewer pipe but it went bang. Auction it off and made $300.00 on the deal. I need to be able to do that everyday.

Out of the half dozen or so that I have sold, only 2 do I semi regret.

The last revision of the Sigma 9mm. After trigger kit and sear block work over, it turned out to be a nice shooter. Sold it to raise funds for a Kimber.

High Standard Sentinel IV in 22 mag. snubbie. A sort of rare gun, but not much value. Used in a trade for a Hi-Point 9mm carbine.

When I first started buying guns I accumulated them like toys. I bought a bunch of guns because I saw them in movies and I thought they were "cool". I bought whatever caught my eye (that I could afford) and I didn’t give a whole lot of thought to how useful the gun might be or how easy it might be to find ammunition or accessories for it.

Over time I realized that I don't get any more particular thrill from shooting a 1911 than I do from shooting a GLOCK and I decided to get rid of all my toys and concentrate on guns that are commonly available and useful for self defense and I ended up selling pretty much everything except for an M&P 9 and a 9C and my wife's LC9. I also kept 2 rifles. I kept a 4006 for sentimental reasons (and because I bought it in a private sale).

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d rather have 1 gun, 10 magazines for it and a thousand rounds of ammunition than 5 different guns with 2 magazines and 200 rounds of different ammunition each. I also find its easier to talk my wife into buying 9mm ammunition in bulk than to talk her into buying 9 and.....

The only thing on my gun buying horizon these days is an M&P .40 and that only because my employer issued me one and I fell madly in love the first time I took it to the range.

CZ Rami 9mm - Could not go through an entire magazine without a failure. Traded up to a Springfield Armory XD 40 subcompact and never looked back.

Beretta Cougar 45 - Needed rent money, loved the gun though.

Taurus Raging Judge Magnum, Savage 17HMR, Escort Magnum 12 gauge - All trades for S&W 500

Cz-82, not all that impressive or accurate. Pretty sure mine was shot out (and yes i know about the non traditional rifling). Kahr cm9, total piece of junk with an unrewarding customer service experience. I spent more testing ammo than I did on the gun and sold for a loss. Walther PPS, majorly defective out of the box, factory wouldn't repair on their dime. Glock 36, sold without firing a shot after getting an XDs 9mm. Argentinian mauser, totally shot out and dangerous to fire. Sold it to someone as a rebarreling project.

3 stand out:

Russian Makarov - Got it NIB for $90. Never a FTF, accurate beyond my expectations.

Russian SKS - Unissued condition, reliable, not a tack driver, but fun to shoot.

Had to sell both in desperate times. It pains me to see what they both would be worth now, so if you know, for gods sake don't tell me.

Kimber Custom Stainless II - A real beauty, but the darn thing gave me problems from the start. Failures to eject, mainly. I chalked it up to tight tolerances at first, but after repeated failures finally sent it back to Kimber. I got it back less than 2 weeks later and was shocked to find the frame all scratched up. Seriously, like, gouged in places. I called Kimber to get a return authorization and the guy on the other end all but accused me of damaging it myself but eventually agreed to issue the RA. Long story short, they did me right and fixed the damage but I never could feel totally confident in it and ended up dealing it for a Glock 30SF. I don't regret selling it, I just wish it would have worked right from the start.

That was me. At one time I had 75-80. After a while I figured that there were some I was just never gonna use. Can't see the use of having a gun I don't shoot. So, I worried about them getting stolen, then was paying $1,000 a year for insurance on something I'd never use.

Most guys with a lot of guns think they are collectors. In reality, they're accumulators. And, I've hit the age that I should be making them go away before I do.
