I might take up the project of building one. After all nothing else to do at the moment. I just feel like I would mess it up and order a part that’s not legal here because I’m not the brightest in this department. I’m mainly hunting and bolts
It would only be illegal if you put on the wrong stuff, once you get the power the rest is easy.

There are plenty on here that will help you out, what part of ny are you in, you shou!d be able to get a lower for $60-100 depending on your ffl.
Yeah the community is great! I’m in the Albany area and my FFL is a old friend who works out of his house. He really just orders thing for people and does pickups.

Ok good, you can just get a Anderson, they should be $40-$50 plus shipping and what your ffl my charge you for the transfer. Or get a better lower, tho there's nothing wrong with the Anderson. Decide how you want the gun, best of getting a complete upper, bca and psa make good adorable uppers. They run $220-$400

The barrel threads will have to be made in usable, easy way is to get a thread cover and pin and weld it. Then you have to pick it you want a stock like the thordson or the grip type like the spur grip type. The thordson is one of the only ones you feel like your in control off.

And a cheap parts kit and buffer should be under $100 for that stuff.

I'm about 2 hours from Albany, so if I'm a bind not far is you need help. There are some good videos on YouTube how to put the gun together, can't remember either midwaysua or brownells have some good videos. There are a few key tools you need but not all are needed.

I appreciate that thank you very much. Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m gonna try to start ordering some parts and get more educated on all of it. I’ll let you know if I run into anything. Also the spur grip looks very uncomfortable to use. So definitely a thordsen.

The spur is not bad, I'm for bench shooting you just can't grip the gun with one hand like the thordson. Buying from thordson is cheapest, they have 2 different stocks now. They have sales to. Most parts kits come with a grip, you can cut that down and get a idea of the spur or boar grip will work for you.

The manual of arms for an AR is easier than the Minis. The Minis are more 'acceptable' in appearance. They are significantly more expensive than base model AR. More than $800 usually. Of course, you can put crap on an AR and reach that price.

My Mini set up wasn't cheap - expensive optics. Installing optics, BTW is easier on an AR with the appropriate rail.

But don't worry, when Joe becomes President, they will ban all mag fed semis anyway. Sigh. Seriously, the exemption for Minis which came out of the original AWB has slipped by some Antis but not all. There have been rampages with the gun.

Building the lower isn't that hard I built my first in about an hour after watching utube bid and building along with the video.

The hardest part was theah release roll pin. I built mine on an Anderson lower with a complete psa upper, I clouding an ept lower parts kit.

I'm about an hour and a half from you.

There was no such thing as grandfathering. You either complied with registration or you had to get rid of them. There are legal ones to be had. They look gross but are workable. I got rid of my ar's except for one upper a RRA Heavy Bull. I then purchased a DPMS single shot lower. I then purchased a few mini's. Problem solved. Estimated compliance was 2% at best.

The AR is America’s Rifle and New York or not you should own one. While current law prohibits certain “features” there are many sellers online who provide guidelines for what is lawful. Should you decide to assemble your own my ardent suggestion would be to start with Aero Precision’s M4E1 Advanced upper and M4E1 lower.

The pictures below will point to specific reasons why this set makes assembly user friendly. Some of the most difficult portions have been addressed with innovation at a very reasonable price.

I wish you the best whatever you decide, keep abreast of local RKBA efforts, and welcome to THR.

At the tail end of the lower receiver is the access hole for the rear takedown pin’s detent and spring. Aero threads this to allow a small 4/40 set screw to keep these in place while installing the receiver extension.

Another bit of threading, this time saving the tedious task of installing the roll pin through the bolt release while keeping it aligned under spring pressure.

Thanks to the M4E1 Advanced upper receiver’s integrated barrel nut system, compatible handguards align perfectly without timing issues.

Note that the trigger guard is also integrated saving you from yet another roll pin installation, one that can break an “open ear” receiver.
