Any 40s&w Fans?

After that, I bought a GLOCK 22, figuring it would be lighter and easier to carry off duty. However, I found the recoil unpleasant and my recovery time between shots was too long.
Tom Givens on his favorite Glock in .40S&W, the G35.

I initially bought a G23 and had a grip reduction and put good sights on it. I hated it. Sold it in a few days. Tried a G22, it was better but not optimal. Then tried a G35 and loved it.

I am not a fan of .40 S&W in compact and subcompact pistols. In smaller guns the recoil is too brisk, the cartridge is hard on small guns, accelerating wear, and capacity is reduced too much.

Givens, who was a long time 1911 shooter, also has another good quote, "The 1911 is a one or two bad guy gun, in a three or four bad guy world."

However, I think Givens is now using a G17.

I got hooked on the .40 round when my LGS talked me into buying my Glock 27. I was never a big fan of Glock but the 27 made a believer out of me and I took a liking to the .40
I use the 27 for CCW plus I have a Beretta Cougar 8040 that I really like.

I'm a big .40 fan. My first was a G23 that I bought back around 2003. I currently have a G27, G23 and G35 and I've had quite a few others but as far as the .40 goes, it's my favorite option because I can get a 9mm sized gun but with bigger bullets. It's also very versatile, you can reload it for pretty cheap considering that once fired .40 brass is about the cheapest brass out there, it's great for self defense as you have a lot of good premium bullets to choose from and it's got enough power to work as a deer or pig gun. I have a few 10mm's too but to be honest about it, there really isn't anything a 10mm will kill that you can't kill just as dead with a .40 S&W.

My experience with the .40 runs very close to Golden (post 39). I didn't care for the 96D but qualed expert for the 10 years that I carried it prior to the P2000 which I shot 100% scores (except twice) in 8 years that I had that gun. I liked the P2000. I own 2 .40s and have LOTS of that old 155 grain rounds and a reasonable amount of the 135s that I use as carry ammo - not range ammo which I buy online. When prices come back down below $300 I'll buy a G23 LEO trade in (even though I still can get blue label pricing on new guns) and some conversion barrels for it. I own some 9s (cheap to shoot) but I have no negative issues with the .40.

I've owned a few 40s.
The Glock 27 I had was a miserable experience. Far to snappy for me.
The 23 was ok but just didn't strum my strings.
The Glock 24 was fun but I needed money at the time.
The Keltec P40 was even more miserable than the G27. But accurate. (Which actually ticked me off since I liked the accuracy but hated the thing)

I still have ~800 rounds of .40 sitting around to use in other people's toys.
I do like another friends 40 XDs but it's still snappier than my P239.

Nothing wrong with the round. It's just not for me.

I thought anyone complaining about the recoil or snappiness of .40 S&W were just not real men. Until I bought my XDS 40 and ran some defensive loads through it. It is a bit unpleasant. Had to decide whether to put on a Pachmyr grip sleeve, or replace my briefs with flowered panties. Went with the grip sleeve and all was well.

It's the gun, not the ammo.... It was very unpleasant to shoot 45acp out the XDS too, but I had no problem shooting 40 & 45 out the Shield. Matter of fact, the only other snappy guns I fired (excluding the XDS 45) were little pocket 9mms like the DB9 and .357 out of a lightweight Snubby.. never had a problem recoil wise shooting 40 or 45 out of other guns...

I have a USP .40 I bought used (my first .40) and a VP40. They handle the recoil very well, and I love them even more when 9mm disappears off the shelves. :)

Carried a Glock 27 for years. It was my work piece, woods carry, and concealed carry. Always went bang. Accurate enough. Decent stopping power. Felt confident that I could take out a bear if I meet one on the trail. Love 40 cal.

I agree. Sig P226 circa 2001, 40s&w, da/sa. Love Aimsurplus!

I didn't have a 40 for over a decade but bought a new M&P M2.0 Compact this year and it's flat-out awesome. Soft-shooting, goldilocks size, and 14 rounds of 40 on tap. I like it so much I started reloading for it as well and bought a 9mm conversion barrel to be able to shoot both calibers. Has been flawless through the first couple of range visits with the conversion barrel.

Highly recommended!

I have 3 .40 Cal pistols and the Walther PPQ M2 is my favorite one. I also reload for them. 180 gr HST in the PPQ and 96 and 165 JHP out of the G27.

It's great in a full-size pistol. I understand it's limitations but I also embrace diversity in ammo choices. During the peak panic, I didn't see .40 availability dip significantly. I knew if I needed .40 I could get it without too much hassle.
It's not the caliber du jour anymore, but I don't see it going away. It's got a huge installed base.

Great projectile, but you made me realize that I've never loaded it up in 40S&W.

...on "The LIST"!

She's nice and slim without the Picaninny [sic] rail. Nice.

Slim? I'm above avg size(6'2" 275lb) and this P226 fills ALL of my grip. Love the feel, but slim?
