Underestimating the 12ga

I had an aunt who kept a single barrel .410 for protection, and a cousin who kept a 16 ga.

I would not choose a single shot for protection. My preference would be a Mossberg semi-auto 20.

If I still used shotguns for fun, I would love a 20 ga. Backpack. I had not known of them before.

A semi auto with a 18 1/2" barrel would be a good choice. I do have a Mossberg Pump Flex in 20ga with a cruiser stock and a tactical stock. Also have a slug barrel for it. I am really fond of my OU 12ga 20" barrel so much I plan on purchasing one in 20ga.

Are there times (on the street or in a self-defense situation) when a shotgun is not appropriate - absolutely. One of only two accessories I want on my short-barreled shotgun is a sling -since there's times when you need both hands free and don't want to ground that shotgun. The other accessory is an elastic butt cuff that holds five rounds - right where it's never in the way - until needed...

I still keep the ol' Mossberg 500 on hand for defense, primarily against bears. I really would like to get a Beretta 1301; that would maybe cause me to demote my CZ Bren 805 & AR to backup. As it stands I'm a bit more comfortable with the manual of arms of those rifles. I do need to put in a bit more work with the pumpgun.

See, now if they played Halo 1&2 they would know the power of a shotgun....and generally know how to use it.

If they played the original Halo, then they'd know that the pistol reigned supreme!
:)

As an aside, I've been playing the first Halo with my 9 year old son and having a blast.

Can't do Halo. Screaming headache in 15 mins.
Puking sick.
Diff TVs too.

I can do other games if I take breaks. Gears didn't bother me.
Crisis kinda did.

Halo dang near killed me. Horrible.

I keep a Mossberg 500 12 gauge with Mini-Clip and Mini-Slugs close at hand.
I consider it to be a good hallway gun and appreciate having 8+1 slugs travelling at .45 acp speeds at hand.
I tend to keep my original point of aim at belt buckle height in practice runs as succeeding shots tend to rise.
Anyway, a low shot that misses is only likely to hit the floor and I don't live slab on grade.
