I shot two of my bargains today :)
Picked up a Leopold Rifleman 3-9x40 for $54. (Paid $169 for a 4-12x40 two weeks ago. Still a good price).
I need to get some rings and bases. The Leopolds are not as long as the Weavers that came with the Savage Axis wood stock combos.

Man, SUPER jealous of that deal on the Leupold. I checked to see if here was any stock near me and no luck. I ended up getting a Bushnell Trophy Bone Collector Edition for $75, so not bad but certainly no Leupold for $54!

As an aside, anyone have a good source for Axis mags? Looks like I'll be paying $40 a mag after shipping everywhere, which is unfortunate. I like to have at least 3 mags total for my bolt action rifles, which means $80 ($30 more than the rifle!). One of my buddies is the online marketing guy for Locked & Loaded, but I'd rather not try to cash in a favor on Axis mags, haha.

You may want to check with Presley's in Bartonville , or Pekin gun. Take a little road trip never know you may find a new gun:thumbup:

Yes I was also disappointed to find that the mags are $40 each. But I definitely want to replace the older style mag with the plastic tab for the style with the spring loaded button

Like the Savage 10/11 mags? Is that possible? I have a Savage 10 in 308 that it could share mags with if that's the case, that would be awesome.

Edit: Never mind, just found the new style Axis ones.

Yea the wood stocked axis that I picked up to give to the old man has the newer mags and I thought about swapping them out but I figure that’s bad karma, I’d pay for that one later lol. So instead, I’ll just buy a new one and keep the original as a backup.

One of my Axis, the 6.5CM has the newer style magazine, the other in .223 has the older style. They both seem to work just fine. I will pick up a few extra for each rifle in due course. Savage gets to you on the magazines, lol, the rifles are inexpensive, so they make their money on the magazines!

I think most manufacturers get you on extra magazines :p

Does anyone know if the Fall Remington rebate for the 700's include the ADL's?

Nevermind, The UPC does not show on the website as one of the active rebates. Oh well

Very true. Honestly, outside of long established guns with aftermarket competition that seems to be the case. Glocks, CZ-75 come to mind as far as cheap mags. AR's as far as rifles go obviously. That's part of why I really like the hinged floorplate setup, no need to buy more mags but also easy to empty quickly if need be.

Well my Savage rebate was declined due to can't see the store name on the receipt I'm assuming. Will have to see if I can take a photo of the store label on the box. If not, oh well

FINALLY picked my rifle up. Tried to yesterday but they didn't have 2 managers to process it. Got it home, gave it my obligatory once over and cleaning. Installed my M*CARBO trigger kit and WOW. The original trigger pull probably would have been fine but with the kit its really nice.

Staying up late tonight since I'm switching to midnights, so I'll mount the scope then and post some pictures. It's the old stock style, must have been sitting there for awhile.

So, here's the mostly finished product. The ultimate budget build, haha

Axis in .243 - $54 minus $50 rebate = $4
M*CARBO Trigger Kit - $25
Weaver Multislot Scope Base - $10
Weaver Quadlock Rings - $15
Bushnell Trophy Bone Collector Edition - $75
Butler Creek Scope Covers - $18
MidwayUSA Cheek Rest -$23
Total = $170!

I was worried the rings would be too high, but I actually should have probably gone a smidge higher to clear the front of the base cleanly and to clear the bolt throw. May do that eventually, but for now it clears the base fine where I have it and the bolt handle just BARELY rubs the scope cover occasionally (being an Axis and all, there's a little slop in the bolt so it doesn't rub every time).

Edit: Forgot to add the cheek riser for full disclosure, haha.

Picked up a camo savage axis in 30-06 with scope for 124. and it has a rebate. Not a bad deal for a hunting rifle.
I really wish I could have found a 30-06. I feel like a lot of it is related to where in the country you live. I think I found mostly .243s and 22-250s on closeout around here in Washington because the bigger calibers are preferable here as we have elk and bears, so that leaves a lot of .243s and similar calibers, still on the shelf.

I think .243 in general has been in a bit of a decline overall lately. Nothing wrong with it but sometimes cartridges wax and wane in popularity.

Valid point as well. Perhaps I was wrong in thinking it was just a more popular cartridge back east where whitetail and pigs are the most common big game. I’d consider.243 a marginal cartridge for western hunting outside the realm of deer and antelope. Fills a gap in my safe nicely as my only other centerfires were a .223 and a 7mm rem mag so it’s solid middle ground for me.

Hoping to make it to my folks property in Alabama this winter to get after some whitetail If things with covid slow down and my .243 axis is what I plan to bring along.

I think the 6.5 Creedmoor gaining steam hasn't helped it. They don't fit exactly the same niche, but both (along with .270) represent lower recoil alternatives to .308 that are still enough for deer. In all honesty, if there had been a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle available that would have been my first choice, but I wasn't going to pass on a .243 either obviously. For me, the .243 filled the gap between my .223 and .308 nicely and isn't too much for coyote so it can be a nice loaner if I bring someone hunting for 'yotes.

I got lucky and scored two more Axis xp wood stock rifles a 270 & 30-06. $74 each.
The first one was $184 (243 win).

Should provide hours of fun on the range and field.
I finally got confirmation for the rebates.
One rifle for $134 & 2 rifles for $24 each.
I hope everyone is getting their rebate confirmations!!!

Took the 700 out yesterday and tested it, $199 is amazing deal, you if you got it for $80 well that's just incredible. Very nice rifle with smooth crisp trigger and scope isn't bad either at least for 100 yd shooting. Getting 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inch groups of 5 so far with bulk ammo so far winchester ammo did the best but that was shouldered with a rest , on a sled taking my movement out of the equation it would be much better I think.

Wish I would have got one or two more lol. Wish I could try different grain but finding 223 ammo is not easy right now. Still have to sight it in more shooting a little right of the bulls.

I got mine sighted in at 50 yards a couple weeks ago but ran out of time to move out to 100. If weather permits I’ll go to the range tomorrow after work and see what it does at 100. Were you shooting 55 grain? From what I understand the 1-12 twist doesn’t usually perform well with heavier bullets but I haven’t heard anything definitive on how heavy you can go.
