Now on to the 6.8 Western.

With the advent of these heavy for caliber high SD and BC bullets it fixes all the “wrongs” of a .270 that made the 7MM a “better” round.

Im seriously thinking of slapping a 1 in 8 twist barrel on my .270 Wthby.

Sexy cartridge for long range, a tad better than my 280AI, much more overbore and for the hand loaders among us not yet ready for prime time unless folks are making their own dies and brass. I cannot find 30-06, brass much less something this exotic. Great discussion here:D

With the U.S. Army, at least, flirting with a new 6.8mm (.277) round, expect a lot of interest in that particular caliber over the next few years. My main issue with the round is it is a slightly improved 270 WSM with different rifling.

I have little doubt that it is one highly effective round and I also have very little doubt that most human beings do not shoot well enough to realize its potential. That however has never hurt the sale of the Win Mag.

Really it's more like a .270 WSM Creedmoor.

That's what I called it back in November.

So it's a 270WSM with the creedmoor treatment?

Great minds huh?

With regards to your 284Win though, I'd think you could fit some 160-170gr class VLD's in a 3" mag box. I'd be tempted to stick with the short action if those will actually fit. I get going to a long action if they won't though.

I've looked it over with both and I think I'm going to stick with the long action. But I reserve the right to change my mind. :D I'm getting the "MAP" reamer for a long throat, so the 160+ class bullets seated way out will have a chance. Plus, I'm shooting mostly copper these days, and those are loooong bullets!

So yea, like a .284 Creedmoor for me thank you. :D (I should hurry up and trademark that, no?) :D
