400 Legend

45 Raptor is a Rimless 460 S&W Magnum.
Starline has Brass in stock.

It uses the AR10 Platform and a 308 Bolt.
You do have to modify the Magazines.

I am running 300/gr Hornady XTP Magnums (.452 Dia) at 2,150/fps out of a 16" Barrel.

What would this caliber do that all the other caliber's don't already do??

More power than 350 legend, less recoil than 450 bushmaster. Will also double stack in a mag which 450 will not.

Are there THAT many straight case hunting states?

There are a bunch which means a market of around a million hunters the last time I checked. I don’t even live in a straight wall state but I like straight wall cartridges anyway. My favorite deer rifle is my 444 marlin. I’ve also used my 45/70 and 357 maximum in the past. I just built a 350 legend AR and I have a 45 raptor barrel on order. A 400 will round out the collection nicely.

I made a joke about this when 350 legend came out.

If we did 6.8 spc necked to .40, we could then have 9mm long (350 legend) vs .40 long (this cartridge) vs .45 long (450 bushy) to keep the caliber wars alive

I had always envisioned it being a blown out and lengthened 6.5 grendel case instead of a proprietary case with a rebated 6.8 spc case head, but so be it.

MDWS builds a 45 raptor in an AR15 platform with their oversize bolt and barrel extension. I have one on order.

What???? I must check that out.

I hope everyone takes note of what just went on here.

I had intended to be the "enabler", but Noooooo!!!!! someguy2800 has ME looking into a rabbit hole.

You people are the worst!!!! LOL

Its not on their website but if you go on the MDWS forum there is some talk about it. They call it 45 vrap. I have their 358 yeti.

“I’ll see your 360 Buckhammer and raise you a 400 Legend”

I CAN’T WAIT for the 460 Buckhammer Monster Jammer now!!!!

Im waiting on the 44 Mag lengthen to a 1.8” case. Wildcatters have already done it and call it the 44 Mad Max. It is lower pressure than the 460 S&W so could work in a 336 type action.

It would be a nice big bore evolution to the 360 Buckhammer and wouldn’t share external commonality with the 460 S&W.

This has my interest. Would probably make a dandy 100 yard deer/hog bang-flopper without crazy recoil. I'll be watching the rollout. It fills a vacant space in my collection.

Okay, now this has my attention. I've been playing with the .38-40 and its modern incarnations, along with toying with the idea of resurrecting the .401Powermag. What has stopped me? Bullet selection. This could change all that.

If they had called it 10mm Legend, then I'd be all in! I just can't allow any dirty 40's into my home.

Looks interesting, that may be something to get an AR for
It's not a .40, silly, it's a .400! :p

chamber it in .429, so it can use 444 bullets, run the pressure 55-60k, make it fit in AR mags, should be able to push between 2100-2400 fps depending on bullet weight call it the 429 ultra mag

Sorry, should have placed a sarcasm label on my post.

Interesting. I was toying with some 30-06 brass one day thinking how I could make a lever action friendly 444 with a 1.8” case. A 429 bullet fit in but bulged slightly. It was definitely a possibility though.

Good to see someone ran with that concept but I am sure this has a case length of around 1.7” like the 450 BM so it can be AR friendly.

1.8” I believe, same as the 45 raptor/45 vrap.

I can understand the appeal of .350 Legend, but with this .400 Legend I'd rather just use .450 Bushmaster.

9x19, 40S&W, 45 ACP...

350 Legend, 400 Legend, 450 Bushmaster...

So many similarities, we just need to copy and paste the new names into the old caliber war threads.

Off hand, I know that Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, most of Michigan and southern New York mandate them. Quite a few hunters in those states. There may be other states as well
.
I live and hunt in NY and I am not aware of anywhere in the state that a straight wall case must be used.

Absolutely and we don't need to limit it to the pistol round analogy.
To me the AR15 in 350 Legend is the MSR version of the '94 30/30 with 150gr@2400 or 170gr@2200 we needed the 35 Remington counter part to copy and paste 115 years worth of debate.

Well here we are again I have a high cap 9mm and a 7+1 45 and they're introducing a 40 lol

450 legend’s coming out next week, it uses 450bm barrels, brass and dies. Everyone’s gonna be getting one…:)

I haven’t seen it yet but I also know it’s possible to open the neck of a .223 case to hold a 9mm.

If you hurry you could make it the 355 Maverick ;)
