Hotel gun

I always take my S&W 38 spl. As far as ammo? I don't know because all I can find near me is Winchester fmj. at $45 50 rds. Ridiculous and Aggravating.

Just my humble opinion, but this is some of the worst advice I've ever seen in print. This will turn an innocent citizen into a defendant in a criminal homicide investigation. Get real. YMMv but this guy needs to re-evaluate his sanity. Rod
I don't know. I may kind of agree with him. I'm in a hotel right now. The walls are sheetrock and I don't know if there is anything in them that will stop any ammo. A thug breaks in right now guns blazing, What am I going to do. Tell him to go stand over there so I can shoot back without worry my ammo may go through the wall ? At a time like that all thoughts and reason goes out the window except one. Self preservation.

Well some folks figure it this way, better to be tried by twelve than carried by six. In the situation I covered earlier had that been our room and had some lunatic broken down the door and had it not been NY leaving me less a gun I would have opened fire and worried about the consequences later. So you find yourself in a situation you never dreamed could happen with your life and lives of loved ones on the line. You should worry about motel wall construction or where missed shots may go? Not like there is time to place thought into the problem. You come away alive or you are dead and the lunatic walks away. I choose me. :)

When checking in always enquire as to building construction so you can best decide how to load. May also want to ask about any recent room break-ins by lunatics or any recent homicides or shootings in the building(s).

You cannot hesitate to shoot just because you don't know if there is someone in another room. Remember, it is a GUN FIGHT, so gun safety goes out the window.

That's the quote with my underlining and l'll stand by my statement that it's irresponsible; as it demonstrates a cavalier attitude in the decision of when & how to use deadly force. Don't hesitate to shoot....gun safety goes out the window...that'll play well in a courtroom.

Understanding the environment where we've chosen to carry concealed is critical and it certainly does include other guests in the next room. It's the same as shooting at an attacker in a crowd...you miss or the round over penetrates and you've bought into a felony.

Likewise the choice of sidearm and ammunition can, and will come up in a prosecutorial evaluation of your actions. All the usual questions will be asked: was it necessary to employ deadly force, how was it used, how was the decision made...no matter that it all went down in 5 seconds or less...those questions will come up. And rounds that go astray are forever the shooter's potential legal problem. Be advised...use of a handgun in a hotel, dining room, movie theater, club, or church has monumental implications.

YMMv...be safe out there...Rod

That thought is naive, and the idea is reckless.

Read and heed:

Naive, reckless??
The thug breaks in your hotel Room. Guns blazing. What you going to do?
Say excuse me. Can we go outside? This room has sheet rock walls and I don't know if they will stop my bullet.
I don't care who you are. How much training you have. In a situation like that there is a Good possibility that at least some of your shots could miss your target Completely.
And don't hand me that about checking to see what the walls are made of. I'm in a 15 story hotel right now. If I was to go down and ask if the walls would stop a hand gun round. They would probably think I was some kind of nut and have me carted off by the cops. There's not one person in this hotel that could have any idea.
In that kind of situation Self Preservation kicks in. There's all kinds of possibilities that things could go wrong. If you don't want to face those possibilities. Maybe you should just leave your gun at home. Because you can't avoid them.

Kind of odd question, but does anyone change their gun or load if you are staying in a hotel? Obviously, over penetration could be an issue. Appreciate any insight folks offer.
Bummer. I thought you were going to show us a special factory gun like a Banker’s Special — the Hotel Detective Special or something like that

I would quit buying handguns if only I had a pair of Bankers Specials

Isn’t the basic rule “Walls don’t stop shi-?.”

Sheetrock isn’t much. Now maybe that wallpaper they use in hotels….

Hello, here is something for all to here. I run a hotel matianiance department at a hotel on the beach in north west Florida. We get about 3 to 4 hand guns left in rooms each year. Allways under the pillow. We call the police and hand it over to them. Managements call not mine.

CQ work...Im driving with a couple of choices but the SW 60 is on me and on the night stand. No change of ammo.
