Taurus TX 22 Anyone?

I can't speak for the S&W M&P .22 but my S&W M22A "fluted bull barrel" purchased in Dec 2005 went back to S&W for repair about every 70-80,000 rounds (about 3 years of shooting back then when .22lr was like $0.02 per round) and they fixed it for free paying for shipping both ways three times. The 4th time, just before Hurricane Harvey hit us in 2017 they said they couldn't fix it and sent me the threaded Bull barrel Victory that I now have for "free", cost me $20 for the transfer :)

Good as the M22A was for me, the Victory is better!

S&W for sure has the best warranty out there. The victory is an amazing 22, I love how easy disassembly is, and the ability to swap out any parts to upgrade. They work flawlessly.

A friend of mine just bought one and he asked if he could come up to my house and shoot it . We both shot it that day and I liked it , 0 failures . I know this is he said , I have another friend that I consider my best friend . He had a Taurus .22 or .22 magnum revolver . With very few rounds through it . It quit firing one day . He sent it to Taurus and they replaced the gun in a timely manner . The only thing that I didn’t like was his model had been discontinued . It had a 5” barrel and the replacement model had a 3” barrel . I told him he should of asked them if they would have put his 5” barrel on the new gun . He didn’t think to ask them that and I don’t know if they would have done it . But I thought their CS was good , but maybe it doesn’t say good about their products quality .

Give them a gun you wanted, they give you a different gun with no other choices. Sounds bunko to me.

I don’t think so if they don’t make that model anymore . They told him in advance . He could have excepted the replacement or got his broken gun back . Like I said , I would have asked if they could have swapped barrels .

Or they could fix the gun! Novel concept except for Taurus. They do have another option, give you half of what you paid for the gun (literally their offer on the pt145 that they recalled).

A lifetime warranty is a joke with Taurus, you expect a comparable gun if the one they can't fix is discontinued, in a 22 a 3 vs 5 inch barrel changes alot.

I was tired of losing money on every Taurus, so ditched them. Best move ever.

Parts might not be available on a discontinued model . I am sure If they could fix it with a $20 dollar part they would rather have done that than replace the gun .

I briefly looked at the TX22 but was concerned about numerous reports of the slide end breaking off on them where the RSA is held in as that area is very thin aluminum, See You Tube for multiple such reports. This normally does not happen until at least a few thousand round are fired through it and using high pressure 22LR rounds like Viper and Stingers can also contribute to that. Others have reportred difficulty getting small parts from Taurus like extractor and firing pin and told to ship the whole pistol back on their dime instead and also long waits for service. I don't know if that is still the case but probably could find out at Taurus forum.

If I was looking for a full size combat style 22 pistol that included threaded barrel, I would look at the new FN 502, which is also ready for a red dot, though right now they are harder to find and more expensive. Walther also makes PPQ 22 with threaded barrel I believe. However I personally have a strong preference for Browning Buckmark (which my wife used to start shooting recently) or Ruger Mark series but I can understand sometimes we just want to shoot a combat style 22 LR pistol too.

2 XTX22.jpg I have two TX22's and have not had a problem with either. I'm still waiting for my suppressor, but others say they love suppressor equipped TX22's. Alas, they are not inexpensive any longer. I have a lot of .22 handguns and the TX22 is among my top 5.

Taurus has tremendously more complaints against them. They stole from me, and were never able to fix any of the issues I had with them. A garbage company. No confidence in any warranty they have.
I feel the same way about Beretta

Check the bbb. It's not just me. I guess I care about gun owners having something worth what they spend their hard earned money on.
BOTH of my TX22s have paid for themselves in the amount of fun and total lack of issues I’ve had with both. The OP asked people’s opinion on the TX22, not Taurus’ suspect CS issues. But you go ahead and be That Guy.

Glad for you, honestly, cause heavens help you if you ever needed Taurus to service them. In this thread alone, a small sample yes, but in this thread are listed problems with this gun. Another thread concurrently on the g3 falling apart also sounds about right for a Taurus. Easy to disassemble I guess?

Another positive i have with the tx22 is that it really doesn't care about ammo. Lot of Stryker 22's recommend minimags to function. My tx22 works with some 10 year old blazers, the ole red box lightning and even automatch. I honestly haven't even ran minimags. I thought somewhere someone said stingers may be detrimental. I found that funny, I maybe have 100 rounds of them anyway compared to my other supply.

What kind of problems did your TX22 have?

Guess you missed the part I would never own one, never recommend one, and sure wouldn't advise anyone to waste their money on a garbage company. Enjoy your Taurus.

Just the kind of a review I would expect from someone with no experience. It never ceases to amaze me how "Expert" people love to give opinions on something they know nothing about. I would never suggest a Kimber to anyone. I saw two of them jam once. I am now an expert on Kimber's.

I have both the regular model and the target model, no issues with either. About 4500-5000 rounds through the original and still breaking the target one in (400-500 rounds). Most of the shots have been suppressed so it does make a good host for a muffler in my opinion. I will say that I prefer my Ruger Mark IV lite better all around.

Maybe add a picture with higher resolution than 8 bit to see what those guns are. it's 2022, maybe figure your camera phone thingy.

I never said I was an expert. I've had 3 Taurus guns that failed bad, where Taurus couldn't take care of it. Many trips back to the factory with no fix, 3 times I lost money, not a great track record. So that's my experience. The jams you speak of may have been the 85 with a bad forcing cone they never fixed, not the kimbers you speak of (I'd also never recommend a kimber).

But hey, love your Taurus and you do you. Just don't be disrespectful of others opinions, especially when it's coming from a place to help others not run into problems. Taurus earned their rep, they suck. I'll go out of my way every time to let people know.

I have a TX-22. Purchased it awhile back. It has run pretty well...and has a really nice trigger. Really good accuracy. Later on, I started seeing reports about the bores...and I looked at mine and appeared to have the issue. Never have sent it back to Taurus for a replacement. I also heard/saw the reports on the frames cracking at the end. Both were concerning to me.

However, a short while back, I ended up getting the competition upper [paid a bit too much for it, I'm embarrassed to say]. With this upper/barrel assembly on it, the TX-22 no longer worries me. It has more weight [obviously], has a good bore,...has a lot more metal at the front of the slide that won't break. And my niece really likes shooting it. I think she likes the micro red dot set up over iron sights [but she'll still shoot both types as she learns].

So...whether or not it will last, I feel like I have a good pistol. Will it live as long as my Mark II has? Nope. My Mark II [if both shot equally as much] will outlive the Taurus, I'm sure [no data on that, just an opinion]. Still glad to have it!

That is good info, thanks for posting that.

You claim that all the Taurus gun's are junk, then say you have no real experience with them. My reply wasn't meant as an insult, just a comment on people with no experience with the subject love to give advice. The picture is old, but what difference does that make? The only gun in the picture that I no longer have if the revolver in .17HRM which I gifted to a Nephew, the others I still have and shoot. Would I have bought three new Taurus gun's if they were junk? You can see I buy relatively expensive gun's so it's not like I can't afford it. I think the TX22 was the gun Glock hoped the G44 would be and failed badly at. I always welcome considered opinions which by your own admission yours aren't.

I’ve seen quite a few people who have bought TX22s that are super accurate and then they check their barrel and think they see chattering and now it’s a disaster. If it’s shooting accurately shoot the snot out of it. If you’re worried about the front of the slide get Lakeline’s latest recoil rod, problem solved. If it eventually breaks or becomes unshootable send it back to Taurus they’ll fix it, despite what you’ve read in this thread. In fact, from what I understand Taurus are turning repairs round pretty quickly. You’ve solved that and bought the Comp upper which you will love. I have several thousand through my Competition and at least 4000 through my standard TX22.

Honestly, I don't even put the regular slide/barrel on anymore. I pretty much always use the competition upper now. But I might put it on and shoot out that snot, then have Taurus replace it. :)

I like the way you think!

My first TX has at least 15k rounds through it, the second about 2k. The OEM spring assembly scratched the slide up on the muzzle end. It took the finish off, but hasn't weakened the metal. It has a Lakelike RSA installed now, seems like an improvement over the OEM and helps prevent the scratching. The Competition upper is definitely the most durable.

Have had a couple 502s, accurate guns, but the trigger reset is long, and I have concerns about long term durability. Both have finish loss from the slide stop levers and even a little peening. It's a cheap alloy material slide, but the frame seems good. I still prefer my TX w/ the competition upper in the long run, and my G44.
