Concealed Carry Gun Care

I use Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax for the exterior of my gun's slide. Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax is fairly oily, it also is PH neutral and has no abrasives in it. I called the company to see if the wax is OK for gun finishes and the customer service rep told me that they get a lot of calls from gun owners and he told me Gold Class Carnauba Plus Paste Wax is PH neutral, has no abrasives in it, and is perfectly safe for gun finishes.

My EDC, a revolver, usually pocket carried, goes to the range at least once a month so nothing extra beyond a wipe down if necessary.

I’ve carried 1.0 M&P compacts (.40 and .45) in south Florida for the past year and a half. I use a minimalist holster IWB and never have had any problems with rust. I clean and oil every couple of weeks. Don’t overthink it.
What, "overthinking" things on THR when it comes to carry guns??? Naw, never happens. ;):D

Don't know if this is practical for you, but you might visit the local Napa or AutoZone and pick up a tub of carnauba wax. (Not the stuff that 'cleans as it shines'... that's abrasive.) I read somewhere, that's how museum curators keep rust off ancient armor, etc.

Well, they usually use Renaissance Wax, which is essentially the same.

Glocks or Kahr K9

MONTHLY- (or sooner if heavy range shooting)
Field strip.
Blow out lint/ dirt w/ airgun or just wipe out
Quick shot of WD-40 or Rem oil
I'll swab the bore once w/ jag.

YEARLY
Detailed disassembly and cleaning.
Remove copper fouling if present.

I know I could do better, but I know many that do a helluva lot worse and get by.

An acquaintance cuts grass in town and CCs all day every day....I checked out his piece and it was in such bad shape it didn't function.. and It was a brand new Ruger LCR 380 (I think the name is correct) he said he bought it new only last summer, and has fired a box through it when new. He pocket carries it, and when I cleared it and field stripped it (which took a hell of a lot of effort) it was packed full of crud...powdered grass clippings, dirt, etc.
The crud allowed for the formation of some surface rust, but not enough to pit. I was able to get it back to working order with about an hour of effort.....

EDCs need to be cleaned monthly at minimum, even if not removed from the holster once..it's really amazing how must dust and dirt builds up...
If you pocket carry, or are in dirty environment, I'd say 2 weeks.

Check it every so often and you will get a feel for how dirty it gets over time. Then set your maintenance interval to make sure it never gets dirtier than you are willing to tolerate.
