I know I could do better, but I know many that do a helluva lot worse and get by.
An acquaintance cuts grass in town and CCs all day every day....I checked out his piece and it was in such bad shape it didn't function.. and It was a brand new Ruger LCR 380 (I think the name is correct) he said he bought it new only last summer, and has fired a box through it when new. He pocket carries it, and when I cleared it and field stripped it (which took a hell of a lot of effort) it was packed full of crud...powdered grass clippings, dirt, etc.
The crud allowed for the formation of some surface rust, but not enough to pit. I was able to get it back to working order with about an hour of effort.....
EDCs need to be cleaned monthly at minimum, even if not removed from the holster once..it's really amazing how must dust and dirt builds up...
If you pocket carry, or are in dirty environment, I'd say 2 weeks.
