If you had to choose 1 handgun, what would it be?

If you could only own one handgun, what caliber would it be?

1 gun

If I could have only one handgun, and since I live in the city, I would choose the 45 ACP as it is accurate, reliable, concealable, and has greater capacity than the 357. Put me in a wilderness situation and I would take a 357 in 5 or 6 in barrel length.
Hey, how about making it which 2 handguns would you select! For me a much easier choice!

Well as it stands, .357 is clearly leading wheelie guns and the .45 is clearly leading the autoloaders. Makarov has yet to get a single vote, wonder why ;), everything else is basically getting a vote or two :) what I do find interesting is people dont seem to find the .40 as attractive as I thought they would have. 9mm is doing ok in this poll. Most interesting.

I chose the 9x19 based just on ammo cost and availability and my Sig 226 is dead reliable. That said, my Dan Wesson and 1911's are more fun to shoot.

If I could only have one woman for the rest of my life, what kind of woman would that be?

Hmmmmmmm..........

IMHO, the .40 is a bit too snappy for my taste. For example, a standard 40 180 grains shot in a full size USP, for me, seems to kick more than a 45ACP 185gr GD at the same velocity in a Kimber. Go figure.

BTW, I picked 357magnum. It goes great with my Marlin '94. :D

45 acp

i carry a ruger p345 as my duty weapon and have owned a few 9mm back in the days but will never carry one again its a 45 from now on

I go with the .357 simply because it has a nice balance of power and "shootability" for me, is commonly available, has a variety of different loads if your a reloader, and is sufficient in both defense and hunting (within reason). Other rounds likely fulfill these qualities for different folks, but I just happen to like the .357 best.

I'd go with a 9mm Parabellum.

I would have to go with a Glock 17, 9mm Parabellum, then a .40 cal. Personal choice, of course.

Like jeremywills I am very surprised that the 40 doesn't seem to be more popular.

I'm not so surprised, I'm only surprised that the 9mm isn't doing even better.

Basically two different questions were asked that could result in different answers. Both "what one handgun" and "what one caliber" were the basic questions. Not what is your favorite or most used gun, or caliber.

In my case, .41mag is my current favorite caliber, and .40S&W may be my favorite defensive auto caliber, but neither is a good choice for one gun/caliber to do everything. If picking an auto caliber 9mm is just more versatile (good for defense, cheap for practice) and .45ACP is the classic 1911 chambering (based on platform and not caliber the 1911 would be my auto choice). In revolvers, there just is no better choice for the one platform question than a nice 3" K-frame which basically means a gun chambered for either .38spl/.38+P or .357mag (I'd pick the mag since it can also fire .38s). Anyway, that is why my two favorite calibers don't make the list. I'm sure others have other thought processes that bring them to their choices and they don't necessarily match what is their favorite or most used.

.357mag if I chose a revolver or 10mm if I wanted a semi-auto.

Luckily, I don't have to choose and can have a few of everything.:neener:

I had to go with the .45 but the .357 would probobly be a better choice as you could have a good high power round as well as the .38 special fpr practice. but I just love the .45acp
