From the Texas Department of Public Safety, Concealed Handgun Section, here's the specifications on the 30.06 sign.
The term “30.06 sign†is a reference to Section 30.06 of the Texas Penal Code,
which describes the sign that must be posted on a property where handguns are to be prohibited by the property owner...

PROHIBITING HANDGUNS IN A BUSINESS OR OTHER ENTITY

In order to provide notice that entry on property by a license holder with a concealed handgun is forbidden, Penal Code Section 30.06(c)(3)(A) requires that a written communication contain the following language:

"PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN."

"CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO."

Download language

Penal Code Section 30.06(c)(3)(B) further states that a sign must meet the following requirements:

includes the language described by Paragraph (A) in both English and Spanish;

appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height; and

is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.

A 30.06 is a sign reading

"Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person Licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun".
if you carry into that establishment, you can be charged with criminal Trespass (Class A Misdomeaner)

We Used to have Taco Bueno's Very good for Chain Tex Mex but they all closed said they couldn't make any money???
every one I ever went into was packed and the average I spent was $15-20
somebody was making some money

Taco Bueno is still alive and kicking in and around DFW.

Still recommend almost any Taqueria.

"Tres lengua tacos con tortillas de maize y aguacate...y dos Shiners."

well, let's qualify Taco Bueno being alive and well in DFW. I've seen 3 in the last 2 weeks that closed, mostly in 'questionable' neighborhoods. They have spent a lot of money on refurbs and new, nice locations, so it could be an offset philosophy. For fast burritos, though, you can't hardly beat it- and real avocados in the guacamole.

Regards,
Rabbit.

In San Antonio, Chachos on IH10 and Callahan road is the best
fast and by far the best fast Tex Mex.

The Bexar County Health Department might beg to differ!

As with most mexican food restaurants, the whole secret lies in knowing what to order. With the chains, you also need to pick one that is well-run – some of the Taco Cabanas are toilet bowls. However, find a good one, stick to the Chicken Flameante, and you'll do fine...

Both of the Taco Cabanas in Alb. NM are severe health hazards. If you need to loose 5 pounds in a hurry eat at one and they will empty you right out, the food poisoning way.
There is so many better mexican places, I am amazed they are still open. Maybe we have a lot of people immune to amebic dysentery :barf: :barf: :barf:

El Pocito, the Hole In The Wall, in old downtown McAllen. Great food and the roaches are the size of chihuahua's but you'll be the only guarro in the place.

Man, you guys are killing me. I can't think of a single, close TexMex place worth a *#$$# around here. :(

Going to have to do Chinese or something tonight. I'm not cooking.

AS far as the signs go, I look at it this way. Concealed is Concealed. Stay that way, no trouble comes your way.

Time to renew this thread!!!

Noticed this thread from a few years ago, and thought I'd mention that Taco Cabana is still like that - newest version is a 30.06 sign that may or may not be legal (something for lawyers to argue about, I guess), and an owner / manager who assured me that "since we serve alcohol we HAVE to ban guns" (that's wrong, btw).:banghead:

Anyway, newcomers to THR since '03, if you're in Taco Cabana service areas, you should know that they do not want your guns, even though they assured my husband that they DO want your business. HAH!!:neener:

springmom, who hasn't gotten involved in a boycott in YEARS

Yes Cratz, Pancho's is still kicking.

Oh God. They may be kicking but you won't be if you eat there.

The sickest I've ever been in my life was after an evening of "rasing the flag".

I prayed for death before whatever that was left my body......

As for Taco Cabana, the one near me has a 30.06 posted, not that I'd eat in the place anymore anyway. I did stop there for some cheap margaritas a while back (not carrying, and not the one driving). It was not a clean place and I wasn't planning on going back.

Is Chachos the place where you can get a MOUNTAIN of nachos, buried under 5 cows worth of cheese, and smothered in beans? I've seen 1-2 guys demolish that plate and am always suprised EMS doesn't show up afterwards!

I have never seen a completely compliant 30.06 business down here. Most are the 8.5X11 "unlicensed carry" ones; some not also in Spanish, or not in big enough letters.

I think the mall in Arlington was the closest to being compliant, but since they don't have EVERY door posted, I ignore those signs too, and go in the unmarked doors.

I was at Taco Cabana in Lewisville

late last week, and saw the "letter" on Tacao Cabana letterhead.

Regardless of the degree of legality of the posting, it tells me a lot about the business. And no, it was not in reference to "unlicensed", it was in regard to "concealed" weapons.

When I noticed it I wrote down the number and vowed to call. Thanks for the reminder, now I will probably write, too.

The Taco Cabana in Austin near Fry's (Mopac & Parmer) had 2 non-compliant 30.06 signs on its doors as of a couple of months ago. Both of the side doors were posted, but if you came in the doors off the patio they were not posted. The signs on the other doors weren't compliant either ... they seemed to have the right wording, but since both the english and spanish versions were printed on a single 8.5x11 sheet of paper, the letters were far smaller than the 1" minimum height. Don't know if they've corrected that ... haven't been back since then.

It's all about Rights

They have the right to refuse having weapons on their property. You have the right to not give them your business. Let them exercise their rights and you should exercise your rights.

Where did you see a sign at the Arlington Mall? I've never seen one there at all.

This thread started almost 3 years ago, so some things may have changed????

Taco Cabana is iffy at best on their food.

I was in one just a few days ago (it was a desperate Taco Attack late at night during an all night work session -- we took a chance!:D ).

The only signs they were sporting were the ones that they are required to post as a business selling alchohol (beer) and not a 51% site. These are the signs that indicate that it is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in jail for the UNLICENSED carrying of a weapon on the premises. This does not apply to you as a CHL holder.

This is the same sign on liquor stores, places like Applebees, Chili's, etc, and is, I believe, required by law. I have not yet seen a 30.06 sign or even one of the silly 'circle crossed out gun icon' signs at a Taco Cabana.

I've been to a Taco Cabana exactly 3x in the last 8 years. I'd much rather spend my pesos with the nice, friendly Hispanic family-owned mamacita-papacita place down the road from me; it's less expensive, it was made fresh- sometimes at my table, they know me by name, as I do them; the quality is always there.

Here Here!!

I'm of the belief that no ethnic food should ever be prepared by a chain.

I put it rather simply for those who don't want my gun but say they'd still like my business.

"My gun and my money travel together. One won't go where the other isn't welcome."

Original Location At San Pedro And Hildebrand

Use to swing by there 30 years ago around 2AM and the chow was GREAT. Now-a-days I'll settle for a La Fogata Margarita and the mom and pop at Walzem and Austin Highway!

Anti Gun? Won't get my dough.

Take Care

Old thread - it has been mentioned elsewhere that stores are sprouting noncompliant 30.06 signs. 1604 and Bandera has one.

I have called the service number to no avail - so they lost my business.
