Great Choice

...

Congrats on the New P229 9mm, as I LOVE my 229R Carry with the CT grips.

Just such a forgiving gun to shoot and reacquire targets at speed, not to mention the long shots using the laser, at speed as well. Oh, and of course, Sigs Night Sights GLOW all night long..

Also, congrats on the other "urge" to purchase as well, as I firmly believe in:

1BLINDREF,
My last two additions were S&W revolvers (Those things are almost as addictive as Sigs. I'm seriously thinking about picking a Grade 1 P6. There is a dealer nearby that gets them in occasionally. If he gets any more in that will probably be the next addition to the family picture. :)

I know what you mean about S&W wheelies - here is my S&W family

My next Sig will probably be a P225. I don't like the importers stamp and the cut hammer on the P6s so I've been looking for the right P225. The clean ones can be had for about $450 - $500.
Here are my Sigs

Thanks guys - I did.
I'm not ready to add another Sig right now. I think I'll probably buy a RRA CAR-15 next. I want to make sure I get one before any possible AWBs. I shot the Sig 556, but I didn't like the way it balanced. It felt very front heavy to me. I really liked the Rock River that I shot much better any I can buy some ammo with the money I save over the 556.

Hey 1BLINDREF,

Do you think that 556 would be better with a 550/551 series type folder on it? I cant stand those silly sliders and have seen some who have put the other stocks on them. I really like the 551's and wish I'd got one when you could. I see the 556 possibly being the only alternative right now, if they offer the different furniture. If they were smart, they would, or better yet, open a plant here and make the real thing. :)

I have to take back my support of 1Blindref..lol

Sorry 1Br, but after seeing both your group shots of all your pistols, AND, even though you live my kind of style, in that

I know that a Tree in the Forrest has been felled for all those wood grips..

SAD indeed.. :neener:

Damn fine collection, to ya, once again .. ;)

OK, big question: I see with some of your Sigs, with wood grips, that if I'm seeing the P220, with "my grips" I want, that either you have the mag out, OR, you found a mag for it that fits flush to the bottom, and if so, where can I get this type magazine/s for my P220, and do they come with just metal bottoms, or can one get a thin (thinner than the factory mags black/plastic bottoms) black bottom as well in an after-market or from Sig themselves.

The reason I ask is; with my factory mags, with the original plastic grips, which went down further than the wood ones, they almost covered the rather, thick black plastic bottoms of the factory mags, making it look like the end of the grip, as opposed to; with the wood grips on, being shorter, the thick black-plastic bottom of the factory mags kinda looks like I'm using a higher-capacity round mag.. Mind you, not really that bad looking but, if I can get thinner, flush like mags, I would like to buy some for the "option-look", least they hold 8 rounds as well.

Much thanks again, for any help or directions you may give me..

Another question to all my Sig Brothers in Arms

...

I have seen, and read, one complaint in this HR forum in regards to the new 1911 Revolution Carry Nitron model 45. I PM'd the guy with a nice question of: "Can you tell me what problem/s you are having with your Sig Revolution Carry Nitron?, because I think, highly, that I want to get on as well, but would appreciate your input, pro's and con's, of the, your gun.. Thanks, LS"

That was 6 days ago, and NO reply..

Same deal over in the Beretta forum, under a discussion of 1911's, I have read several owners of Colts (can you imagine that.. lol) with 2nd hand repeats of others they say have had many problems with feeding problems, etc, etc, of the full size Revolution Nitron model and the Carry model of it, as well.. but no sources to link and read given.

I know many of you have access to the Sig forum, which I do not, as I got booted after my first post, but that's ok, their loss, my gain here among you.

Appreciate any known facts of the pro's and con's of the 1911 Revolution Carry Nitron model, or its bigger brother, full size Revolution Nitron model.

Thanks all,

LS

I think you might be right. That might balance the gun better. The 556 just didn't feal right to me. I like the RRA much better -and it costs mcuh less.

Thanks - I'm kinda proud of it. I have alot of swet tied up in it as I bought most of my guns with money that I earned refereeing soccer games. I'm up to almost 1000 games. Sigs and Smiths are my favorites. I have a few Colts and Berettas, and a pre-ban CZ75 that is probably one of my most accurate guns.
As far as the mags go, the old style P220 7 round mags have a flat metal bottom. The new style P220 8 round mags have the black plastic block bottom on them. I tried swaping the mags in my old P220 and the new P220 Carry SAS and they fit perfectly. I'm sure that they would feed perfectly aslo, but try them at the range before you carry with them. I took a picture of the mags next to each other. The old 7 rounder is on the left, Sorry the picture is so bad, but you should be able to see the difference.

I gotta ask - what did you post??

Well, I'm joining this club kinda late, but I just did a search on "Sig nickel" and up popped this thread!

My first SIG was a P239/.40; a nice little pistol that gave me no troubles, it was just a touch small for my hand. Three years ago I picked up a black, Siglite-sighted CPO P228 that delivered 1600 flawless rounds for me until its recoil spring finally pooped-out a couple of weeks ago. Not only did I pick up a new spring, but I picked up a new (to me) second P228, this one a two-tone with nickel slide, West German markings, and Siglite sights.

If I can just step on into the 21st century I'll post pics of both of these beauties!

I do have some questions...

1. Are there any special maintenance needs or concerns with the matte nickel finish of the slide?

2. Even though the West German markings would seem to imply this gun has some age on it, it appears to have been very lightly-used...it's solid, tight, and delivered a flawless performance it's inaugural range trip. Any ideas on a manufacture date for this gun...serial number range is B139xxx. Pistol came in the old-style, smaller gray box and was complete with owner's manual in its plastic sleeve, a test-fired target from the factory, and two 13-round "zipperback" mags (one also with the nickel finish).

Thank you!

Price check

The local pawn shop has a Sig Pro-9mm in exc. condition with box, papers, etc.
Asking $475.

I know the Pro's go for less but is this a fair deal?

Welcome! Older Sigs have a date code stamped on the front of the slide. Its on the underside at the rounded part of it. They use letters for years.
A = 0
B = 1
C = 2
D = 3
E = 4
F = 5
G = 6
H = 7
J = 8
K = 9
They skip "I" because it looks too much like a 1, so if for example the code is stamped "KC", your gun would have been manufactured in 92. The serial number on my P228 is B259xxx and it has a KG code stamped on it which makes it a 1996. Hope this helps!
Good luck with your 228s :D

Marshall-
As far as the Sig Pro goes, $475 sounds a little high for a used one. You can get a CPO "P" series for about $500.00

In the spirit of full disclosure...I'm a long time Glockofile generally carrying a G23 after carrying a G22 for work for years, so I an not easily converted. I found a mint P220 that had been recently traded, a replacement for my old Euro Browning/Sig 45 that I have always lamented trading many years ago .I carry my new P220 in a Blackhawk snap-off leather holster. It fits my hand, I have a natural point of aim with it, and it seems to have less felt recoil then any other 45 auto I own. In short I love it and don't leave the house without it. With the exception of the P225 it is the only SIG pistol I have ever liked...but ironically it's the one I always carry now. My only concern is making sure I de-cock when reholster. Even my wife loves the pistol. She wants a P225 to replace her 3913 and M19 Smiths that she now carries.

Needful Things

Hello Again, all!

+1 Blindref on Marshall's question. Marshall, I bought my Pro 2340 at a gunshow from a shop brand new for 415 with tax. You should be looking at the 430 range for a used one, non CPO.

Now I have a favor to ask, I'm getting ready to replace my 229 and my 220. It's been a long time coming and I thought I was there a month ago, but a car wreck later and a few bills and well it may finally be here. I'm going to go with a used 220 fullsize and the 229 Elite in .357Sig. I may have some money left over and I was thinking a .22 auto. I like my Single Action Six and my Rossi .22 great. So here's my favor, convince me that I need to buy a Sig Trailslide... I've never shot one, I've never even held one. So talk me into it. Please?

1BlindRef, thank you for this info, excellent stuff! Make my latest SIG a 1991 model!

LS-
I tried to PM you but it wouldn't let me. Thanks for the response - great story. I'm with you on some of the posters on the Sig Forum. THR people are generally nicer.

Glad I could help. So - B139xxx is a 1991 and B259xxx is a 1996. Looks like Sig made a few P228s during that 5 year period :rolleyes:
Have fun with your P228.

If you want a .22 Sig, the Trailside is much less problematic then the Mosquito appears to be. I never had a Mosquito, but I love my Trailside. I've only read about peoples bad experiences with their Mosquitos. I don't see many Trailsides for sale, so you might have a hard time finding one. Good luck with your quest.

aftrer awhile a real nice sig just cries to be customized.
I'm with you on that. I'm going to send my P228 to CCR for a reverse TT job in the next couple of months. I've seen some of the work that CCR does and I think my P228 deserves it ;)
What kind of rear sight is on your 220? I've never seen a front strap of a Sig with those dimples. Is that factory???

all the exterior metal work was done by Ned Christiansen (a familar name to the 1911 crowd) over at Michiguns

www.m-guns.com

the treatment on the frontstrap is Conamyds, which i consider a vast improvement over checkering

DSC_0143.gif

the rear sight is made from a block of metal. all i told him was that i wanted a snag-free rear sight that didn't leave gaps between the bottom of the sight body and the domed top of the sig's slide

It's the "Buddy List" issue for PM's

...

First, 9m, that Sig 220 looks like a fine piece of art of Sig history, in that, if it could talk, I could imagine the stories it would tell. And the grips almost look like Grey Ghost Grips in 2 of the shots. Very nicely customized, and I bet she loves it.

And, 1BR

I know what the problem is, as when I tried to send you the PM, I was not allowed, as the PM's "default" is only send and receive from those on your "Buddy List". So next time, when you have a PM rdy to go and it doesn't go, just look, go down to the bottom of the page some, and you'll see the box checked with Buddy's only, and then you'll see an unchecked box that says, send and receive from... hmmm forget exactly, but something like send/recieve from non-buddies as well, and put a chk in that box. Then when you hit submit reply, it sends.

Next time.. lol

So I recently decided to go with the P239 over the Springfield EMP for use as my carry gun. I figured it has the same DA/SA trigger system as the rest of my Sigs, costs a heck of a lot less (I can buy a holster and ammo with the difference), they've been established to be reliable weapons, and it'll be easier to find accessories/mags for it. That and the fact that I owned one in the past, so I already know what I'm getting myself into. It should show up one day this week.

Never thought it would happen (mostly due to budget) but I joined the SIG club yesterday with a consignment P229 chambered for 9mm. All kinds of firsts. First SIG, first 9mm (that wasn't issued to me).

Came with 3 magazines and signs of riding in a holster a lot such as some wear in the (nitron?) finish on the slide.

Swabbed it down a bit and made sure it had at least some lube and took it to the range. Two FTE's right off the bat! Considering I paid more for this used gun than I've paid for almost any of my NEW guns I was having a fit. Took it out to the vehicle, field stripped it and BLASTED it with Breakfree then let it drip-dry for a while (the drain off was UGLY) and wiped it down. Back in to shoot some more and it performed beautifully for the next 150 rounds.

So when I got back home I detail stripped the slide... UGH!!! No wonder it was giving me FTE. There was so much CRAP in behind the extractor that it never slid all the way back to "closed" to grab the shell. Hell I'm surprised it would extract at all as it was barely grabbing the edge of the shell. This encouraged me to drift out the pin and pull the firing pin and drop safety... DOUBLE UGH! There was so much sludge in there I couldn't believe that the pin even moved! Needless to say it's all "like new from factory" clean now! :)

Actually that impressed me in the end. If this gun will contiue to operate when it's that badly gunked up internally then I have no doubt it'll be super reliable given the way I do maintenance on my firearms.

Oh by the way, is a P229 okay with +P or +P+ ammo?
