Open your nightstand and take a picture

I used to keep a Bersa Thunder .380(loaded mag but not in the gun) in my nightstand drawer in a locked case with the key hidden in my alarm clock until the day that I walked into the bedroom to see my 3 year old daughter playing with it. Yup, my 3 year old found the key, put 2 and 2 together and unlocked the lock and got the bersa out. Luckily the mag wasn't in there and it was empty. Now I settle for the GLock 23 in the tip top of the bedroom closet all locked up with the key hidden at an equal heighth. And I hid it when none of my kids were home. I think she must have seen me put the key in the alarm clock.

Never under estimate a little one. They are a whole lot smarter than we think. And their little eyes are watching all of the time.

Key should be around your neck, not hidden someplace. The last thing you want to do when every second counts is have to look for a key that could have fallen from its hiding place and ended up anywhere.

That also keeps little fingers from finding it and putting natural curiosity to work. When my son was that age all he wanted to do was explore. He climbed everything. Seriously, I had every bookcase, and even the TV and refrigerator bolted to the walls so he didn't accidentally pull them down on himself climbing if I had to run to the bathroom or some such and leave him alone for thirty seconds.

Children are like Kipling's mongoose. "Run and find out" is the motto of the mongoose family.

lol....

On top of my Family Guy drawers sits my carry piece, the Cougar 9mm.

And in the lower right, you can see my dog's drinking glass. :D

I bolted a cheapo "safe" to the side of my nightstand which holds a Sig P226 (.40) with Laser Grips. I wear the key (on the bed) around my neck at night and either keep it on all day or hide it really well before I leave the house in the morning. The Sig goes with me when I leave, and the AK mags take it's place.

This guy is always near by too.

That's the first time I've posted my own photos on THR. That was fun!

Balrog54, If you're doing your reading it looks like you've got the protection thing covered on both ends.

You should be ashamed

MDeViney, that thing is dangerous......it has a bayonet lug!

Yeah...right!

I have noted that many of us have firearms & hunting magazines beside our beds. <<Leans right>> Yeap...a whoooole pile of firearms & hunting magazines. :D

I hope you guys are not sound sleepers, as I would hate to think a criminal who broke into your home during the night would find your weapons on obvious display for use against you.

I am personally of the opinion a weapon close it hand is not a bad idea, but it should be obvious only to you where it is.

Unlike many people, I have locks that can only be opened from the inside. Basically, pick all the locks you want, you're going to have to make noise by either smashing a window or (trying) kicking the door in.

That's why I have a GunVault. But if he looked into my drawer to find a weapon I guess he could strangle me with a condom.

I don't have a nightstand drawer but on top of my nightstand is a xd-45 and a spare mag. Next to it I have a surefire 6p and leaning on the wall is a sub-2000 with 50 rounds on/in it.

Finally, as a last resort(my own laziness in not putting it away), I've got a 22" machete leaning up against the wall by the dresser.
