Does anyone own this gun if so opinions?

The gun shops here price it new at 300 new is that about right?

$300 if a fair price for a NIB 605.

I have a 3" model that I have found it to be accurate and reliable. It has been my go to CCW. The DA trigger is heavy and takes some practice to master, but it seems to smooth out as it wears in.

The first thing I did with it is to replace the skinny rubber grips with 3 groove wood combat grips. That made it much more comfortable to shoot full mag loads.

I own two 605's and I feel they are great revolvers.

$300 is what I paid for each of mine, so yes that is the going price.

I agree with DMZ that if you do purchase one, change out your grips. There is nothing wrong with the factory grips, but they don't have much comfort when shooting full mag loads.

I have one that I bought used this summer. It came with the larger combat grips. I haven't tried any other grips but with those it is surprisingly easy to shoot magnum loads. It shoots a couple inches low at 10yds with .38spl and right to POA with 158gr mag loads. The muzzle blast is unpleasant with the 125 gr mag loads and the recoil gets uncomfortable with either mag load after about a box for me. I did have to do a little cleaning on the center pin after the first couple hundred rounds because it got stuck in and the gun could not fire. It has not done that since I cleaned it and polished it a little. It conceals very well for me in a pocket or IWB holster.

I bought one of these about a year ago. I had it out to the range three times and then I had a mechanical failure. I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed yet.

My observations regarding the performance of the gun are as follows:

1) Accuracy was good for something with a short barrel. I never had any issues hitting center of mass on a silhouette target at 7 yards.

2) Recoil with magnum loads was manageable. After about 40 rounds in a row I was ready for a break.

3) Size is awesome. Easy to conceal.

Despite the mechanical issues I've had I am pleased with the gun. I own other Taurus revolvers and this is the first time I've ever had a problem. If I had to do it all over again I would still make the purchase. Just put a few hundred rounds down range to make sure the gun is going to work for you.

Just bought one. Stainless version for $329. We'll see how she shoots this weekend, but locks up like a bank vault and has an unexpectedly excellent trigger both DA and SA.

If it takes to 400 or so mixed .38's and .357's this weekend it may earn a Crimson Trace grip and Mika pocket holster (as well as a home in my pocket). I am going to give it a test diet of everything from 148 grain mid range wadcutters to 200 grain hardcast solids.

Seems as well made as any J frame I've seen lately. I like the cylinder crane lockup point feature as well.

I shoot and conceal carry a Titanium 605 .357MAG Snub. I shoot some .357 loads (125gr Gold Dot HP or Black Hills 125gr JSP HP) but mostly .38SPL+P. All my revolvers are Taurus and am happy w/them. Your price seems in line.

By comparison to pricing in my part of the country $300 new is a very fair price.

Yes I own one and I like it. Stout, but not vicious w/ +P

Tackle box/boat gun. And, I've also thrown it in a day pack more than a time or two.

I had a 605C (compensated). It was a very nice gun to shoot and amazingly accurate. I even enjoyed shooting it with hot .357 loads. It had a couple of problems, though. The screw for the slide release kept backing out, even when I used Loktite. Worse, the brass didn't sit tight enough in the chambers and it would expand upon shooting, making reloading out of the question. Also, it was a real bear to get the spent brass to eject. Sometimes I had to take a tool and tap the ejection rod until the brass came out. I chalk both problems up to questionable quality control. It kind of turned me off from Taurus guns. Too bad, too, since it was such a nice gun to shoot.

Taurus 605

Shooting full 357 Mags. out of the 605 is pretty tough on a J frame sized revolver, even though it's chambered for the round. A better choice in my own 605 2" is the 125 +p JHP in Rem.UMC 100 pack from Wally, or the 125 +p Win. JHP from Wally also. Both are really accurate in such a small gun, getting about an inch and one eighth sized groups at 25 ft. I think these two 38+p's are the way to go.

I got a 3" stainless 605 about 2 months ago now. Love everything about it. Except - If anyone finds a Speedloader that works with a brand new one please let me know. And I am talking about one they have used, not one they say will work, because I have bought Safariland, and HKS, and some other brand, and none of them work. (And I own about 20 other speedloaders for other guns so I do have some experience with them) I do believe Taurus has made the cylinder larger than on the model 85s and the 605s they made back in the 90s, because the HKS I had from back then that did work then, now it don't.

The problem with shooting .38 rounds was that there would get to be so much carbon built up in the end of the chamber that it would become almost impossible to load the longer .357 rounds. The only way to clean the chambers was with a dremel tool.

Whats the diameter of your cylinder? My 605 was made in 2002 and has a 1.373" diameter cylinder and works with the HKS speedloaders.

I just scrub my cylinders with a brass brush after shooting .38s and haven't had any problem getting it clean.

I just got a 605 for Christmas, and really like it. It fits great in my pocket. I am looking forward to puting a few rounds through it this weekend.

I shot about 50 rounds thru my 605 and had no problems....I shot both 38s and 357s and found that it was not near as hard to handle as I first thought with the 357s.

I have owned 2 in the past. I really liked them both. Shot straight, easy to conceal. It is a handful to shoot though so be warned. I have seen them for about $349 around here. If you want a little more bang for your buck, go with a Ruger SP101. I got mine for $439. It is a good bit heavier, but you get a quarter of an in more in the barrel and a better grip. Its worth a look. And it can handle a lot more of the big heavy loads.

My 605 is great. I put Taurus Combat Grips on and have shot nothing but 357 ammo in it. It is as accurate as a Colt D.S. "It don't get no better."
