Longest Lasting 9mm?

Hey, spunky, like I said - read lots, post little.

It's an accurate comment - that SIG looks trashed. I'd carry it in a heartbeat.

Spunky, shiny doesn't always mean good, and spinner hubcaps are dead weight. But, hang around, you can learn something. Don't get that Mac 11 chromed, there are other things to use to keep the rust off in concealed carry.

So by 100K rounds max, you will need to replace the glock frame? OK, go tell that to all the people with glocks that are well over that round count.

depending on how hard they use them, yes.
if it a range gun, then probably not.
what other parts did they replace by the time they reached 100k rounds?
again: Glocks are fine handguns, some ofmost durable on the world, but they are no wunderguns that will need no replacement of mahor parts in 100k rounds.

This doesnt necessarily apply to the above quoted post but, somehow I knew that when I read this thread title that it would become a glock vs the world thread. This forum has gotten to the point that if you speak the "g" word people come out of the wood work. Pathetic.

on the flip side, you have people walking in to topics about revolvers and telling the forum that the only good Revolver is one that you Trade for a Glock.. it goes both ways.

Regular cleaning does it, but for once I figured I'd take a shot of what it looks like after two weeks of hard use vs perfect and pristine.

Surface rust wipes off, always has, and unfortunately, the stamped slide 226s typically have a surface rust problem after lots of use.

Funny thing is despite the use (and I should do a barrel photo on it for hilarity, the Sig 'smiley' is now a long ragged tear, it's still a 'shoot clays up to 50m' pistol, same as the day I got it.

Is Troll the only word your keyboard types? Is something stuck in your computer?

I am simply deleting any comment made based on something that the idiot said. That, and the "Troll" key got stuck.

just buy a good quality 9 not a hi point or kel tec

You lump Kel-Tec in with Hi Point? come on now, just because you may not prefer them to other brands doesn't mean that you should throw them to the **** pile with the Hi Points. Kel-Tecs have a specific purpose and they do it better than any alternative available. I shot the LCP and the p3at, I'd take the Kel-Tec grip any day. As for the reliability as compared to a steel-framed SIG, of course the SIG will win 1000 times over. They are designed for different purposes. Kel-Tec doesn't make service size, full feature 9mm weapons. They make the smallest, most concealable handguns in the world.

I'm not sure I follow your phrase on "how hard they are used". If a gun sees 200K rounds, thats a hard used gun, period. If a gun only sees 10K rounds but is a daily carry or duty weapon that gets banged around, that may be considered hard used also. The point I was trying to make, and you have made for me is that the glock handgun will not self destruct from shooting. That has been proven by the high round count ones out there.

Sure, they require some maintenance, like any other firearm. Springs, trigger bar, etc. Although, I can say that I know several people that have made 15-20K rounds without replacing ANYTHING at all. Nothing.

I really agree with a lot of what you posted, I just disagree with someone that says in a 200k round span you will replace a glock frame at least twice, maybe more. That is garden variety bovine excrement.

Are we to believe that anyone has actually put 200,000 rounds thru a gun in their lifetime? BS pure and simple!!!

there are people that did that will will do that.
most are sponsored by a Ammo company, firearm manufacturer or gun magazin/TVshow.

obviously it is rare, but it happens and there are firearms that can stand up to that.

Glock 17, 19, 26
SigSauer P226 All-Steel, P229
Heckler and Koch P2000, USP

In this order.

CZ 75 (all modifications, including SP-01 Shadow) may be a nice gun, but as far as I know much less robust and reliable.

Shoot a box a day for 5 year and you're at 90k or thereabouts. :)

At the time I was doing it, 9mm was $3 a box wholesale (4.50ish retail). Bulk was cheaper.

And where did you get that piece of dubious information??? Both the PCR and P-01 were tested to extremes prior to adoption by the Czech police and the P-01 is NATO approved.

merklman, lot of people have.

competitive pistol shooters will shoot millions of rounds in their competitive careers.

200,000 rounds on trap or skeet shooters gun is nothing.

Pistols and shotguns just don't wear like rifles, which will typically be totally shot out in 15k rounds or so. I know, because I shot 14 rifles to pieces this summer, and I have the scar/callous on my shoulder and finger to prove it.

The FBI, other federal agencies and most modern police departments don't purchase their side arms on the lowest bidder system.

Here's what I think is a better question: which pistols are backed by a company that will fix, rebuild, or replace your pistol if and when you wear it out?

Honestly, it's irrelevant - even at old ammo prices (and to be equally factual, old gun prices), the $500ish Sig (which was then competing agains the $349ish Glock) of mine ate many, many, many times the weapon's cost in ammunition.

I don't expect Sig to do anything to replace a gun I've shot out (or am on the verge of doing so) - I've gotten my money's worth in enjoyment, improvement in shooting skills, having an incredibly reliable self-defense weapon when working in high risk areas, and again, in enjoyment.

They made their small profit. And I got a few more of their products, and sold a bunch here and there working in the business.

Everyone's happy.
