I want a 9mm that will have the longest life. Meaning something that can sustain the highest round counts.

What 9mm would have the longest life?

It would probably be tough to beat a Glock. Chuck Taylor has one with close to a 200k round count. I'd think a 9mm 1911 could also go as long as you could imagine.

BHP

I wont disparage any of the fine pistols already mentioned, but my Mk II Browning Hi-Power has been shooting thousands and thousands of rounds since I bought it new around 1985. It has required no repairs of any kind and that includes the barrel and springs, all original.

Yep, a Glock 9mm will probably run longer than anything else made at present with the G17 seeming to have the edge...of course, each pistol is a machine unto itself and your particular pistol's longevity is yet to be seen..but, the Glock does seem to have set a new standard...;)

As BlackHand1917 said, the BHP has shown to be a durable pistol as well...although, I do recommend changing the recoil spring on a regular basis to keep that fine pistol's slide and frame from pounding themselves...no need inviting a crack...

I've also read that the Sig 226 is very durable as well...I just prefer the same trigger pull each time as opposed to a double to single action...

My pick would be (is) the Glock 17 ...

Full-size, all-steel guns will last a long time (i.e. S&W 5906, BHP, Sig 226 ST). Guns designed for larger calibers will also last a long time in 9mm.

At some point, the lifespan of a gun becomes insignificant. Put 200K rounds of 9mm through a gun and you will have spent tens of thousands of dollars on ammo and you afford a new gun.

Realistically, any good-quality 9mm is going to last a really, really, really long time. A Beretta 92 will have its locking block break, requiring simple replacement, after a certain number of rounds, but that is the only caveat to my preceding statement.

Any 9mm Glock will stay with you many years down the road. They are very durable and long lasting guns. Easy to take down, clean and lube. Very happy with all my Glocks.

My one 9MM is a Star Model 30MI. The thing is brutally strong, rugged and reliable. It's not a good carry choice, however, because it weighs quite a bit. Make a great range or house gun, though. Hasn't jammed once with any ammo.

longest lasting as in what?

until major minor parts replacment? that is preaty mutch for all makes at around the 5-6k round mark.. new springs.

major parts replacment? again, preaty mutch any quality 9mm Pistol will last until the ~60k round mark before you have to change the barrel maybe the frame.

now if you just look at the Slide and the Slide only, then yes, a Glock will probably win, but you will replace the entire rest of the Pistol twice or more times before you reach the 200k round mark.

I have owned an Inglis chinese contract HiPower, and a Nazi belgian HiPower, both of which looked like they had been through several wars.
Both had original springs in them, and both worked perfectly.

+1 on the S&W 5906

You can get them for half of what you would pay for a Glock and honestly steel will outlast plastic no matter what the plastic is made out of. Glock is fine I guess but its still plastic, 1911 frames are always nice but limited by magazine capacity. If I only had 8 rounds id just get the Thunder Range .357 from S&W with 8 rounds of 357. But that's just me and ive been called weird before.

practically every one of those will out last ones lifetime and every one of them is also made to replace parts as they break or wear. nothing wrong with that either. How many worn out guns have you actualy seen???? I can't remember any in all my years. Some may look worn due to neglect or just over all hard use but wearing out a good gun today is just not going to happen. PARTS MANUALS take care of that stuff. We tend to worry about the longivety of a gun, when some or most never shoot 5000 rounds in their lifetime. Those that shoot 20,000 rounds and up, expect some replacement parts. Just the nature of the beast...

Just buy what you want and shoot it like you stole it..

Dang that XD test was very nice. Id love to see someone do it to the M&P and even my beloved 5906. Ive only heard great things about the XD and my buddy just got a XD(m) but im just a little taken back because it doesn't feel right in my hand. But again, thats just me.

In my personal collection, I have a Sig 226 that's near retirement, chamber might eat a 9x21 at this point, there are no sharp edges any more from carrying it for a long, long time, and it was my 'box a day average or bust' pistol for a long long time.

It's the world's ugliest Eurotrash pistol, I clean it every few weeks but it's the equivalent of the beat-up screwdriver or hammer you've used for decades - I don't care what it looks like any more.

every one of those will out last ones lifetime

This is entirely accurate. There is no reason that any of the quality weapons mentioned within this thread, and some others, should not be lifetime guns, or even heirloom guns.

Browning High Power.

Mine is 26 years old and all original, the log book says 85,975 rounds through it..... if push comes to shove, I'll sell everything else and rob 7-11's with the BHP!

:D
