Wal-mart cheap ammo

Out of state? That doesn't apply to ammo does it? I buy ammo in various states ALL THE TIME. Also, the out of state shouldn't apply here for guns either, as these are adjoining states. However, I guess you did say it was Illinois.....

I went to Wal-mart yesterday afternoon looking for .38 Special and .380acp, both of which I have in very short supply. I was out of luck. However, I still had to buy something; so I settled for 550 rounds of Remington bulk-pack 22LR, 100 rounds of CCI Mini-mags in 22LR and a box of shotgun shells.

I'll never buy the Remington 550 pack of 22LR again. That stuff has all kinds of trouble in my Buckmark. I've become a fan of the Federal 22LR copper plated. I can't find it at the Wal Mart I shop at.

All the wal-marts around here, that's 3 of them, are out of anything but 7mm, 30-06, and 300 win mag.Oh and, 22. Of which, I have 0 guns that shoot those. And I've never had any trouble with the winchester white box 9mm

+1 remington .22 sux. No good in my marlin either. Federal works well, no FTF,FTE,or any other types of jams(unless I'm due for a cleaning, Marlin model 60 gets dirty quick). The old rem was ok, and I stress OK, when you could get in in the BIG milk cartons, but not anymore.

As mentioned earlier, why don't you guys reload? It's easy and enjoyable. You can also work up very accurate loads for your particular gun.

Because reloading supplies are just as hard to find as ammo, not really much cheaper, and it takes time that I don't currently have. Also the range I use is a horrible mess. Brass everywhere, never be able to find mine and bring it home.

Have faith!

I went to Wally World to buy groceries last night and checked the ammo isle as I have been for the past two weeks, and what do I see but the previously empty shelves stocked with box after box of Blazer Brass and WWB 100 packs of 9mm! I just ordered 1k FAE from Natchez, but now I've got 1k of Blazer Brass as well. I now feel well prepared for the zombie hordes. :D

Not in my experience. Local gun shop has plenty of primers for sale, bullets can be had quite easily online (and cheaply too if you use lead), brass is for sale everywhere if you need it, and powder doesn't seem to be in short supply around here.

If you shoot on a range where no one cleans up their brass, you are in a better situation than most. Pick up all the brass, sort it, keep the brass you need, and sell the rest on forums like this one. You can cut the price of reloading even further by doing that. You can buy just about everything you need to handload for about $300 new (less if you buy Lee products or used items).

As far as cost savings, I can handload 1000 rounds of .38 Special or 9x19 for about $75-$85, depending on prices of components. 500 rounds of WWB 9x19 at WallyWorld is $113 including tax around here, if you can find that much. So, even for 9x19, which is going to be the least savings, its less than half the cost to handload the ammo, and the ammo you handload will be better than WWB once you get the hang of it. The savings on .38 Special are even greater, and my handloaded .38 Special is much better than anything WallyWorld sells.

It costs me more to handload .45ACP and .44 Special due to more expensive bullets, but I can still do 1000 of either for around $125 or so. $125/k is a substantial savings over factory .45ACP, but its out of sight savings on .44 Special. I hate to think what 1000 factory .44 Specials cost. I get 240 grain RNFP .430 bullets for about the same price at 230 grain RNL .452 bullets, and everything else is the same cost, assuming I use my own brass. Buying .44 Special brass is more expensive, but it still amounts to huge savings.

Time it does take, but spending an hour a day handloading will save you a ton of money over time, and its a fun hobby.

Yea its exactly the same with my walmarts too.
no problems with the winchester?? I dont like to shoot those, I dont have a 9mm though, but I bought it a few times for my 45's and holy crap, the primers were dinged and or scored, the casings looked like crap and some of them even had the bullets pressed to deep into the casing.

I bought all they had

And this is one of the reasons they are price gouging.......... They know it will sell.... And one or two "panicked" shoppers will buy up all they have. That's what they see.

I see this comment a lot on gun forums, and it always irks me. Why not leave some for the next guy? :banghead: i understand if they have 2 boxes or something, but I have seen guys with 30+ boxes......

C'mon guys, leave some for the rest of us.....

with 7.62x39 being scarce and 7.62x51/308 being expensive, why bother shooting any of the semi-auto rifles? Seems like the best option if you just want to shoot in general is shooting .22 or one of the shotgun sports. Shooting my AK once a year is friggin sad.

Never mind walmart, go to academy sports. They have plenty and the prices are better than wally world. Back last November I bought 4 cases of 7.62x39 for $74.75 a case. You will never see that type of sale at walmart. My only issue is that I didn't buy more.:banghead:

Wally World in VA

Receipt here for five boxes of Remington .223 at $9.97 a box. Guy that works the "sporting goods" is a good guy, when I walked up, he only had one box of .223, and that for $14.99, then he remembered and looked under the counter. Didn't buy all he had, like others, saved some for the next guy. Did note the barren shelves of anything greater than .25 or less than .375. He mentioned that he could sell every box of 9mm, .38, .40 and .45 Wal Mart could ship to him. Long arms were mainly shotties and some wild pink .22 bolt action. Nary a Mini-14 to be found. Guess we peace-loving, law abiding, CHL-holding citizens north of the York River are doing our part in this "stimulus" deal our great and beloved President is all excited about! Thankfully, our Congresscritter is one of us'un's!

I had a long discussion with the manager of a South Carolina Walmart tonight. (outside of Charleston). She heard Walmart is waiting to see what happens with Obama's ammo tax bill. Walmart doesn't mark up it's ammo much and if they can't make enough money on it due to a tax increase, then they (Walmart) are going to get out of the ammo business.

gloucestergarand, any idea if the WalMarts on the other side of the bridge are out of ammo? I'm looking for .38 and I'll be up in Poquoson this weekend. Thanks!

Got lucky here and found a dozen or so boxes of WWB 100 round for $19.97, and about 20 100 round boxes of WWB .45 auto for $29.97. Bought a few of each. All other pistol ammo except .22 bare. Heck, they were even out of .25 auto this time. No shortage of rifle ammo at all. Comes and goes, I guess.

I'm lucky to be home 1 day out of a month, and like to spend that with my small children that miss daddy. Reloading is not an option for me. If I set up shop in my truck, or even had the supplies in here to do so, I would spend a LONG time in prison....

Bought the last box of Remington .22LR the other day at my Wal-Mart... haven't seen any more since. My Marlin 60 likes Remington just fine, haven't had a problem.

Just got back from another trip and they finally had some .45. They had one 100rd box of WWB and about 10 boxes of Blazer. I bought the WWB. I've been buying it when I see it, but I'm finished buying any more for a few months.

I can reload 1000 rounds of 40 ammo, at today's component prices, for $130. A couple years ago, I was doing for $110. The ammo I have loaded up, are from components that were bought a couple years ago, so $110/case.:D Compare that to WWB at $30/100, or $300/case.:barf: My reloads are superior to that crap.:neener:
