I was about 4 or so the first time I fired a gun. I had a Ruger 10/22 when I was 6, a Rossi pump 22 before that. First shootgun at 9 and a Colt Frontier Scout at 10. I'm 28 and my wife's little bro is 13, and I dont think he has ever fired a gun and I cant do anything about it. I think thats kinda sad.

To be honest, I don't really remember. I got my first shotgun, a hand-me-down Iver johnson single shot 20 ga, when I was nine. But I had shot .22's prior to that.

I started my son out with a Henry Mini-Bolt single shot .22 right after he turned two. He is now six and has the Mini-Bolt, a Henry lever .17HMR, a 10/22 and a Remington 788 in .243. We shoot together quite a bit.

Probably 5 or 6 shooting dad's guns. He got me my first .22 I could call my own when I was about 10. It was a Nylon 66. I bought my 1st gun on my own in the mid 60's. It was a Revelation 12ga pump from Western Auto.

I was 4 or 5 the first time I fired a gun. I can't remember if it was a H&R .22lr revolver of my grandpa's or my dad's .22lr single shot Revelation. Both were shot on the same day.

Acquired my first deer rifle around the ages of 8-10, a Remmy Model 700 .270 Winchester. Also got a .410 Mossberb pump for a squirrel gun.

My standards have changed along the way. I've upgraded to Magnum class rifles for deer, .22lr's for squirrel (more fun that way), and the .270 has been taken over by my girlfriend.

First gun was a Bejammin Pump (pellet gun) at 7 or 8. Next gun was a JC Higgins dbl barrel 410 age 12 followed by a M1 Garand 30 cal rifle and a M2 30 cal Carbine at 15 (US Army) and many different guns including 20mm gatlin until age 39.

age three to eight it was cap pistols
man! did i get those bad guys

age nine to eleven a Daisy
My father taught me how to be safe and shoot

age twelve
a .22 bolt action single shot rifle
i was not allowed to use on my own until i was about fifteen

I was like 9, shooting 12ga and 30-30 rifles with two of my friends dads, and like 7 other kids. My dad was not into shooting :)() so i had to go with others.

gbran,

Now that I think of it, dad's Nylon 66 was the first gun that I shot. Somehow, his brother ended up with it. I came across one three years ago that was in good shape. Let's just say that it followed me home.

I was 12 and it was a .22lr.
Owned my first gun at 18, another .22lr. I didn't grow up in a gun family and my only shooting experience was back when I was 12-14 shooting .22's at camp so I bought what I knew. Now I'm 24 and totally obsessed and I've gotten my dad into it as well. It's like they say, like son like father ;)

I was 8 when I first started on a BB gun, 12 for a .22 revolver and I have been actively hunting big game since 14 years old.

Fired a gun for the first time on June 25, 2008, just a few weeks shy of my 59th birthday. Guess that makes me a late bloomer.

I inherited my father-in-law's S&W model 642. Hated it. Traded with my son for my late husbands model 10-5. Much better. Have since bought and shot several other handguns. A few days ago I got a model 19-3 that I'm looking forward to trying out.

I was about 4. I remember once grandpa and dad giving me a 410, told me it was a 22, and I cried when it knocked me over. I guess they werent to worried about my developing a flinch:uhoh:

I just bought my son a lever action .22, model 150, he's 16 months . . .

He won't be shooting for a litle while yet :) :)

I don't remember how old I was, but it was in the late '40's! .22 singleshot was the first rifle I owned, probably 12-14 years old. Oldest brother took me rabbit hunting and let me use his .410 double barrel long before that. Can't remember if I was old enough for a hunting license or not. Back then there was no one around anyway.

My grandpa took me shooting when I was six and I got to shoot his 38 special. It was along time after he died before I had the opportunity to get into shooting. I feel your pain. My wifes little brother is the same age and is in the same boat. I tried to take him shooting one day and my father in law gave me permission. When I took the little punk to shoot he was petrified of the gun. Not that it went bang but that he didnt think he knew how to shoot it. I am a cop and I showed him how to shoot and even shot about 50 rounds from 6 of my pistols. Everything from my walthers p22 up to my Judge he wouldnt shoot them. He has a marlin 22 that is in bad shape that was given to him by his uncle. I told the kid that I would show him how to shoot it and how to clean it. I got my kit out to clean the gun, I ended up cleaning half of it before he told me that he was afraid he would mess it up if he cleaned it. I chalked it up to the kid just being lazy and I decided to let him have his half nasty rifle back and I quit caring if he got beat up on the playground. Kids these days......

My father gave me my first official shooting lesson at about 7 or 8 years old.

A little over a year later he died of a heart attack at 43 years old and I'll admit, I'm 41 (42 tomorrow) and every time I put a shot into a target, I still feel like he's standing behind and off to the side of me "calling" my hits and misses. :)

I don't really recall. It may sound funny, but I was always a bit shy about shooting my Dad's 22 rifle when I was under 10 years old. I know I shot it, but I don't recall when I started. I really started shooting at age 13 or 14 (9th grade) when I got my first 22 rifle.

I can't remember exactly, but I started in the back yard with my dad's air rifle in late elementary school or early middle school. Later we started shooting skeet at our cabin with a .410/.22 over/under, moved up to a single shot 20 gauge when I got a bit bigger, and occasionally a pump action .22 rifle. I didn't really get into shooting regularly until college.

Dont remember much, mostly living history growing up, some artillery at teen early and one shot with da holding hand over so recoil dont knock me down, sat listening to the clays and shots all day always watching never shooting much. Blasted a wheelborrow with bird shot from 10 feet at 14. (Man never thought about safety in those days did we?... whew)

That makes me a late bloomer. I think I was a young adult with two good friends break single shot got well with it and a .22 rim revolver was when I could actually aim and hit something decent. I have been drawn upon as the bg a few times but only because I failed to communicate my arrival prior.

Late bloomer that was what I was. But grew up choking on the smoke of that stuff firing alot. Loved it.
