9mm Luger because:

Lower practice ammo cost
Light recoil, especially in small guns
You can fit lots of them into bigger guns
Adequate "stopping power" for civilian self defense
Really cool pistols made for it

Were practice ammo more reasonably priced I would rate .45 more highly. I dislike the recoil characteristics of .40 in small guns, and have no experience with 10mm.

I see at present is stands at 10% in the poll. Wish gun dealers stocked 1 10mm for every 10 auto's in the other calibers.
Pistols, ammo, or both?

I got bit by the 10mm bug before I got married and couldn't find one locally.

Tough choice between the 9mm & .45acp, but I love the heft & feel of an all-steel .45; especially in the colder months. Concealment is easier in the winter and my performance with the .45 isn't much different than my 9mm....

I like the 9mm for price of ammo. I like the .45 as thats what a 1911 really is meant for. I like .380 because of the mouse guns out there chambered in it. The .40 and 10mm are ok, just don't do anything special for me.

I switch between a G19 and my Kimber Crimson Carry and love the variety but chose .45 because I love my Kimber.

Like them all, they all have their place in the scheme of things. However, my favorite du jour is 7.62x25 based on cost and availability.

I'd better like 9mm; most all of the handguns that I own are in that caliber. Oddly, I don't currently own a .45. I'll have to do something about that.

Pistols. I make my own ammo. Just have to buy brass, primers and powder. I cast my own bullets and roll my own rounds.

Choice depends on use of course. Concealed carry most of the time is 40 or 45 in a Kahr or Kimber respectively. Based on where I go, I don't feel the need to carry a HICAP; I generally leave the Glock 21 in the truck when/if I feel the need. My smallest 9s are a 92FS and P226, but they are fun to shoot at the range.

9mm. Cheaper to shoot so there is more practice time. Enough fire power to allow me to una** the area if needed. I do love the 45 but I find the 9mm in my hand or on my side more often.
