my bet... 30% 9mm, 50% .45 and 20% .40 and then some guys who just come in and say stuff like .357 sig, 10mm auto, 38 super etc etc

the 9mm:because you can carry 2 or 3 times the amount of 9mm than .45, ammo is dang cheap, doesn't matter how big the bullet is matters where you put them, It comforts me to know I can carry 75 rounds of ammo where I could only carry at most 36 .45
the .45: It has knock down power, you only need 2 .45 to do what 5 or 6 9mm will do, your 9mm might expand but .45 will never shrink, I want the biggest available option I have,
the .40: I believe it is the perfect compromise between .45 and 9mm, you get both capacity and knock down power, most police agencies use it etc etc

These are going to be the most common answers to your question.

First post and a good place to start.

Being a caster and hand loader for over 40 years, I like the 10mm because of it versatility. For starters, I can load it down to 800 fps plinking status or run it up to full power if I want. If I ever need nuclear power I buy Buffalo Bore. And accuracy in my S&W 1006 and G20 is outstanding at all velocities as long as I do my job.

As a lifelong scrounger, case availability has never been an issue. Starline sells unfired stuff and given their cases' strength I safely get multiple loadings. But it is nice having a barrel full of fired hulls.

"morning guys, David here. Y'all have a great day!

I have some of each caliber listed, but if I could only have one, it would be 9mm. Inexpensive ammo, hi cap mags, cheap to reload, dependable reliable handguns can be had for it within most peoples budget. What is not to like?

9mm because the difference in cost adds up toward my next gun purchase. Seriously, do the math.

Although I am now primarily carrying .45acp, I really like the round because it is less expensive which means I can practice more, I can get back on target more quickly, and it is the only caliber that I am unlikely to ever be without. :what:

I really enjoy the 9mm, my carry weapon is a .357 sig now days since that what they issued us before that most of us was carrying 9mm. At that time we was still buying our own weapons with the exception of the narcs and dectives which were all issued beretta's purchased using drug dealers monies. I always like the high number or rounds the 9mm gave me. I purchase my own beretta after they took the issued one away and it is the weapon that I use for a HD weapon and the one we put in the car when we go out of town. We also notice when we went to the sig .357 scores went down at the range this told me that the 9mm was a lot easier to control for most shooters. Also the few shootings I have been around I have notice it really all about shot placement

be safe

To me a handgun is a defensive weapon so I want the one with the most punch = .45 now if I was a big plinker I'd like whatever is cheapest = 9mm

Size vs power, 9x19 is hard to beat. Out of a subcompact pocket 9 it produces .357 snubby ballistics with a lot less flash/bang. It has more capacity, too. Hard to beat the little pocket 9s for carry.

.22 for fun.

Price of ammo has nothing to do with my choice. All my ammo is cheap, the cost of a primer and some powder. I get all the brass and lead I need at the range.

Out of the choices listed, the .40 is what I prefer.
In similar sized pistols, if offers more punch than the 9mm and more capacity than the .45ACP.

I also like the .357Sig
Ballistics that mimic the 125g .357 magnum round, from a 9mm sized autoloader that hold 15 rounds....awesome!

+1.

If ammo cost wasn't an issue, I'd always go with 45s. I like the recoil - not too much, not too little. Great for self defense.

9 mm inexpensive and great if I am taking a training class which involves a lot of rounds or doing a lot of social plinking.

I carry a Glock 22. I like the .40 because of it's in between size of the 9mm and .45. My glock holds just as many rounds as my beretta 92fs, but with a larger bullet, and higher pressures. The overall size of the gun is not too big to conceal, and it's got enough barrel length to get decent velocity out of the .40 cal. round. I carry with 46 rounds of Winchester Ranger 180gr. Bonded JHP. 1 in the pipe, 3 15round mags.

I own/shoot/reload all of the poll choices, but none to the exclusion of the others. Lately I've been shooting my .40s more than the others, subject to change anytime of course.

Well now, I'm a little surprised there are seven votes for 10mm. Does my old heart good.

Now I just need to know which is really my first post. CRS disease strikes again.

9mm. capacity, decent power with defense loads, cheaper to practice with.

on the other hand, i just got my first .45 last week and i suspect that will be my favorite caliber once i get a press
