Dr. Rob, I would rather give you a gun than have you go into Gunsmoke and get taken over the counter.

Ha! I need a Blue/CCH 5.5 inch Ruger Vaquero in .44 magnum ;) or a CMMG .22 upper with a a front sight, It's my birthday :p

Honestly, the 'making guns' part I thought was pretty good. Doesn't reflect on 'typical' customer experience I'm sure. I'll watch it again.

I've gotta know - what's the deal with his first wife?

I knew it was a hokey deal when he said he had a helicopter standing by. Too much cash flash and theatrical acting for me. I'm really surprized the rancher didn't throw him off the place. The rancher could obviously buy and sell Rich with pocket change.

Mr. Blue.

How does Gander Mountain stay in business when every gun person knows they are way overpriced... They get gullible people who have no ideas what guns and ammo really cost. Same with Rich. He had a Uberti 1873 one day when I walked in there when he was on Wadsworth. I looked at it and it was exactly what I wanted for Cowboy Action shooting, but I knew it was priced about $300 too high. So, I went to another store and they had it for the right price.

Now, he probably did sell that gun, to someone who had no idea what the real price was. And that person may have thought it was a good deal and continued to shop and be raped by gunsmoke.

Also, anyone who has taken a gun there to be worked on... well, even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally. I would not let one of his demons touch one of my guns as it is a crap shoot as to whether it comes back working or whether you now have a wall hanger. Dealing with them isn't worth the roll of the dice.

How did stores like Dean's, Dave's and Cal's Sporting Arms stay in business? same thing.. rape the customer until there aren't any left. Then go out of business

Gunsmoke: the Craptacular gun shop

heres the article about Wyatt's dealing with the ex:

I had a scope base put on by these (((insert explitives here please... Sorry, my bad  edited for content :))))they scratched up the top of the reciever and took 3 months doing it. it was impossible to communicate with them, even when i went in there "The Guy" that was working on it was mystiously never there to talk with.

I went in there after they moved hoping that it had changed owners/management, it hadn't. i dont even go in there to just look at guns. they dont seem to want to be bothered unless you're there to drop some serious coin or are in there "Elite" circle of shooters. There are much better gun shops and smiths in the area, i'll go there. If anyone's been screwed over by them recently, now would be a good time to go in and complain, while the cameras were rolling, LOL. That or all us "haters" out here could go down and have a quick protest while the cameras take it all in :p

If he is as bad as some people are saying he is, how does he have such a big business? It stands to reason that he must have SOME loyal customers. Being a cocky self promoter is one thing, but being a dishonest scumbum is another. If the latter is true, then I doubt his business and show will be around very long.

Simple. Very few of his customers are really gun people, like most of us. The majority of his customers are NON-gun people who are just getting in to guns, and think because of the flashiness of the shop they're going to the best place in town. The people that know firearms and the sport well avoid Rich and Gunsmoke like the plague. He flourishes by fleecing the unsuspecting and naive. Same with Dragonman in Colorado Springs.

I watched the first episode. I wasn't impressed I won't be watching it again:barf:

Seemed contrived and dramatized.

The father is annoying and full of himself and the wife and daughter seem like they would be better suited for a show like Jersey Shore. The whole scene with him stuffing stacks of cash into a duffel bag and jumping in a helicopter was really annoying and contrived and did anyone else notice how they replayed him putting money in the bag over and over again to make it look like he was putting more in than he was? On top of that the fact that he lets his 17 year old daughter dress the way she does and get flirty with the male customers was a bit disturbing, what kind of father is he? I get the feeling that he's using his daughters looks to his personal advantage in order to make sales and that's fine if she's not your daughter and not a minor, seriously at least wait until she turns 18 so you don't look like a complete scumbag!

Discovery channel has really gone downhill with some of the recent crap shows they've been adding to their lineup, although I will say that I enjoyed Penn & Teller Tell A Lie, that was pretty good.

Also, the 16 year old daughter had a pistol OC'ed on her the whole show. Is a minor in possession of a hand gun legal in CO?

I thought the kids were irritating, same as the wife. The owner was a pompous jerk to his wife and employees.

Will I watch episode 2? probably :(

Show wasn't bad. Not sure what you guys expect out of a reality TV show about a gun shop...

Didn't know the daughter was only 16, that makes it WAY worse that the dad allows her to dress like that for the show.

I'll keep watching until it gets cancelled.

For all I know that was a prop gun, didn't she wear it left handed and shoot with her right? OC I is legal at 18, though you can't buy a handgun til 21. Under some circumstances (like your own property) I THINK a minor can be in posession of an OC firearm (I'm muddling through what I remember about minors and handguns) it also might be legal during hunting season, provided said minor has a 'mentor'.

She's in a store owned and ran by her parents, why wouldn't she be allowed to carry? You can shoot at the range at any age as long as your parents are there (at least here in VA) but put it on your hip and you're in trouble?

Rick was just mean as heck to the CNC guy about the cylinder. During him saying to make it perfect on the first time with just measurements. I was just thinking about Rick, "why dont you do it your self"! And the daughter and brother were very annoying. And the daughter if she was trying to "conceal carry" she was far away from it. The gun looked way, way to big on her and it looked foolish. Because of the size of here related to the gun, if she tried to conceal carry that gun would be bulging like it was a putting a basketball on your side and walking around.

I enjoyed the old winchesters the rancher had and the pistol that was owned by the Colorado sherriff.

I finally watched it. I'm a bit dis-appointed.......not a great show as I'd hoped.....just too much artificial drama. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else, as it is (the shows format) no different from any other of the multitudes of "reality" shows currently running on Discovery & History channel.
I mean really, what could we have expected?

Now, having said THAT....I will continue to watch the show as silly as it is....if anything just to see the guns. I enjoyed seeing the ranchers lever guns, I also enjoyed the guy coming in with the 1st gen. SAA. That was kinda cool.
One part that was frustrating to me was when the daughter Paige was showing the S&W model 29 .44 magnum........I kept trying to freeze-frame the picture to get a good look at the gun to see what generation it was. Best I could tell it was a current or recent production from Smiths' "classic" line. Hard to tell.....

....and that comes back to what's frustrating about the show.......too much fake drama and not enough detail about the guns themselves.

Rick the owner seems an obnoxious guy......and quite a poser.....but then again he is likely just playing to the cameras......perhaps reading from a script.
I cannot criticize the kids, they're teenagers after all. They do seem like normal teens......I have to say though.....that the kids DID practice & display good trigger finger discipline when shooting.

Some folks seem to think this show will just be "fuel" for the "anti-crowd". I don't agree. I just don't see it. Besides, the antis already have all the fuel they need and will continue to MAKE more fuel as their agenda seems fit. You cannot budge such a stubborn & ignorant mindset and their minds are firmly made up. What the show does indicate is that the shooting sport is in the mainstream of society..........people like guns.....and the majority are good people. This is a plus.

Think about it.
I do not know anything about the entertainment buisness myself, but I think it must be true that before a new show goes into production....the producers must do research to find out if there is a market for the show to be produced....."Will we find sponsors....do people want to SEE a gun-related show?"....etc,etc. The answer must have been a definitive yes.

My point being that 25 years ago and earlier one would never in a million years see such a mainstream program on TV promoting the shooting sports.
As goofy as the show is......lets thank our lucky stars Discovery didn't create an anti-gun "reality" show!

We are progressing gentlemen!:)

So what we have here is just another silly reality show in the mix.....but just happens to be about a subject we love.......guns. (second smiley justified:))

If I desire good solid information I'll still consider the gun shows on the "Outdoor Channel" to be the best ever........but I'll continue to watch "American Guns" just for the sheer fun of it and being able to have a laugh with the guys at work on Monday.....and who knows? Ill get to see some cool guns now and then.

I watched this show with my boys, 15 and 20.... They had no issues with the daughter or mother, at all for some reason.

Their biggest comment was "How does she expect to work and sell guns carrying that stupid little dog around?"

I found the owner to be a bit obnoxious, the wife to be a bit obnoxious, and the son to be furniture... didnt do or say much really..

I'll watch it again because it is a gun show, and it needs supported.
And I like guns.....

It never ceases to amaze me how some people are easily swooned by inauthentic razzle dazzle by pushy salespeople.
How absurd was it that Rick attempted to hawk that caliber cool, yet super ugly pink and purple rifle to the rancher?

I enjoyed the old winchesters the rancher had and the pistol that was owned by the Colorado sherriff.
I liked these parts of the show, too. I wish they showed more of the rancher's collection.

I'll at least watch it the first time. I may learn something. With my knowledge of guns that's almost a given. I quit watching Top Shot when they started throwing rocks. Sons of Guns is entertaining but has almost nothing to do with any firearms I'll ever fire. I'm sure there are some good "gun shows" on TV, but they must air between 8am-12pm on Sundays.

IIRC, she wore it on her right and shot right handed, too.

Anyway, regardless, walking around a city street during a biker rally isn't either hunting, supervised or on private property..

It was on her left and she was shooting right handed. I'm sure it was just staged that she would wear it on her left when the camera just happened to be on that side.

Yep. The perfect show for anti's to scream about. Half dressed miner girls, bikers and guns.
Interesting article: Read the Marine Corps Times interview with Will Haden.

Oh, and a friend of mine, who is relatively famous here in CO, told me that Rich likes to slide up to celebrities and have his picture taken with them to post in his store. He is the slimiest Huckster this side of Obama. He said that the Pic of him and said celebrity is no way an endorsement of Rich and his merry band of morons.

Nice to see he has respect for his wife too:

This guy is a TOOL of epic proportions. And that is a "taking the high road" description of him. A trip around the internet will find more accurate descriptions of what people really think of him.

Funny enough, I've done business with Red Jacket way before the TV show and did some research first. Nothing negative came up. And my dealings were great with them. So it is somewhat odd the TV producers choose Wyatt of Gunsmoke who lives in Internet infamy. But he does brings lots of drama and a willingness to pimp his wife and 16-year old stepdaughter for his own personal gain. Oh, and supposedly he's an ex LEO but likes to hang out with Hell's Angels.

I'll pass on the show.

Still had it on my DVR, and ran though to get the name of the Sheriff the Colt belonged to, and the daughters pistol is on her right side for the entire episode, except for one close up where she tells someone "I'm wearing a 1911 Defender right now" and they give a 2 second close up of a gun in a holster on someones left hip.

Other than that single shot, it's on her right side all the time.

Gotta remember about video and photo editing. Quite often the editor will reverse the image on the horizontal to make it fit the frame better. Happens all the time in magazines and film.

It was probably always on one hip, but an image reversal for a few frames to show the gun better may have made it appear to look like it was on the other.
