Suggest a new pistol for a CZ "fanboy"

I was participating in my nth thread defending my chosen brand and another poster referred to the CZ fanboys. As in don't trouble them with the facts they'll never learn. I realized that I was acting a little defensive, and I'm looking for my new pistol so I'll try something new.

I'm looking at a SIG 226 KB that a local guy has with a parkerized slide and one mag at a little under $400. Are there any other high cap, steel or alloy frame, DA/SA pistols out there that are comparable in cost (maybe up to about $550?) that you non CZ folks think are as nice? I'm only interested in 9mm or .45.

As always I appreciate everyone's input. I am not starting a new fight. If there's a general consensus that I might find a pistol as pleasing to shoot as my CZs with these parameters in mind I'm willing to try it.

If any of you are looking to go the other way and see what CZ is all about. I've got a 75B LNIB with about 100 down the pipe that I might trade.

I've been down the S&W semi-auto road and I'm not going back so they are out; and I think the Ruger P?? series of pistols is basically the next best thing to shooting a brick.
 
I know your asking for non-CZ's, but I think it is hard to beat the CZ SP-01 Shadow in this category, unless you want to go SA only, and get a Browning Hi Power.

The Sigs are great guns, I have one, and it is fine, but I find the higher bore axis annoying, and tend to gravitate back to guns like my CZ's, BHP or HK P7's.

Is this pretty much a range and HD gun?
 
Correct, 75C tu-tone is my carry. This next pistol will be just go into the range (back 40) rotation.
The P7 is sharp! But unless your offering to trade me yours I don't think its gonna get into the price range.

9mm guns to consider, Sig, is very good, Kimber, Sprinfield EMP

or My All time favorite a CZ75 compact.

There is the tried and true S&W 5906. You'll get it for far less that your target price (around $300-350) as a police surplus gun.

There was a suggestion above for the Beretta 92. They are great.

If you like CZs so much, you might also want to consider the IMI Jericho/Baby Eagle. Not an exact clone, but a very similar gun with a lot borrowed from the CZ75. I love them.
 
I wouldn't trade/sell off a nice CZ. I like the Beretta/Taurus 92, but would take a CZ75 over either, any day.
Sig is great, too, but I'd still prefer a CZ.

There's nothing wrong with your Czoice in pistols.
If you're happy with CZs, screw anyone who wants to push your buttons to get you to buy another brand.
 
I like CZ's and Sigs.
If you're not liking your 75B I would first suggest firing another couple hundred rounds. I didn't shoot my 75B real well when I first bought it. It took several range sessions to get dialed into it. Now I shoot it better than I shoot my .357 single action revolver, especially when I'm having an off day. My DA/SA transition shooting has never been better, even better than with my old Sig P226.

I like Sigs a lot, but the new ones don't do it for me. For $500 you could probably find a sweet German P226 used.

Berettas, meh, there OK.

Not much else out there other than CZ clones.
 
I'm a CZ 75B owner and former PCR owner. The PCR for some reason stung my trigger finger and made range time unpleasant. It got traded for a Ruger SR9c and I couldn't be happier. You get the short mag and the long mag, recoil is minimal, mine is accurate and it cost $389. Best deal out there.
 
Well, I like CZs, too, but you could do worse than trying an older Browning Hi-Power or a SIG 228, if you can get either with a little trigger work already done.

Find either one at a reasonable price will be a challenge, but it can be done.

(I have a 228 I paid some extra for, as it had been given a full custom action package by Gray Guns, and it's phenomenal. I also have a T-series BHP that has a marvelous trigger.)

CZs are hard to beat, but some other guns are also quite good. Having one or both of the two "snob" guns mentioned above will give you extra credibility when you talk about the guns you love...

These don't point great for me, I've gotten some trigger time with the Taurus version of this one. Which is supposed to be identical in size and shape. No function issues with it at all but not something I want for myself.

Your right, but I've a couple of Smiths in semi and I haven't been very happy, they were traded away pretty quickly. But in fairness I've haven't had one of these, I'll leave it in the list for now.

Oh no, that isn't it at all. It isn't getting much time out of the safe because I've kinda horded several very similar pistols. This one is just my most plain jane, easy to part with pistol.

Agreed, but part of the fun of shooting is trying out new platforms. My weekends are getting a little vanilla shooting multiple versions of the same pistol. There are no rentals around but my LGS allows those he knows are serious buyers to try out used models in his inventory. I'm not going in there and ask to shoot every pistol in the case, I'm using this thread to narrow down the choices and then I'll go try them out. I have exactly zero complaints with my CZ pistols, but I'd like something a little different.
 
Hey, as a fellow CZ owner, which I dearly love, I recently purchased a CC weapon, a Colt Agent in 45ACP, added Crimson Trace, I am quite pleased, and my IWB holsters work with either weapon.

Shoot Straight! Keep your Powder Dry!
 
How about a Sig P220 .45 auto, not a double stack, but it is a .45, sweet shooting, very accurate and would mix a little chocolate into your vanilla weekends.
 
So let's narrow it down...

-DA/SA
-steel/alloy frame
-9mm/.45 ACP
-$550 max
-not a CZ, Ruger, S&W, or Beretta
-at least as nice as a CZ

A used SIG would seem to be the only option remaining.

I think you're right. My list was down to that or a BHP.

The Bersa someone mentioned looks good in pictures but I'm not ready to try one yet. I think I might be becoming a snob.

I've got some shopping to do, I'll revive this thread when I find one. I like that P220 in 45, but I've only found the 9mm version as a trade in. Seems like there aren't a lot of used pistols in stock at any of my usual online places. Matter of fact I'm not finding a many at any of the unusual places either.

Is the P6 just a single stack version of the P226?
 
The Hi Power is a great pistol - my favorite 9mm - but it doesn't meet your DA/SA requirement. But if you haven't tried one, I highly recommend it.

No the P6 is the same as the P225. Shorter and thinner than the P226, more like a single stack P228. Slightly larger than a P239.
The P6/P225 is a sweet little gun.
Lots of German police trade ins for under $400.

5. No hammer camming, just a smooth light pull to a crisp break.

Ok, bringing it back for the update. I veered way off course on this one. I did pick up another milsurp CZ since my last post but my new range toy broke every single rule I set for myself.

One of my shooting buddies and I started swapping pistols and trying to out shoot each other using one another's gear. I found out I shot his Springfield XDm 3.8 as well as my CZs. So that's what I wound up adding to the rotation for some variety. I'm not a striker fire poly frame convert but its a very capable weapon and I was flat out shocked at how nice the factory trigger is in it.

So I broadened my horizons a lot. Thanks all for the input. Also thanks for the lead on Cajun Gun Works, I'm going to do one of their upgrades on my compact 75.

Used Sig P226/229 is what I would go with if you want to switch it up from CZs.

If you've expanded to polymer/striker I got to check out a Walther PPQ at the store a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that is one nice trigger.
 
Full size, steel frame, .45 caliber EAA Witness.... The old style with the squareish slide.
Mine has never so much as hiccupped and is as accurate or more so than any pistol I've ever fired. ~10,000 rounds fired and no worries of cracked slides or frames either! You can go cocked and locked, half cocked and safety on, or hammer down and safety on. Trigger pull is "like butta". I bought mine slightly used in 2003 for $300.

I've read good things about the PPQ, but I wouldn't sell any CZ's for one. Not to mention they are almost as ugly as Glocks, actually maybe even more ugly. Maybe someone should start a poll. :)
