Did you buy one just 'cuz "they" don't want you to?

2, actually.

Mine in the wyndham 5.56 flavor, and the wife got her vepr in .308.

They were planned, the stakes just got raised and we got 'em much sooner than anticipated.

I bought my first AR-15 in 1994 right after they passed the semi-auto ban. I don't even like the AR platform but bought the Bushmaster just for spite.

Back in early '08-yes. After discovering on many gun websites that so many politicians oppose them, simply due to cosmetic features and the politicians' intentionally false rhetoric and deceptive/wrong terminology, along with their hidden ulterior motives etc, this gave them even more appeal.
Affordable centerfire ammo was the most critical factor. That's why I never 'fell' for an M-1A, FAL, PTR-91, later the various FN 49s.

The appearance of the SKS is so similar to the AK, but with better ergonomics, and the SKS cost much less than other centerfire semi-auto sporting rifles.
The fact that lots of pro-Second Amendment Americans allowed themselves to become brain-washed by the Hollywood/leftist mass media propaganda against the AK's looks/image, proves that even many (normally) rational people are swayed by decades of "group think" conditioning.
They seem to have no negative reaction to the sight of a Ruger Mini 30 with a 20-rd. magazine (the same ammo).

How often were movie 'good guys' featured with an AK (maybe VZ-58) or SKS? Maybe my impressions are mistaken.

I had 1 and for some reason I decided I wanted a 2nd one . I bought mine about 2 weeks before the school shooting . Now glad I did as I got mags at same time.

I bought an ebr on Christmas day 2012 (PP). I have since purchased +/- 20 30-round magazines mostly magpul gen m2 from midway for cheap as they were available. The sad part is that since then I have fired the rifle three times. :(

We'll probably have to go through this all over again in 2014 when Hillary tries to take the White House.

How many of you bought an EBR just because of the threatened ban?
Not because of a actual 'threatened ban', but I did get an AK-type semi-auto just prior to the 2008 election.
Been wanting one for many years, figured I'd better get one while I still could. At least I saved some money buying it then.
.

I built an AR pistol as my first firearm for several semi-serious reasons. Stupid ATF laws and regulation, was told Liberals hated them (I'm pretty Liberal, must not be the case), found them to be fun to shoot, reloading bottleneck rifle calibers is easy for me and the fact that Authoritarian Statists dislike them doesn't hurt.

I do enjoy showing folks just how dumb the ATF regs are. So far every non-gunner I've broken them down to agrees that "pistol-rifle-pistol = good" yet "rifle-pistol-rifle = bad" is a dumb rule (if you build a stripped lower as a rifle first, you need to pay $200 and get a Mother May I to have a barrel less than 16" yet if you build it as a 'pistol' you can remove the upper, put on an upper with a 16"+ barrel and then attach a stock w/o any violation as long as you remove the stock first before putting your pistol upper back on).

I didnt. I have never let others tell me what to buy or what to be interested in. I saw no reason to change that because of fools panicing. That said.. I also never felt the AWB had a snowballs chance in hell of passing.

I had slowed down on shooting etc. because life is busy but they pissed me off with all their ignorant and unconstitutional blather so when I found a bushmaster at regular unjacked up price I bought it and a few hundred rounds. It was so much fun I've gotten it a couple of friends. And an XDs 45 because I'd always wanted a little 45.

Yea. A stripped lower and a bunch of mags.

I bought the mags right after the Aurora theater shooting. I told my wife some stupid politician will get on a gun control kick and try to ban standard cap mags and drums. Right after Sandy Hook I bought a lower to build later.

I bought one way before the latest threat was realized. I knew it was coming in some form or another and it would drive prices up. I bought because I wanted a rifle. Pissing off a liberal is just a side benefit.

I am very much afraid that it will be sooner than that!:barf:
My answer to the OP is NO.

I also never felt the AWB had a snowballs chance in hell of passing.

I'm sure a lot of people said that exact phrase in 1993. We got incredibly lucky that there was a sunset clause.

Me? Heck yes I did. I picked up my AR + 28 mags for it (live in CO), so now they're heirlooms until the mag ban is overturned.

Yet ANOTHER argument against the "it won't happen to me, it'll never pass, you're a bunch of suckers" mentality, because-guess what?- it just did for a lot of us.

Amen. They passed that BS in Colorado in SPITE of overwhelming voices against it.

I bought my first 'evil' rifle in 94. We seem to have more activists than we did back then. Keep fighting.

Actually, Magnum, I felt there was a very good chance in 03 for it to pass. The political landscape was different then. They were less adversarial, and actually supported Clinton.

I just picked up my first AR platform rifle, a older model S&W M&P15 Sport, the model with the 1/8 5R 5.56 barrel....

I had no centerfire rifle in the collection, my Win '92 in .44-40 fires a handgun cartridge, the gun is a rifle, yes, but fires a handgun round, plus, at the moment in my area both components for reloads and factory loaded .44-40 ammo are nigh-impossible to find

The Sport fills the "centerfire rifle cartridge" requirement quite handily, and as an added side-benefit, it pisses off the nannystaters, protectionists and other Idiots In Power, especially since it has all the Evil Scary Features like a Pistol Grip, Flash Hider, Bayonet Lug, and Collapsible Stock, as well as the utterly terrifying Thirty Round Magazine!

Thing is, I don't even like AR's, I'm a manual action guy (bolts, levers, pumps, break actions, falling blocks and the like), the AR is too noisy, the buttstock uncomfortable on the cheek, I hate the sproingy noise of the buffer, it's just not ..."me"....

....but it pisses off the bliss ninnies and other idiots, so I love it for what it is, plus, it's good to have on hand for the inevitable Zombie Uprising that we all know is coming, right ;) (ok, I promise, no more zombie talk in this post, was just making a truly lame joke, something I excel at...)

I have no attachment to the Sport, to be honest, I never would have got it, if it wasn't for all the attention the bliss ninnies and idiots in power have paid to it, tell me I can't or shouldn't have something that is perfectly legal to own? Bite me, I'm going to get it anyway now, just 'cause you said I shouldn't

I absolutely did. I bought a Bushmaster stripped lower. I have absolutely zero interest in AR15s. But a LGS owner friend of mine sold me one at pre sandy hook pricing last February. It will probably sit in its little brown bag in the bottom of my safe for the rest of my days. But I would have never bought it if I did not think a ban was possible.

Several... the last time my state was threatening a .50 caliber ban, I bought a S&W .500, a Desert Eagle .50AE, an Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf, and a Barrett M82A1.

This time around, with a .50 ban looming in the next few days, I bought a Bushmaster BA-50.

I really with they'd stop banning stuff... it's getting expensive! :neener:

I didn't even own a handgun until this past January. I've been around guns my whole life but had only ever owned shotguns and rifles. All the talk about gun restrictions prompted me to get off my ass and actually learn how to shoot pistols. I had tried a few times before at the range with my brother and thought it was a good time, but buying a handgun had perennially been on my list of things to do.

Now, in addition to my Mossy, I own a Ruger Single 10, a Beretta M9 with five extra evil 17 round magazines (oh no!) and a closet full of ammunition. Thanks Obama!

I had never really wanted or looked into buying an AR before all the nonsense after Sandy Hook. However, I started doing a lot of research with the intent to buy an AR. I think I looked too long and the "panic buying" mentality faded and I spent my money on what I had wanted for awhile before this....and that was my first wheel gun. i picked up a S&W 686 Competitor instead of an AR. I am VERY glad I didn't impulse buy the AR right away. This is the most accurate handgun (at least with me shooting it) by far of any of my handguns. The only problem now is that my wife likes it as much as me and has all but deemed it her gun at this point.

Sure I've used that as an excuse, In early 2008 I was watching Obama and Hillery debate and ordered my M1a. Shortly after the 2008 election I ordered a M1 carbine from the CMP, made me feel good to sorta be supplied a evil SA rifle by the Govt.
in 2012 I built 2 ARs a M4 clone and a 300 Blackout. somebody offered too much for the M4.

Didn't buy a new gun.
But, did start down the road on other Class 3 items.......
Before they get outlawed......

Lateck,
