Did you buy one just 'cuz "they" don't want you to?

Well No and Yes. I have had AR's since 1969 so the no answer. And I did not go out and buy another. But I did go out and buy a Hi-Point 4095 TS just to have one. And because of the panic a Tactical Shotgun. So I guess you could say yes to your question.

Just like the OP, I was perfectly content with my Mini 14. Always sort of looked at AR's and thought one day I'd try one. Paid about $300 over MSRP for a M&P 15. Nice gun. Like it and don't shoot it much. Got about 1000 rounds of ammo for it. If I'd waited, is have gotten it cheaper. Might not have gotten it at all, and then the next time around I might not have been a me to get one. Not loosing any sleep.

Bought a Saiga and did the conversion when Obama was elected the first time. As demonstrated by 922(r), imports were/are the most vulnerable.

I don't think it would qualify as a panic buy, as I planned on getting one anyway. But the outcome of the election did put it a little higher on my list.

I considered buying an EBR as a result of the "panic" but reason won out since I really don't need one.

I bought a Saiga 7.62x39 and a Springfield XD 45 after Obama was elected and prior to his first inauguration. Shortly after he took office I purchased a Del Ton AR15 rifle kit and a lower receiver to put it all together. For Christmas I had my wife buy a Mossberg 935 for me. I did want those guns but the current Commander in Chief sped up my purchase timeline. I hope to get a semi auto battle rifle soon. His legacy will probably be that he was the greatest firearms salesman of the 21st century.

I had grown tired of my Sig556 Classic and started "sort of wanting" an AR-15 before the panic. When the panic was in full effect, I sold my used Sig556 for $1500 that I paid for it 3 years ago (current MSRP is $1099 with proper swiss stocks and supposedly have all the bugs worked out.)

I took the money (which I was fortunate to recoup in its entirity) and bought a NIB Colt AR-15 with all the Magpul stuff already on it from the factory. I definitely overpaid for the AR... but since I got so much money for the Sig556 Classic it was no different than if I had done it during non-crisis times.

If I had kept the money (from the sale) until now to buy the AR-15, I would have actually pocketed $300 but I am so much happier and had more fun with the Colt over the Sig that it doesn't bother me too much.

I will admit to buying several firearms in the past year simply because of the negative media bias on them. after the batman premiere mess, I told my wife "one more event like this and all we will hear is ban semi automatics" and I promptly went out and bought an AR and a hi capacity 9mm the next week.

Did I need either? not at all. but they were both on the "long list" of firearms I'd want to own, if nothing else just for the sake of having one because I like them.

So the push didn't exactly make my buy something I'd never own, but I bought them right now and not later because of it.

I didn't read any of the comments, so I don't know if I'm one of the few or many, but I bought mine (Ar15) in early Spring because "they" didn't want me to. As did the guy standing in line next to me. We figured if Obama thinks we didn't need one, then we definitely needed one!

Four plus years ago a certain election was about to take place. I saw the writing on the wall and bought a Rock River AR. I had no desire to ever have one but once I got it, I saw what I was missing. The most fun gun I ever owned.

About 9 months ago, I figured it would be a good idea to jump on another one and I did just before a series of events that stood a good chance of making owning one short lived. Another Rock River lower with a bull barrel upper.

Again, another good move and I have to admit, it was a bit of a spit in yer' eye purchase.

I actually gave my brother and dad AKs because they where gonna run out and buy EBRs and I didnt want them throwing money away with panic prices. Bought 2 back when they where $250 each.

Yea Mousegun, I'm having a ball now too. Didn't know what I was missing or i would've started this a long time ago.

I bought my AR the Monday or Tuesday after Obama was re-elected knowing that something was going to threaten our gun right, but I thought it was going to political trading to get something done rather than a mass panic started by a tragedy.

Bought my AK during the Million Mom March hype. Had no intention of buying one but walked into the LGS, saw it on the wall, and thought, "The Mom's would really want me to have this".

I did the opposite. I bought a couple of guns that "they" presumably would approve of as a hedge against draconian legislation and the desire to remain well armed in the face of it, as unlikely as it now seems to be. "Normal" capacity bolt actions in calibers not as prone to panic buying (so I'd hoped). Both very nice additions to my safe and both well worth owning regardless of the times. Much pride in ownership for me as well so while stimulated by then current events, not exactly "reactionary" purchases either.

Yup, but several scares ago. I got tired of buying guns/receivers because of banics and just rode this last one out (I have too many from previous banics anyway).

Who else bought only because they didn't want you too?

Not me.

I already owned AR's, pistols, and shotguns even before this last panic. I was sitting on a few AR's and mags when the threat of gun control was proposed in January, and everyone ran out and bought all the guns/ammo they can get their hands on.

Its a bad decision to buy an EBR during a panic. Either buy one before, or wait til it settles down.

Last month I finally bought one of my dream rifles, a Colt6920 at Walmart for $1097. People were paying upwards of $2k for this rifle during the panic. I waited patiently for demand to settle down and saved up my $$ instead of plunking on one for $3k on Gunbroker in March.

I am considering buying a new stock for one that will have artistic renderings of the major anti-gun politicians depicted in quality detail. I will consider naming it "Feinbloom-bama"

Who else bought only because they didn't want you too?

Not me. Never. I buy what I want and do my best to ignore the gubmit as long as I can. I did buy an SKS right before the AWB but that was because it was cheap and so was the ammo. I did buy some mags because I thought they wouldn't be available after a while. But I didn't do it just because they didn't want me to. I bought them because I wanted a good supply of mags and the thought they might go away made me buy several. And yes I converted that SKS and it has worked almost perfectly through thousands of rounds. I probably haven't had a single malfunction caused by the gun. I say that because I've had a few but IMO they were almost certainly ammo issues or issues caused by me modifying the rifle. When I switched back to the original configuration it worked perfect again. And when I ran out of the bad ammo I didn't have any more problems either.

Felt the urge to buy an AR because I had so little faith in the parties abilities to uphold our rights, but managed to hold off. Since I feel sufficiently armed with my 30-30, the knee-jerk reaction wasn't overwelming. Stupid pricing helped too, as well as the fact that I can still get 30-30 round.

I didn't.

I sure sold a lot to people who did, though. December-January was a flood, and a LOT of those people were telling me outright that they were buying them because "the government doesn't want us to have them". Many of these were first time buyers. Some went from 0 to 2+ in the span of a month.

My now, most accurate, gun, eva is an old Winchester bolt action .22. I bought it on the last day of high-cap (standard) in PR of ct. It took a couple hours with all the EBRs everyone was buying. Now I am not able to get one even thou I changed my mind about liking them, after shooting a few. I really can hit with a pistol grip for some reason.
