Did you buy one just 'cuz "they" don't want you to?

Yes. I got a Ruger 10/22 with three 25-round magazines in light of the recent talk about an AWB. In the previous panic I got a Ruger SR9c with two extra 17-round magazines.

And in the previous panic before that, got a 686+.

Seems like there's a pattern.

I was drifting toward an AR then Obama got re-elected and I bought my Colt. After Sandy Hook I bought 2000 rds of .223 and extra 30 rd mags just before those turned to gold.

....and yes it gives me some satisfaction to occasionally use my hard earned money to give antis the finger.

Yes. In 2013, I've bought 2 rifles (AR & Vepr) and 4 pistols. That's more than the average year, and all due to the environment.

I did. At least, I suppose that is as good a reason as any why I bought it.
I have never owned a 9mm handgun and never really felt the need to. I've always been a .45 caliber guy. I have four of them, three 1911 types and a Colt SAA. But when all the anti-gun hysteria started up again earlier this year I remembered back to the other ban on hi-cap mags, certain types of guns, etc., and the idea of getting a 9mm with a couple of 15 rnd. mags seemed like a good idea.

So when I ran across several good reviews on the Canik 55 9mm C.100, and I saw the price, I moved on it. Grabbed one at the local Academy before the price jumped, or before the anti's got some kind of a ban ran through.

For the price ($329+TTL) it's a really well-built gun. And TWO Mec-Gar 15 rnd mags make it well worth the money, if it shoots. Had it two months and haven't been to the range yet.:uhoh:

Not exactly... But I bought my Mini 14 during the runup to the AWB in the 1990s partially because I wanted a .223 and partially because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get one if I waited. Of course, it turned out to be woefully inaccurate so I sold it last year.

I've got a small box of parts now that are going to be parts of an AR15 sometime soon; earlier this year I was watching the legislation to see if maybe I was going to need a bunch more parts a lot sooner than expected...

sent using CPIP (see RFC 1149)

hso: Maybe you could add to your word for the anxiety about a planned 'ban', with the correct vowel added to the front. It is followed by an apostrophe (like an Irish name) and a substitute for the letter 'n', it would help explain the overwhelming primary motivation behind the planned bans.

That's why I finally got an AR after the prices came back down. I can't believe I didn't do it during one of the past threats to our gun rights, but it took me a long time to warm up the the AR platform.

By the time the panic happened I already owned 4 AR's along with 3 AK's and an SKS (as far as the 'scary' rifles are concerned) so I just focused on mags (if I could get them for regular prices). I did pick up a 2nd SKS just because the price was right but I guess I would have done that anyway.
Only thing I came close to was buying Glock mags at about $10 more per mag but I stopped myself. :D

I already had an AR, but I did pick up a couple of accessories for my Glock 19. I have no practical use for them, but the picture of my assault pistol drives my liberal coworkers insane.

As a life long law abiding shooter and collector who lives in California I can say that we have been down this road before. I did a lot of 'panic' buying back in the late 1980s after Bush one (yes....Bush) and Clinton, along with several California State politicians brought us a Statewide AW Ban. This was about 5 years before the 1994 Federal Assault Weapon Ban (that barely expired in 2004).

Nothing expired in California and following the Law, I did Register 11 so named Assault Weapons (ARs AK, HK, Mac, Uzi, etc.etc)

Learning from history I decided to stock up (slowly, over the years) on three specific categories related to future bans and government regulation:

1. America's favorite rifle, the AR 15. I own several and my 4 adult children also own several. If you're not a big fan of the AR platform at least get yourself a couple of stripped Lowers and shove them in the Safe.

2. You can never own too many normal (call high capacity) magazines.

3. The same for ammo. We bought more over the years. Ammo is always a good investment. Here in California we are constantly fighting new proposed laws like a per bullet ammo tax, a ban on mail order Internet sales, ammo ID cards, limits on quantity and reporting to Police if someone buys over a certain amount.

So when this latest gun panic happened, I didn't have to buy anything.

Been there, done that.

Be well, Bob

I don't own an AR because I have just really never wanted one, but now that "they" hate them I'm going to get one when I have the money.
