Favorite "gun" scene in a movie?

Clint Eastwood in Magnum Force when he shoots the cop target to get a message across.

Shootout at OK Corral, in Tombstone. Well. Bye.

The gun fight in Appaloosa. Three bad guys killed, both good guys down. "That was fast." "Everybody knew what they were doing."

I am partial to the scene in "Quigley Down Under" when he is stood up "in front of my old pistol target".....Quigley pulls off his glove, flexes his wounded hand and says, "well, this ain't Dodge City.....and you ain't Bill Hickok", then proceeds to kill the bad-guys.

From a TV show: an episode of Hill Street Blues. Dennis Franz, as Det. Norman Buntz, has rolled up on a scene. Two uniforms (Officers Bobby Hill and Andy Renko) have cornered a junkie who had absconded with a cooler from a crashed ambulance, a cooler which contains a human heart being transported for transplant. The junkie is demanding money for the heart's safe return.

The dialogue goes, as I remember, like this:

PTL Hill: "There's a man in desperate need of that organ. If he doesn't get it, he's gonna die!"

Det. Buntz, (as he approaches and draws his .38 snub): "Is this our man? Is this him?"
He then tells "Dr. Hill and Dr. Renko" to "get your masks and gowns on; looks like we're gonna have to operate!"
The junkie threatens to open the cooler and slash the heart with a knife he's holding, saying "I'm the one who's gonna operate. Then you don't get no heart!"

Det. Buntz replies: "Listen, pal, if that heart don't make it, I'm gonna blow your freakin' head off and we're gonna use yours! You got that!?" (turning to Hill and Renko, he continues "get that medical kit out of my car; I got a scalpel in there.!"

He begins to count backwards from two, adding to Hill and Renko to "Get ready. When he goes down, we're not gonna have much time!"

The junkie then drops the cooler and runs.

No shots fired, but cool dialogue to me.

"You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?"

"Well Mr. Carpetbagger...we got something in this territory, called the Missouri boat ride."

Every scene in The Way of the Gun, which I believe someone's already mentioned. My favourite of the movie would have to be the "Move, moving" scene, where no shots were actually fired.

The gun fighting choreography was done by an ex-SEAL, quite evident through the movement and tactics.

Yep. Probably among the best extended shootouts I've seen in any movie. If you check the behind the scenes footage for Heat, you'll see that all those guys went through some serious firearms training (with real life experts) before "shooting" (heh) that scene.

I also think some of the scenes in Equilibrium...with the gun katas they did...were very cool

"Open Range" Kevin Costner Robert Duvall
It may have some problems, but it is none the less a great shootout.

Also "Unforgiven," but the scene where Ned couldn't pull the trigger.

The Matrix has a great shootout, no doubt!

But has no one seen Django Unchained? The final shootout is totally over-the-top. Probably the most insane shootout in any movie I can think of. And surprisingly, no one fires more than 6 shots from any revolver.

Outlaw Josey Wales. Two guys have the drop on him. He slowly pulls his Walkers butt first, then executes the spin n' shoot, I believe it is what is known as a "road agent spin", takes 'em both down. Made me want to learn to do it. Really not that hard. I still rewind and rewatch that scene.

Similarly in Dead Man, when William Blake comes on the two lawmen searching for him, his SAA dangling by the trigger guard. "You William Blake?" "Do you know my poetry?" Then flips up and shoots. Different spin, but equally effective. Good movie, if a little slower pace than your average western.

Whoa! How could I forget one of the most iconic?!? Raiders of the Lost Ark. Cairo Swordman scene. 'Nuff said.

Also of note is the scene in Breaking Bad wherein Walter White is buying a gun from Lawson, played by Jim Beaver. The conversation, along with the advice, seemed unusually spot on for a television show, even though specifics elude me at the moment. Maybe I just find Jim Beaver credible.

My favorite isn't a shootout.....from Terminator 2 -

The Terminator and John Conner pull back the door leading to an underground room. They walk in, and pull down a dusty sheet revealing an entire wall of AK's, M16s, M60s, Dragunovs etc etc. Arnold grabs a grenade launcher, pops it open and then closes it, and says "excellent".

He then walks to the end of the room, picks up a minigun, and turns to look back at John. John says "that's definitely you".

For me the best gun movies where the Boon Dock Saints films. For westerns I would say Quigley Down Under and his sharps rifle. As for down right ridiculous would be a grade D horror flick called Komodo vs Cobra with their never guns (Beretta 92) that have magazine where the bullets never run out.

The opening to Grosse Point Blank is great! Love Dan Akroid with the two 629 PC's

Yep, Tom Cruise with the thugs in Collateral.

Leon in Blade Runner. "My mother?...... Let me tell you about my mother."

Roy breaking Harrison Fords fingers and then giving him his gun back in Blade Runner.

Dr. Gonzo waving his .357 around in the convertible and attempting to shoot it in the air in the begining of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Jonny Depp shooting the same .357 in random directions at nothing, out of frustration, in Fear and Loathing.

John Malkovich holding the 460 mag on the spy in the airport in RED. "She has a camera in her bag..... I'm gonna kill her now......"

Always loved when Vasquez runs out of rifle ammo in the vents in Aliens, ditches the rifle, and pulls out a BHP. She then pins an alien's head to the wall with her boot, and shoots it in the head like six times at point blank range.

Boondock Saints -- when they drop through the ceiling, and also when they trade the stolen Russian guns and jewelry for their small arsenal

Blackhawk Down -- when the small team redeployed at night and they have the cover of darkness and their NVGs to give them the advantage.

Casino -- in the end when they start eliminating all the witnesses. Not much of a shoot out, but a cool scene with a lot of nice pistols with supressors and mafia hitmen

I always liked this one from the boondock saints. Starting at about 4:15.

I don't know if it is my favorite, that would take awhile to settle on, but there are a number of good scenes in Equilibrium.

In particular, the final one-on-one gun fight is a very different take on a close quarters gun fight. Not particularly realistic, it is sci-fi, but fun.

Lots of Clint Eastwood here. My favorite of all time was in High Plains Drifter, the barbershop scene.

Mine is the last shootout in SCARFACE where he is upstairs on the balcony shooting everyone downstairs and then gets a shot with a shotgun from behind and falls into his little fountain.
