What's your favorite movie/TV show gun battle scene?

The Patriot - Scene where he rescues his son from the Brits with the help of his younger sons
And all the much better because kids with guns defending themselves drove the anti-gunners absolutely out of their minds at the time! :D

PS - The last gunfight in "What's Up Tigerlily", one of the funniest movies ever not made by the guy who made it. A bunch of Japanese guys with fake .32 autos. The hero actually pulls the magazine of his pistol to see how much ammunition he has left. Some of them were probably in the war. "It's Wing fool, you Fat... I mean Wing Fat, you fool!" :D

Best?

Dunno if it was the best - but had a couple of good lines in it - the final gunfight in "The Replacement Killers"

ie Gang Leader: The boy will die John, and your family too!
Chow Yun Fat: Not in YOUR lifetime! (BANG!)

a few that have not been mentioned ;no country for old men(short but sweet),spartan(the beach house) the salton sea(the kennedy asassination recreated with pidgens, the endng)millers crossing(the failed hit on the boss)

There are some good and bad ones here but no one has mentioned any of John Woo's movies. The 2 best to start with are The Killer and Hard Boiled. Both have tremendous endings and the opening in Hard Boiled in the teahouse is amazing.

Theres a bunch of westerns-Open range, true grit, lawman, the gunfighter, the proffessionals, valdez is coming,)

Zulu was awesome at the end when they were firing in ranks

I thought battleground was really good as well as saving private ryan and we were soilders

Deanimator: It was a flash back as seen from the other side (Viet Minh took the pictures!) They were the only ones alive to do so, I remember listening to the news on the radio about the French in Indochina and especially the Dienbienphu ordeal. That book is available in used book stores and it was reversed when they printed the negative, happened often in the 'old days'.

No one has mentioned "The Lady from Shanghai", a 1948 film noir starring Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth (what's not to like?).

Toward the end of the movie is the famous "Shootout in the Hall of Mirrors", with spectacular 'black & white' cinematography depicting the desperation, the frustration, the futility inherent in trying to identify the real target.

They broke more mirrors than you'll find in the average Nieman-Marcus!

How about in Glory when the 54th sees their first action, specifically to see their reactions when they realize the Rebs are coming back and the battle had really just begun?

I don't know, but something about that scene is always just eerie to me...I think it has to do with how they used sound in the filming.

I like any of the gun play in Miami Vice where Crockett and Tucker can shoot it out in close combat within houses with impenetrable sheet rock walls.

I'd have to say We Were Soldiers takes the cake (the whole movie is one big gun battle), followed closely by the scene in Band of Brothers where they take the 4 guarded 88mm guns in Normandy on D-day or the next day.

But honorable mentions go to the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan, the last scene in Way of the Gun, and end of Open Range.

Kellys Heroes

When they are crossing the river, and pretty much the entire battle in the town with the bank at the end.

How about a recent SciFi movie, Serenity?

You know the scene near the end where the crew of Serenity are fighting off the Reavers.

The space battle before that was pretty good also.

The TV series, Firefly, had some good fight scenes also

I really like the part in the original pilot, Serenity, when Mal shoots the Alliance agent. It's not the kind of thing you expect to see in a TV/movie shootout. There's no "stop or I'll shoot," no warning whatsoever. Mal shoots him in the head without batting an eyelash or breaking stride.

Near the end of Zulu, when they start singing Men of Harlech

Here it is:

It's an amazing scene. "ZULU" remains one of the greatest war movies ever made. It could never be made again, not with that cast o' thousands. This is one of my own favorite scenes from it, showing what "archaic" rifles can do in the hands of trained troops:

It was all true, as well. The Zulus had destroyed an entire regiment-size force prior to attacking the fort, so they weren't messing around.

That's the best battle scene in "Glory" as far as I'm concerned. Most civil war movies, including "Gettysberg" and the prequel, look like a filmed reenactment because that's essentially what they are.

FYI, if you liked "Open Range" you should check out Walter Hill's overlooked 1980 film "The Long Riders." It was a bleak, realistic Western before bleak, realistic Westerns were cool. Here's the Northfield shootout from that film, which is quite a bit different from the one theotherwaldo was in:
