I was watching the last gun battle scene of Rambo (2008 - HIGHLY recommend it) and, at the same time, listening to the commentary. Stallone wanted to be as real as possible regarding what a .50 cal can do to human flesh. Brute force! I enjoyed that part and got my heart pumping!

So besides my Rambo encounter, what's everyone's favorite gun battle scene?

Name the movie and what scene was it on.

Edit:
What qualifies as a "gun battle"?

It can be as close to realistic, memorable/unforgetable-impactful or flat out entertaining.

The battle scene at the beginning of Saving Private Ryan it's like 20 minutes long. Pair that up with my surround sound in DTS.....unbelivable:D

Most parts (especially the first 30 mins) of Saving Private Ryan, with a big screen and the surround sound cranked way up, hearing bullets and shells sailing over your head. Although that's more of a war scene than a gun battle scene I 'spose.
Also the usual suspects like Heat, Way of the Gun, 3000 miles to Graceland was great for beta-c magazine fans :)

The gunfight at the end of OPEN RANGE,which btw is my absolute fav. movie

+1 .. even If maybe the colt SAA fanning was too much to be realistic..

(I am not a big fan of Silverado.. too "hollywood" for my tastes)

most of the Eastwood gunfights in Outlaw Josey Wales

otherwise i LOVED the HEAT robbery gunfight-

also, most of Black Hawk Down battle scenes

The gunfight at the end of OPEN RANGE

Yep, that one is pretty good - probably my favorite.

Oh, and about the entire film Black Hawk Down!

I love it in the new Rambo when he quick draws his pistol and takes out the pirates before they can raise their weapons.

When is Johnny going to learn that you DON"T TRUST PIRATES :cuss:??? Doesn't he remember the trouble he had with them earlier in Rambo: First Blood Part II?

I can beat everyone of yours.

The best Gun Scene EVER, was in Miami Vice. Watch the clip, the guy was an IPSC shooter at the time who was playing an assassin. Watch his cross draw.

The actor is Jim Zubienna. He was a past member of the US Team to the IPSC World shoot, as I recall. He shot the Bianchi Cup and Steel Challenge matches as well. I don't think we actually had a Grand Master rating at that time, but Jim likely would have qualified.

He told me later, after the airing of the program, that the director knew nothing of his shooting background, and that he was to go through the motions of the draw and shoot, and that the scene would be edited for speed. After seeing Jim draw and shoot, the director asked him how he did that!

The smokestack jam was not in the script. Jim cleared it on instinct and then placed the gun on the "body" as an adlib, but one that was left in.

If you note Jim's hands up position upon his surrender in the film clip, it is very similar to the position he used in competition. A theory among many of the shoooters then was that you would have one hand out in front, approximately where the front sight would be to allow the eyes to be focused at that distance. Thus, when the gun came up, the eyes were ready.

+1 on the beach landing from saving private ryan +1 on the rambo .50 (gotta love that round) also some of the battle scenes from we were soldiers .

I think some of the most realistic battle scenes I've seen were in "Gettysburg" I think they got a bunch of reenactors to play the troops. they were doing things like bumping their rifles on the ground to settle the powder and you could see them actually loading the weapons (sans ball of course)

Near the end of Zulu, when they start singing Men of Harlech.

"At one hundred yards, volley fire!!! (pause) PRESENT!!!"

I've never seen this movie (Tremors)
 Oh man, you gotta see that movie.

Hmm, pretty much all of "Way of the Gun"....That scene in "Rambo" (the latest one) where he aces 4 guys in like 2 seconds with his 1911....you gotta include the "Yo homie, is that my briefcase?" scene too.

The "Yo Homie is that my briefcase?" scene in Collateral was terrific.

The scene in Open Range when played in theaters during the early releases had the most realistic gunfire sounds I have ever heard in a movie. They were SO loud that some folks walked out. They were not quite as loud as the real thing but closer then any movie I have ever seen.

As for best gunfights.

-Heat bank robbery
-Way of the gun (Loved the snubby revolver and speed loaders)
-SPR and BOB both have some great moments
-God I hate to admit this one.......Live Free Or Die Hard the beginning scene where he first meets the kid. (Let me splain.....I went with a bunch of folks and everybody kept saying come on, like he would have that many magazines on him. I chuckled and said If you were John McClain wouldn't you have that much ammo.?)

The nightclub scene from Collateral

That's a pretty good shootout with a decent mag change as well. The shootout at the end of the Miami Vice remake was good-to-go, and I think Leo DiCaprio did well at the end of Blood Diamond. Controlled pairs from the AK that he was using, and good overall realism throughout the many good firefights in that one.

Every scene in band of brothers where a bullet whizzes by and sounds like a big bug
