I am looking to trade for an HK P30 with less then as 100 rounds through it. Comes with 2 mags, box papers etc. it looks like an excellent pistol. The reviews that I have read races about it. But I'd like to get your guys opinions on it. I've always been under the impression that an H&K is just about the pinical of current polymer framed auto loaders. Just that you have to pay dearly for them. What do you all think? Oh and it's chambered in 9mm

HK makes fantastic guns in general, but yes, you do pay for them. Whether or not it is worth it is up to you. Do your research on value to make sure you get a decent trade price. I have an HK45 and really like it, and it has been trouble free so far, but I have not been able to shoot much as of late.

I started this thread awhile ago. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=750858

You may want to read on through it. One of the things I find very comforting as an HK owner is that the company has an excellent rep for customer service. Every gun will break eventually with enough use, but HK seems to take care of their customers. I don't think you'd regret owning one in general.

Good luck.

I am certainly no expert but I did handle one at a Gander Mountain in PA. I told the sales guy that I had "plastic gun allergy"....cracked him up. I told him I am a CZ 75b fan (got a glossy blue one finally last week), and he told me he had just the gun for guys like me (and him) than don't like plastic. He pulled out the P30S and gave it to me. I will cut to the chase and tell you I have one on my wish list. The feel of quality was unmistakable and the grip was fantastic. I realize that both sides and back panel can be changed but it just felt right and it felt solid. The level of internal finish was also impressive. Having not shot one yet I can't advise on that but from what I saw it was an impressive gun. I have seen them for $850, which was allot better and GM and their price of $1,050. I will get one eventually. Good luck with yours.

Well I did it. I traded a NIB S&W model 69 44 magnum for it. Straight across. One of the reasons I feel good about it is because I have two other 44 mags that suit my needs much better. I won't be able to make it to the range for a couple of weeks. But I am pleased.

Best ergos of any pistol out there.
Sigma like trigger. Horrible pull and reset.
Sold it after a year of not being able to hit consistantly with it.

I've only shot a couple of them and handles about 3 more, but I must admit that that they likely have the best ergos out there.

While the trigger is much improved over that of the USP, it is certainly nothing to brag about. It has the characteristic H&K mushiness. Luckily this can be address by a couple of very good custom pistolsmiths

I really, really, really wanted to like the P30L I purchased. In short, the damn thumb safety sits too far back on the frame. It really rubs the web of my hand the wrong way.

Take a close look at that detail, and/or consider getting a model with the LEM trigger (no thumb safety)

This is just the standard 30 model so it doesn't have a thumb safety. Just the de-cocker on the rear left of the slide. It feels great in the hand. But I'll know if it's a keeper once I get it to the range.

Congrats on your P30!

I have a P30LS and just adore it. It is DA/SA and after about 500 rounds now the SA is SWEET and the DA is perfectly acceptable. No problem having the safety for me plus I get the short slide release lever with the safety version. My P30LS is a very soft shooter and a joy to shoot.

I tried LEM and it is fine but not for me. I own more than a few SIGs which are my favorites as far as hammer fired so I am very used to the DA/SA trigger system. I prefer the long and heavy first trigger pull OR I can carry cocked and locked if I want.

My P30LS and HK45 (another really fantastic pistol) almost look like twins.

I poo-poohed H&K hype until I shot a P30. Now I want one. But I'm too cheap to pay H&K prices.

You might be interested in the new HK VP9 then. The expected street price is around $600 and probably less at online vendors. It is striker fired with reported a very nice triger but many think of it as a striker fired P30. It is supposed to be out later this summer.

My wife has a pair of HK P30 pistols in 9x19. It was the pistol that made her set aside her S&W M65-5. She loves the pistol in the LEM configuration, and she shoots it quite well with the small back strap and side panels installed. The exposed hammer is nice for holstering. If the hammer moves while the gun is going into the holster, there is an issue with the trigger. Much easier to holster than the Glock.

The only negatives I can think of are magazines are a bit expensive, limited choices for sights with tritium inserts, the right side slide release lever is a bit loose, and it is hard to detail strip. It may look like a Glock in the general sense, but it has quite a few more parts. Field stripping is about the same.

I have had 3 of them. LEM 1, LEM 2, and SA/DA. They are tough, rugged, and accurate. I never had a failure of any kind. I don't have them anymore because I couldn't adjust to the trigger. I shoot mostly 1911s and striker fired pistols now. If I shot with the p30 for a little while I could get the hang of the triggers, but everytime I put them away and got them back out the learning curve started all over. With all of that said, if I could only have one gun it would be H&K P30. I believe it was built for durability and dependability.

Very well made pistol and I agree that the LEM is the way to go. You can convert if the model you are getting does not come with it.

I have been carrying and shooting a P30 V2 LEM 9mm exclusively for the last 2-1/2 years and average 500 rounds a month. It has been completely trouble free with one failure to feed in that time due to a faulty cartridge.

The triggers are not as easy to use as a 1911 or striker design but they are consistent, and become nice and smooth with shooting.

The P30 is the finest 9mm currently made by anyone.

Amen.

I was shooting a P30 along with a USP and a Walther PPQ last Saturday. Three excellent pistols in anyone's book. IMHO, the P30 trumps all.

Enjoy your "new" pistol. Good trade.

I have the H&K P30 V3 (no safety) and it is one more fine shooting pistol. I handled one at my local range and from that I knew I would have to have one. It is now one on my main carry weapons, only wish I could have gotten it in 40. You will not be sorry if you get one.

I am looking at the LEM light 9mm vs the striker fired model about to come out.
The LEM 3.5 lb trigger is the way to go on this pistol, a nice consistent 3.5 lbs. all the time. I don't like DA/Sa triggers although had to put up with them before, I like the new striker from what I read, but not the trigger on the primary shot.
For me it's worth a hundred extra just for that, Buds $815, and the new one will probably go for over 7+, for the first year, like the "glocks", so it's no big deal, moneywise
So it's not that far off to get what you really want rather than what they give you as standard. I like the same trigger pull all of the time.
