Opinions of the Springfield Armory XD's

I have guns from all over the world. You'd be quite limited if you only bought USA made/owned guns!

The XD line is excellent. And that's a good price. Snap it up.

My son's duty weapon is an XDm. Why the XDm? Our local, small gun shop owner took over an hour to fit the right size and feel gun to my son's hand. He changed out the back straps on an S&W M&P, an XDm, and a latest generation Glock. For my son's particular hand size, the XDm fit the best and was most comfortable. It also pointed the best - FOR HIM. So the XDm was the one.
I am certain the other handguns were fine and of high quality. It is just that one brand fit better than the others. He has the XD sub compact for a backup.

For me, nothing feels more comfortable than a 1911 grip, except perhaps, for a CZ75B that also feels great. The XDm comes in a close 2nd. Again, that is for me.

I used the XDM 40 compact as a duty gun, but went to my XD 9 subcompact for my plain clothes assignment. I simply shot the smaller 9mm better. Now I'm into an FNX-40 since moving back into uniform.. I traded the XDM for the FNX and I haven't looked back. The XD9sc is still an off-duty gun, and I trust my life to it off-duty, but the FNX is a better in-uniform full size duty gun.

Surprised LE agencies are authorizing XD's and FNX's for duty. Presuming the agencies being referenced are city/county/state LE agencies....

My son's XDm was authorized by a county sheriff's department and now a suburban police force.

Why? The SIG Pro was the issued gun of a bunch of agencies...the FNX is at least as good as the SIG Pro.

The Baltimore County and Columbia SC PDs both issue the FNS.

We are a County agency with a great alternate weapon policy. A Glock will be issued unless you prefer to use your own pistol. Once the firearms committee inspects it and you qualify with it you can carry it. All maintenance is on the owner.

Weird. I've never handled an XD, including the XD40 Duty I owned, that had a stiff mag release. My guess is that it will loosen up with use, but I'm not sure what the reason is behind it in the first place.

Yeah, that's odd. I use my trigger finger to activate the mag release, myself.

I would say "how odd" as well, with one exception. When a completely full mag is loaded in my xDM (18 or 19 rds) there's enough spring pressure that the mag release is pretty stiff. I usually press the button and the give the mag a little upward bump with my support hand and the mag pops right out.

Might be what HRN is seeing, or might not be.

My Xdm (3.8" barrel, .40 S&W) doesn't have any delay with the mag popping out. Everything about that gun works perfectly except for that loose nut behind the grip.

I like my XD9 from 2007. It has more rounds than I can count. Never had a failure. It is also very accurate. It shoots very well. I prefer the .45 over the 9mm, but my wife wanted the 9mm so we bought that.
I load 147 grain +P+ from Underwood, and the gun performs flawless. It will also shoot 125 grain Conical Nose Hard Lead with Unique powder and CCI primers. I use to carry this as a woods gun, and have killed hogs with it using those 125 grain hard lead bullets.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Croatia made polymer pistol. Do I like it better than my Turkish made 1911? No. But I will not part with it because it holds 16+1, and like I mentioned never a failure, and handles the 147 grain +P+ from Underwood just fine. The average fps is 1185 with that round from the 4" XD9.

The mag release is stellar on my 2007 XD9 Service 4" model. I have close to 5000 rounds through the gun on estimation, and it will loosen up. When I bought my Bersa Thunder 380 "Combat" model (enter laughs here) I could barely get the mag out, but upon 100 rounds of firing and loading it is now perfect.
I think you will be very happy with the XD models.

4 different XD guns. Nothing but good things to say about them. The XDs growing pains hurt bit, but I'm confident in them now.

I have 3 XDs and if I get another automatic pistol it'll be another XD. I'm thinking about getting an XDs(9), XD40SC or maybe and XD357.

I've been carrying an XD45 Compact daily for a whole bunch of years. It's a fantastic handgun that I shoot exceptionally well. It's right at the 11,000 round mark and has never failed to function in any way. I've put every brand and style of ammo I could find through it and nothing phases it. It cannot be limp wristed, even with low powered ammo and a loose one finger grip. The magazine release is a little stiff with a fully loaded mag, but down a round I can easily drop the mag with my trigger finger or thumb without changing my grip. With a full magazine I have to use my thumb, which is what I train to do anyway.

I see bore axis as a matter of personal preference. I don't like low bore axis .45s for the same reason I don't like any .40: They beat the crap out of the 2nd joint in my right thumb, which I injured badly in my 20s. Higher bore axis guns are softer shooting, with significantly lower felt recoil. Many people that have fired my XD say it's the softest shooting .45ACP they've ever fired. If I put four magazines through a 1911 I'm done shooting handguns for the day and can't hold a pencil to write the next day. I've put 400 rounds through my XD in less than an hour and my thumb wasn't even sore the next day. It's all about what works best for the individual shooter.

I had an XD45 for a while and I really wanted to like it. The biggest gripe I had with it was the trigger. While it was crisp the reset was too long. It would reset well past the break point so after the trigger broke you had to release about 3/4 of the way then take up the slack again to the break point further back. I didn't find it very conducive to accurate shooting. I had to concentrate much harder to get a good follow up shots than I did with my M&Ps.

I have owned 4, now just two as I traded two of them for other XDs. I love both my XDm9 and my XDs .45. Both have served me very well.

My XDm mag release can be stiff with a full mag, but not horribly so.
