M14 in Afghanistan

That is the perfect role for the M14 or FAL. Both are too clunky and heavy for the average soldier.

Only real men should have them.:D

Here's another that was posted here a while back. I want an ACOG on mine!

I know the ACOG is a durable scope, but I have heard a lot of complaints about scope mounts on M1A/M14s.

I wonder...............

I thought the Army currently uses Brookfield Precision scope mounts for their M-14. Anybody know any different?

artherd,

You can see the thumbscrews of the TA51 mount on the RHS of the rifle in that picture. From the length, it is a TA11, most likely one of the two sub-models with the .308 reticle.

I was in the 2/27 Wolfhounds from '98-'00, the M14's are carried by the Sniper Scouts of the Scout platoon, Headquarters Company.

SodaPop,
There are a lot of complaints about M1A mounts, but I am willing to bet the majority of these relate to the Springfield mount or another generic knock off.

The Brookfield and the ARMS are very good mounts for the M1A.

SnakeEater - do the Wolfhounds still make "dumdum" bullets? ;) OK, that's a story from way back. If you ever get a chance, read "Some Even Volunteered." It's by a Wolfhound officer who served in 'Nam and I think you will enjoy it very much.

What I meant to say in my earlier statement was that the M14's were carried by our Sniper Spotters and at the time no optics of any kind were used. Gary I'll take your recommendation and read that book, thank you.

Mike
