Artofgolf asked "Have you found a better alternative for mounting optics & retaining the folding feature?"

I haven't installed anything, because whatever you put on top will take away the folding aspect. I guess you could put a laser or light under the barrel if that's your thing. I consider it a short range gun, and I'm happy with it as is.

Although a longer trigger pull would be nice.

The only reason I was considering the Sub2K was magazine interchangeability with the P11 I plan on getting and my S&W 469. I'll probably have an easier time of finding a Marlin camp carbine 9mm, with also uses S&W 59 series mags.

The folding option of the Kel Tec is a bonus, but an unnecessary one.

I'll quit hijacking the thread now.
As long as you find one in ANY configuration other than Glock. You can call up KT and get the mag catch you want.
That's all that's needed to switch between the Sig, 92, & 59 series mags.

Don't keep your search limited to strictly the 59.

The Glock version can only ever take the Glock mags.

Good to know. Just ran a quick search and actually found a few S&W 59 series S2Ks on there. Cheapest one was $375, which was very reasonable. Now I'm just going to have to convince the wife, which is the greater hurdle.

I recently ordered & received the Gen 2 after convincing my better half that it would be a great Father's Day gift & she could spend an equal amount on what she wanted. Worked like a charm ......:D

Looking around last night @ MidwayUSA, I found a new Magpul M-Lok attachment that, IMHO, would facilitate mounting a red-dot & the carbine will still fold ;)

Magpul M-LOK Offset Rail Light/Optic Mount
Aluminum Black Product #: 142197

Update: Mount arrived today & installed

Had another pic with the fore position grip; limited to 4 images

Anyway, the STRIKE Industries Cobra fore-grip positioned up front followed by 2 Magpul segments to complete the lower-rail outfitting

The Magpul AFG will be integrated later....;)

Bought an S2K/9mm set up for Beretta mags from a shooting buddy. Called Kel-Tec customer service to buy a SIG mag catch so I could use 20-rd. SWAT mags in the little carbine. Two days later it was in my mailbox, and at no cost. Took me all of one minute to make the substitution.

What a fun little carbine! And as a trunk gun to back up a P228 or P229 carry piece, it is near perfect. Going to have to get a Gen2 now; adding an inexpensive laser will make it another plinking or indoor range champion.

George Kelgren is a design genius.

Thanks for posting your experience with KT. I'm of the same opinion ~ I think the S2K is a great choice for a truck gun.
The Gen 2 has a few design & materials improvements from the Gen 1 model that appealed to me. I'm having a lot of fun workin' on mine to get it the way I want it.

Someone asked why the folding was needed, my 40 cal version slides right in an old gym bad with a mag pouch easily. A little heavy. :)

Seeing this thread, I either need to buy parts or a new gun. :D

Along this line, some parts are starting to arrive. Replacement trigger from Aztac came in today's mail.

The stock trigger is made of a polymer that flexes too much for me. The aluminum replacement will be much better, IMO.
The grip/trigger housing is impact modified glass reinforced Zytel ~ a huge improvement over the material used in the Gen 1 model.

cdnn has them
Just checked CDNN; Out-of-stock

Moving along with the project, I thought I would post an excerpt from the specifications page of the manual.

The unloaded weight (no magazine) is 4.25 lbs.

With all the accessories added so far, the current weight is 4.4 lbs.
My goal is to keep it under 5.5 lbs. with all mods

I'm driving over to Grainger tomorrow to pick-up a strap wrench.
The collar (castle nut) has to be removed to separate the two-halves of the grip for trigger installation

never liked kel-tec's products, something just feels cheap about them. i did look into this gun though, looks neat but a beretta cx4 is much higher quality for a similar price.

Lord Teapot, I'd have to agree with you in respect of the Gen 1 model (with no disrespect to owners of the previous model)
IMHO, Kel-Tec has upped their game with the introduction of the Gen 2.
I considered the CX-4; ultimately, I wanted something more compact for my truck gun.
Do you know the weight of the CX-4?

Somehow I was the winning bidder on a .40 G-22 version for $410 yesterday. Been looking for a reasonably priced .40 one for a while....already have the 9mm gen 1 version.

Hey Dan-O, I joined KTOG recently & found a lot of useful info there.
The sticky on S2K dis/re-assembly is the bomb!

I think a lot of folks will find a Gen 1 gettin' more affordable, as the remaining units out there slowly get sold.

At $600.00 the Beretta CX4 is a much better quality and available gun.
I've been wanting a Sub 2000 because they fold in half for a back pack, but the biggest plus for me is that they can use the GLOCK mags!

Add a Primary Arms Micro on a QD and boom...I'm done.

I wish I could say the same ~ just tinkering to satisfy my offbeat idiosyncrasies :what:

Went to Grainger's to buy a strap wrench, as the collar removal is required to separate the grip halves.

Using the detailed instructions posted on the KTOG board, I dis-assembled the S2K to install the AzTac aluminum trigger.

Nice to have a carbine that's easy to work on
..to be continued

My brother bought one of the Gen 1 Kel-tec 2000's a while back in .40 cal and at first I thought it was not going to be that good of a firearm boy was I wrong. At 50yds, open sights, standing no rest I knocked the 2" circle out of the target. These things handle excellent and to my supprise are very accurate. I got my gen 2 a few weeks ago in 9mm and love it even more. Not only myself but my 10 year old can knock the bullseye out of targets with it @ 50yds. It takes Glock 17,22 mags and I can't wait to pick up a couple 33round mags for it. I have ran 450 rounds through it so far and not 1 problem. I have run cheap factory ammo in it and my reloads and no problems and shoots them all well. I think I will buy another as soon as possible in .40 cal. I hope they come out with a .45acp.
