How is the reliability of this new and improved Sub-2000?

Is it as good as the old models, which was very good from what I've read?

Lethargy bordering on sloth is my MO ~ will try to pick-up the pace :banghead:

Got off my duff & headed over to the range to give the S2K a workout :)

I took a good sample of ammo: Hornady Critical Defense & Zombies (115gr), Federal JHP 115gr +P+ 9BPLE, and Corbon JHP 125gr +P on the factory side.

Some handloads ~ Berry's 100gr HBRN's w/ 4.7gr VV N-320.

Ran the factory loads (10 rds. each) thru the little rascal first; all cycled the carbine with no problems. No FTE's or function issues whatsoever

Adjusted the sights incrementally, as the hot ammo grouped high & left generally.
The Sub2000 was better than I expected for a first range session (20 yds.)

Folks, I think I found my truck gun..... after tweakin' the sights

VERY NICE!!!

With some Buffalo Bore 124 grain +P+ you'll get almost as much velocity and stopping power as a .357 magnum 125 grain load from a 4" revolver barrel... but you'll get 33+1 shots with a Glock giggle stick happy mag!

VERY NICE!!!....

Thanks, Cooldill. With my old eyes, that's the best I could do with iron sights (mmmm, Zytels..) ;)

Still gotta mount the red-dot & work-up a load that the little subbie likes
I was thinkin' about loading some of those Little Lasers that Walkalong mentioned & tested a few months ago.....

Still gotta mount the red-dot.....

Yep, the Magpul aluminum offset mount was just a bit too close once the red-dot was attached. In the process of makin' a shim from the base of the polymer version of the same offset.

Offset_polymer.jpg (click on image to expand) Right side excavated to allow interlock with aluminum offset. Left side as manufactured & will be same as right side when completed..

The M-Lok lugs on the underside of the aluminum offset will nestle in the recess. Cut off the modified portion to use as a shim. The anterior side has the lugs to index in the S2K fore-end M-Lok slots.

I hope it works :uhoh:

I owned a Gen1 Sub2k for a few years, but recently sold it off because I could just never really warm up to it, even though I really like the idea and utility of it. I had a chance to handle an new Gen2 at a show last week, and it just looks and feels like a better gun. The original just kind of felt cheap...not so with the new one. I may have to pick one up eventually if I can find it for under $400.

I agree, Captains1911. I had an opportunity to shoot a friends Gen 1 & enjoyed it, but I never got one.
Then the Gen 2 came along ~ glad I waited for the new subbie. The Zytel material is far more rugged & durable in the Gen 2.
Good luck finding one under $400
e.g. - Recent post on another board: Walked into a store today in Deland, Florida...they had 3 Gen 2 subs. 2 in .40 cal, and 1 in 9mm Glock 17/22. I said how much---he said $469.00---I said I'll take it.

Improved grip

Added the slip-on grip from Limbsaver today. I like the way it fits the Gen 2 with no trimming :)

Kel-Tec doesn't appear to have the Gen2 on their website yet (slackers), but they have the MSRP for the Gen1 listed at $500, however they could be found for well under $400 and sometimes even $300 two or three years ago. The only reason they have been selling for a lot more in recent years is because they are in short supply and fairly high demand. If Kel-Tec is able to produce the newer versions at a faster rate, as they claim, then hopefully supply will catch up and drive the price down. Only time will tell.

Does the stock extension fit the gen 2? And if so, you must have crazy long arms. I'm 6'4"and the adjustable butt stock at the longest setting on the gen 2 is plenty long for me. It was an absolute necessity on my gen 1 9 version though.

Hey, Dan-O. The stock extension pad was designed for the Gen 1; it does not fit the Gen 2. However, I did find a Magpul recoil pad that I think will work. Will update later with pics :D
If you know a Gen 1 owner that needs an extension, tell them to zip off a PM to me for a PIF

Loaded a few today & the Sub2000 ate 'em for lunch :fire:
Tried the 90gr XTP's over 7.2gr of Silhouette & they reached the paper quickly
+P published Western Powders data is available @ their website.

A little black paint on the tie-wraps & the stock is ready for a test ;)

Installing an aftermarket flip-up iron sight next...
