Does anyone know a source where I can buy scope lens covers of this type at a reasonable price?

I have a couple of sets of these and have bought replacement 2 mm elastic cord. They are nice because the elastic cords can be cut to length to accommodate any scope, with or without sun shades. They need not screw on or exactly fit the diameter of the objectives.

The caps themselves are cheap plastic. This style scope cover, as pictured, seems to come with a variety of different rifle scopes, when purchased with the scope, but I can't see where to buy similar generic covers of this type except for Trijicon replacement covers for $18 -- which is rediculous.

Flip up scope covers are a nuisance. I want something generic, functional and inexpensive. Thanks.

All I am looking for is inexpensive dust covers, front and rear objectives, that are cheap and generic, for long term storage. I have, in the past, used latex condoms, but find, after time, the latex deteriorates and even seems to melt and adhere to the scope. While I still use them routinely for covering optics when cleaning rifles, I want something more durable for long term storage. If all else fails, I will just use empty pellet tins and 2 mm elastic bungie cord and make my own.

I have never liked bikini style scope covers. As they are near useless in my experience for keeping out dust and debris. I can be quite picky about the cleanliness of my optics. Butler creek flip scope covers do a much better job.

I prefer the Butler Creek Bikini scope covers as RC mentioned, as they keep the dust and the crud out, and they are easy to put on and take off. I got mine thru Optic Planet, for $6.99 each with free shipping (ordered 3 at a time). The caps that came with the original scopes had the elastic strands that came loose after just a few years of use.

Bikini caps are all I use. If used right I don't see how they could possibly not keep out dust, moisture and debris. They come off faster flip up caps, don't get in the way after removal and if lost cost very little to replace. I simply grab the rear cap, pull it back and sling shot it off the rifle if in a hurry. If I can't find it after it is no great loss.

i use the bikini covers from butler creek, i got mine form Midway USA. i like the kind the original poster wants but never could find them. the flip up type are great if you don't use them much, i had 2 different sets -- they broke off at the hinge. bikinis are durable won't break and fit several different scopes. i like the bikini covers!!

DIY scope covers

Well, the roll of 2mm elastic cord came yesterday. I raided the shoebox grave yard of all of old, mis-matched and over-stretched scope covers, cut off the old elastic, and then mixed and matched the various end pieces with new elastic cords to fit my full size rifle scopes with lens shades. Its partly my own fault for buying scopes on sale that for whatever reason come without scope covers (grrr) or almost as bad, with clunky flip-up scope covers that are somehow always in the way, if not lost or mismatched for the scope.

I did order two of the Butler Creek rubber cup bikini scope covers. They are OK if you have a 2x7 32 mm or relatively small rim fire scope or AR scope, but they are most definitely not a good fit, for example, for a Hawk 6-24X50 mm Eclipse or Endurance scope with a 30 mm tube. Even without the sun shade, its a very, very tight fit. As you can see, the thick rubber rim is also a tight fit for scopes mounted close to the barrel (another problem with the typical flip up scope covers, too).

They are most definitely not a good fit for a Hawk 6-24x44mm Varmint II or a Weaver Nitrex 6-20x50mm, or any scope with a sunshade. My instinct about the empty pellet tin for the front bell of the Weaver scope that is sitting very close to the barrel of my 308 turned out to be correct.

I still think that will a little creativity, I can find plenty of plastic caps that will do nicely with the 2mm shock cord for making DIY dust covers for the gun safe very inexpensively.

Another idea might be to use neoprene bottle Koozies and the ends of can Koozies with bungee cord to make the covers with neoprene ends. I see these on line relatively cheap. The bottle Koozies zip up nicely over a large bell.

And as always, I can just pocket a half dozen "custom" scope covers from my medical office for short term use should I be headed outdoors, in inclement weather. No problem if I lose one of them -- I can always keep one or two more on hand if an unexpected need arises.

But somewhere in China, I just know there must be a factory with dozens of $2/day workers cranking out thousands of these inexpensive, bungee-style lens covers for a nominal cost -- probably no more 50¢ or $1, each, if I could only find the same source that most of the lower end scope retailers use.

Together with a 100-ft spool of 2mm shock cord at less than $10, one could easily make dozens of low cost dust covers just the right size to keep on various scoped rifles and pistols in storage or transport.

As for the $8-9 Butler Creek Bikini covers, they would be just the thing --- if I were planning to take a full size scoped rifle scuba diving.
