The excellent ARP 264 LBC/6.6 Grendel will shoot both!
"18" stainless barrels and uppers. This is a one time thing after these are gone we will not do it again.
We're going to do it right, they will shoot either the Grendel or 264LBC ammo
They will be headspaced on a typical 7.62x39 bolt face so...
I'd dump the soviet and have a gunsmith re barrel it. Only because he's got the right tools and experience to do the job right. You can jack a barrel up just torquing the muzzle devise without a barrel vise as an example.
This is just an opinion but I have an AR that shoots 1 inch groups at 200 yards when it's good n hot. I think a fouled barrel contributes more to inaccuracy than a warm one does. But, a hot barrel is going to wear faster. A lot faster.
I started using Accurate 2200 in my .223 since I load for 6.8 SPC a lot and I was looking for a single good powder for both. the 2200 is the "stuff" for 6.8
Anyway, at 195 yards, I shot 5 shot groups from a bipod that ran from just under an inch to about 1.25" pretty consistently. Loaded on a...
I can easily build a free float, mid gas, premium 16" barrel .223 Wilde chambered AR for $750
You'd be looking at a mil spec and better rig that would shoot under moa and do it for 30,000 + rounds. My last issue Colt would not do that. Many will I know but by comparison to the S&W a well thought...
Just get an AR, not a $600.00 AR, a decent AR. $600.00 will buy my BCG and trigger.
Then, keep the PSL just in case you need something to stir the campfire.
(just kidding) They are pretty cool, just not my cuppa tea.
Invest in a bag of rosin (Midway USA) and dust the rings to prevent slippage.
I torque to 65 in lbs with a Weaver Gunsmithing Torque wrench. This may be a bit heavy for some rings but they should come with a torque spec. This is just part of my procedure as a suggestion.
I'm guessing you're shooting an AR?
Another guess is perhaps you're loading the bipod with some forward pressure. This will result in better accuracy with an AR in most cases. It's not possible Off a rest. Again, just a wild guess since the same thing happens to me with AR platform guns.
I find cheap people don't like AR's. I like single shot, bolt guns and lever rifles too and I have one or two of each. I also have 6 AR-15'a and two AR-10's. I don't touch the other guns anymore.
