There are slight differences. Between mil specs its primarily in fit and finish. Rough edges and a less-than-stallar finish coating can be expected from some cheaper models.
However these days for <$100 you can get a good quality stripped lower from plenty of manufacturers.
Refurb carries a negative connotation with it but I like to think of it as "pre-tested with errors corrected."
I just bought a brand new vortex diamondback for my new TC icon .308. But if I wanted a good scope for my AR that is gonna get knocked around on the farm i would not be above a...
Could not have said it better. The only use for the gear is if you want a test piece of material to stipple before you do your gun.
The gear promo is really awesome. I did it for mine back in Dec 2010 and having 5 mags is really nice and I didn't have to drop $100 which honestly I just spent...
Palmetto State Armory
Palmettostatearmory.com
They have all sorts of uppers that you can order and if they dont have one you want. Order one similar and then call them and they will make the changes that you want. I ordered a 16" carbine length upper and had it at my door in 8 days from...
Good write up. I have a heavily modified 10/22 that shoots darn well. Sub MOA at 50 yards.
However my buddy has an old marlin that shoots just as well and the thing is stock and about 45 years old.
Build one and save $200.
Palmetto State Armory has great prices on all of their stuff. Just get an assembled upper, stripped lower, lower parts kit and stock/buffer tube and slap it all together. Will run you about $650-700 and you will honestly have a better gun than all that you listed...
TC Icon is a very nice gun. Mine came from the factory with a .84 group on paper. VERY nice trigger. Its adjustable and mine breaks like a glass rod at 2.8lbs. Also the mounts are milled into the receiver so one less part to come loose. And i think they have a mail in rebate right now!
Pretty much only Deer. I'm not at the point in my life where I can go spend a week out west for mulies and there are no other long range plans in my near future. The only other use would be the trips to the range with it which stretches out to 300 yards. 3-9 is for sure good enough for deer...
Videos on youtube help. Also if you decide what you want, build it. I built an AR15 before even shooting one. It really helps you understand the weapon.
AK has reliability
AR has accuracy
Both have good after market but more so the AR. Either choice is a good one.
Yeah for a lazy person who just wants to shoot. For me building the gun is half the fun. And then when it shoots just as well as one of those "off the shelf VQs" it feels even better.
I have had good luck with my Ruger receiver and bolt. Everything else is aftermarket and she shoots sub MOA.
Power custom trigger kit set at 2.5#

I would get a power custom sear/hammer/trigger to clean up the trigger. (Mine is at 2.5lbs). With the extra 50 get your barrel reworked by one of the guys on RFC. Will be a sleeper rifle in no time.
Which reticule did you use on your burris? Im interested in the ballistic pled but have heard it is rather thick for further distances.
I've also heard that burris CS is garbage which does give me some reservations about buying from them.
Just picked up a TC Icon in .308 and it needs a scope for this deer season. I've settled on 3-9x40mm in a few brands but I can't decide. I've read reviews on each and it seems I can't go wrong with whatever I choose. So Im turning to the experts.
My choices:
Bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40...
Honestly I would just wait until you are 21. You said you don't have the money anyways to complete a full AR so why would you just want pieces sitting around? If you have an itchy trigger finger buy a 10/22 from walmart for 200 and go shoot that.
To actually answer your question I would not...
Buddy of mine took a mauser action and rechambered it to a .45 WSM. It is a tack driver out to 200 yards. I think for the beater gun, blank barrel, and a stock from boyds he has about $600 in it.
