    Can I use 308 for 7.62X51 ?

I am thinking of buying a Norinco in 7.62X51, but I can find no load data, dies, or brass for it. I know it is almost identical to the 308, but is it close enough to use the above components to load for it accuratley and reliably? If not, can you please tell me where I can find what I am looking...

    Questions about Norinco M-14 clone

Thanks guys, it gives some more info to go on. When I say i am looking for about 1.5", that would be with a scope and my own custom load for her. SDC keep me informed about how it works for you, I am looking for one after I know whether I owe the government or the gorvernment owes me. You can...

    Questions about Norinco M-14 clone

I am looking on the Marstar webpage in Ontario and they have the Norinco M-305 (M-14 clone) for $400 CDN. Are these rifles a good purchase? I like tinkering with firearms, and will probably modify it as I go, but I want a good rifle to start with that will shoot well (~ 1.5" @ 100 yards) or will...

    Harris Bipods

I just purchased a 25S (swivel) and it goes from 13" to 25". I was thinking of a Versa Pod, but I was not impressed in the least with the quality. The shop owner said to cover the attachment section with tpae or the Versa Pod would scratch the stock. The Harris is a little heavy, but it folds up...

    6.5 mm thoughts, opinions, impressions

I shoot the 6.5 X 55 Swedish Mauser out of an M38 Swedish Mauser. For hunting deer size game, I use a 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip loaded on top of Norma brass. This rifle has brought done several moose with the 139 grain factory ammo from Norma. I find increased accuracy with the Norma brass...

    Opinions on Versa-pod

Thanks HKSW, this gives me some more info to think about. I am looking at the 13-23" model for my Ruger #1 in 22-250 while field shooting, and for my T/C Omega. I am still debating between the Harris and the Versa-pod. The quality seems much better on the Harris, but the ability to pan left and...

Ruger No 1 Single Shot Rifle

I have a #1V in 22-250 that shoots .42 inch three shot groups at 100 yards (55 grain C/T Ballistic Silvertip on top of IMR 4064). I bought it used without a mark on it and I do not think I would ever sell it, it shoots too well. I am actually putting better glass on it now. I would but...

    High power scope for ~$350

I am looking for a scope to throw on my Ruger #1 Varmint. She shoots so well that I want to put half decent glass on it. I have been looking at the Bushnell Elite 4200 in 6-24X40, or the Weaver Classic V 6-24X42. These scopes are around $350 American, and that is about hte extent of what I can...

    Black Powder Substitute

I use 777 in my T\C rifle, but the webpage warns that it will not ignite if you do not have 209 ignition. It has no sulfur in it, from what I have read, and I guess the sulfur increases ingition ease. It may work fine with a #10 cap, but the info does not look good.

    Tips for accuracy

Thank you for the advise Old Snow. I tried out the Sabots, and cleaned the barrel with alcohol between each shot, and got the groups down to 1 1/2" at 50 yards. That is not spectacular, but I am happy to know that if I work at the loads I can probably get a good group.

Where to find Savage 99 barrels?

Smoke, I thought of that, but someone told me that I would have to modify the magazine, the extractor, and the bolt face also to get it to feed the 300 Savage. The 30-30 is almost identical to the 303 savage, so the action work would not be neccessary, just a new barrel

Where to find Savage 99 barrels?

I take a lever with me every time I go to the range and will burn up 40-50 rounds just playing around. It is not in that great a shape and the rifling looks to be fairly rough, so it has no real collectors value, but I like the feel of the Savage better than my Winchester 94. I would rather dump...

Where to find Savage 99 barrels?

I have an old Savage 99 that my uncle gave me, but it is in 303 Savage. I was looking around for reloading supplies and found I might be better off going with a new, or newer, barrel. I am trying to find a barrel for it in 30-30, this should reduce the amount of work needed to make it feed...

    Tips for accuracy

Hello all. I bought a T\C Omega in .50 cal a few months back and I am trying to work on my accuracy. I owned a CVA Bobcat before just to see if I liked using a muzzleloader and realized I did. I bought the Omega to make it easier to clean, increase reliability, and to work on accuracy...

I HATE it when people give you things you can't use!

I was given 303 British, 30-30, and 9 mm dies, which I had no use for any. Now I own a Winchester 94, a Bretta 92, and I am keeping my eye out for a good Enfield. I just looked at it as if I was going to buy something, I might as well buy something that will save me a little bit of money overall.

    Ruger No. 1--Best vintage??

I have a #1-v in .22-250 that will shoot 4/10" 3 shot groups and 6/10" 5 shot groups with 55 grain CT Ballistic Silvertip. I cannot get it to open past 1" with the factory ammo I have tried. I was thinking of an Encore, but the one I looked at did not compare in fit and finish. My father's buddy...

    Purchased an Omega

I was at the local outdoor shop on the weekend, looking at an Encore when I set eyes on the Omega. I know yo can switch barrels on the Encore, but it meant selling my Ruger #1 and I am quite enamored with that rifle. The Omega is set up similar to the #1 so that was a major selling point. I now...

    Casting Conicals for a muzzleloader

Thank you very much, this is quite helpful. The only thing I am still wondering about is tjat you said the conicals are fine around 1500 fps, but how are they at 2200 fps? I doubt that I will charge it that much very often, but it is nice to know it will still be okay.
