    Spare cylinder question......(prices)

I want to order a spare cylinder or two for my Pietta 1860. I see that Dixie gun works has the 1860 cylinders for $91.00 each.......Cabelas has the same at only 49.00 each (!) Why such a big difference in pricing? Are the cylinders from Dixie a better quality than those sold at Cabelas? Many...

    Walker question.....

Specifically, the cylinder bolt notches. I notice they are roundish in shape.....oblong. Why do these guns NOT have a notch "lead-in" like all other revolvers? Obviously something unique to the guns cocking action, a primitive design maybe......but why? Just curious. Russ

    Colt 1911a1....

Went to my local gun show today and found the Colt I've been looking for for several months now. It is a new production Series 70. I cannot tell you how many local shops I've been hitting on weekends trying to find this particular gun. Saw it on a dealers table almost as soon as I walked in...

    odd rifling....

What kind of rifling is this, and is it unique to this gun? (Can't help wonder how they cut those slots back in those days)

Bought a new .22 pistol today......

Went to the gunshow early this morning....I was searching for an older Ruger Mk II. I then came upon this brand-new Mk III "Hunter" at a dealers table.......a bit more than I was planning on spending today but I HAD to have it. It came with some stuff I have no use for (pad-lock....scope...

Where did the saying "lock & Load" come from?

I don't ever recall hearing it as a kid in the 1970's......matter of fact, I don't recall hearing it in the 1980's either. Internet speak? Movies? Video games......genuine military term perhaps? Just thinking out loud today:) Russ

    Gunshow purchase.....S&W 29-2...

At the Berea Ohio show I picked up a very nice .44 mag. Gun is about 1972/73 vintage. Blueing is near perfect. Only blemish is a slightly buggered extractor rod which I plan on relacing.

    "American Guns" TV show.....

Just saw an ad on TV moments ago. New show series starting Monday on Discovery Channel. Title is "American Guns" .http://blogs.discovery.com/discovery-insider/2011/09/all-new-american-guns.html Anyone else hear of this? Looks like "Sons Of Guns" will have some competition....

Have you ever written to a gun magazine.....

......and they actually published your letter? Way back in the 1970's as a teenager in high school "Guns & Ammo" was my favorite magazine. Somewhere around 1974-75 my parents bought me a subscription. One day I had some thoughts in mind about a black powder pistol I owned......so I thought...

    Why no O/U double rifles?

I've no practical reason to own a double rifle.....could'nt afford one anyway but they have always fascinated me just the same. Especially the large-bore guns. I don't think I've ever heard of one in an over/under configuration, yet that type of set-up seems to make good sense.......would it not...

    Hoppes #9. 2 Questions....

Can't seem to find info on what year good ol' #9 was developed and put on the market. Was (is) the stuff used by our military? Russ

    1950's...."The golden days for gun-owners"...

....I was born to late to experience it but it is my opinion. The only 2nd amendment infringment was the NFA of 1934. Granted, the moderen stuff we have now was'nt yet available....but so what. There were plenty of great firearms being made. Colt, S&W....as an example...were at the top of...

    FBI/ATF agents buying a gun....

I've often wondered about this. Suppose John Doe.....FBI "special agent" & gun enthusiest.....decides he wants a new handgun. Must he, like the rest of us fill out a 4473? What about any LEO for that matter? It would seem to me that they should not have to. I mean really.....if a guy is an...

    Question about hogs nervous system...

Although I'm not a hunter myself......strangely as it seems I do like reading about hunting and so I read the exellent 23 page stickied thread by Flintknapper on feral pigs in Texas. Very educational to me because before I read it I had no idea there was such a major pig-infestation in this...

Long term storage of Hoppe's #9....

....in the plastic bottle, that is. If allowed to sit for too long, will the stuff begin to attack the plastic? I'm wondering if it would be wise to transfer the stuff into small GLASS capped bottles. I would think they would'nt package it into plastic bottles if that were the case.....but...

Ruger "single six"...I want one because.....

........It is the only handgun I am aware of that will shoot every variation of .22 ammo that is made. The ultimate "plinking gun" IMHO. Think about it. 22's are fun and economical to shoot.....and here is a gun that will shoot cb caps....22 short/long/longrifle/mini-mags/shot AND .22 magnum...

Sudden surge of ammo at (my) Walmart!

I swear.....for the past year I've not seen a single box of .45 acp at my local store. Not one. Oh well, that's life.......so I suck it up and just go to a local gunshop or "Dick's" and pay the extra bucks. Now, I realize the ammo is THERE.....just not when I happen to be there.....just a matter...

My SS# stolen.....effect on future gun purchases?

As you know, any time a police car is behind you in traffic.....the officer will almost always do a routine "plate-run" on your vehicle.....wether you are doing anything wrong or not. (Bear with me....some explaing is in order so here goes) Well, this happened to me just recently. I was...

Why is military ammo called: "BALL"?

I've always wondered this. Wether it is pistol ammo (45 ACP or 9mm)....or rifle & machine gun......clearly we know the bullet itself is never round like a sphere-shaped musket ball. Even though the term might indicate a a FMJ.....the term don't make sense to me. I'm a bit embarressed in...

    Iver Johnson "Colt" replica?

Many years ago (mid 1970's) I had an 1860 44 cal. Colt repro made by Iver Johnson. I was just a teenager when I received this gun as a gift from my uncle, complete with 44 cal balls/flask/tools etc. I never had the chance to shoot the gun as it was stolen from me about a year later. Oh...
