I'm the happy owner of a Tanfoglio Witness in 10 mm Auto.
As many of you know, this cartridge has an incredible versatility, there are loads from 40 S&W level to the lower end of 41 Magnum.

It is a shame that this beautiful round was left to "die" after the introduction of the smaller brother.

Now I heard more and more that this caliber is again on the rise and that more and more pistols are being chambered for it.

Still finding ammo is hard (I do not even mention expensive...), sometimes even at gun stores.
Around here (Seattle) outside of specific gun shops, you can find the occasional box of FMJ at GI Joe's, forget about Big 5 and never mind Wal Mart.

The "big 3" American ammo manufacturers offer only one load (180 gr FMJ for Remington and 174 gr HP for Winchester) or max 2 loads (180 gr FMJ and HP for Federal)
Winchester, good for them, load this round to the original specs.

A more diverse offering came only form specialty manufacturers (Double Tap, Corbon) and not many gun stores carry them.

So this "resurgence" of the 10 mm Auto is for real. is it wishful thinking or is still too early to tell???

i wish

its rare here to find it ohio stocks little a the stores in town a box a piece at the most ammo runs up to 50 for 50 high anitonmy lead golden eagle i think

I intend to buy a 1911 chambered in 10mm at some point. Probably a Dan Wesson.

I was looking at ammo prices on www.cheaperthandirt dot com and noticed alot of the 10mm boxes of ammo are CHEAPER (by a couple dozen cents) than the same manufacurers .45 ACP load. Suprised me! Got a little excited too!

I have no problem finding ammo and most of it in the same price range as 45 ACP around here . A box of 50 is usually about $15 for HSM brand at Sportco and places like SPortsman Warehouse or Cabelas its $17 .

I think the 10 mm has a solid but small core following. I think its popularity will be stable.

If you are looking for ammo PMC 170 gr at 1200 fps is another choice. Local shops will order ammo for you.

I like my 1911 10mm but I'm selling it due to the ammo problems, I'm thinking it may be better to have another 9X19 or a down payment on an RPD.

Have a local shop here in Vegas that stocks 10mm ammo. It's cheap plinking stuff, but right now it's way less than 45 or even 9mm.
I think 10mm is starting to get more recognition. Colt is bringing back the Deta Elite and more manufacturers are building guns in 10mm.

The 10mm is like the 41 mag, IMO. It is a good round but does not have the following it deserves. To shoot it you need to reload, if you do it is as cheep as the 40 or 45 to reload and capable of 600+ ftps of energy. It is a great auto cartage for hunting small game or back up to a rifle up to small black bear. I have a Glock 20 with an extra barrel in 40 which gives me a lot of options. Good luck with your decision. :) Bill

Nope

Its like a lot of in between rounds. Few want it and it becomes a niche item; Both in pistols that are manufactured in the caliber and in the ammo available. The .40SW simply outclasses it in popularity. I owned a 10mm Glock and in the end, was happy to sell it and buy the .40 calibler.

I didn't think it ever went anywhere. It has always been popular with a small group. Now others are just starting to notice it.

Own two. A Witness and a Witness Match. Plan to own many more. I get my ammo from Georgia Arms. $300/1000 at my door, 180 grain FMJ in new starline brass. The big 'warehouse' outlet carries a big stack of American Eagle 10mm, but the small local stores usually only have Blazer's or regional (questionable) reloads.

It didn't go away, so it can't come back:)

I do feel we are seeing a small surge in popularity.

sqlbullet, I think you said it exactly right: There is a small surge in popularity. The round had enough core fans to keep it alive, and there seems to be a little bit of new interest in it, but I don't think it will ever become "popular", and it will certainly never displace the mighty .45 as top dog.

I am a rabid 10mm fan. I remember reading about the Bren Ten when I was in high school. I convinced my college roommate who was 21 to get Delta Elite in 1988/89. I bought a Delta shortly after I turned 21.

What really chaps my hide is all the people don't buy one because it isn't popular. If everyone who has used this excuse purchased one, it would be the most popular cartridge of all time! Popularity Paradox.

I can't wait for Springfield to re-release the Omega and for someone to remake the Wyoming Arms Parker 10mm.

The 10mm fits a very needed nitch as the only mainstream mangum-type dedicated auto cartridge.

Aren't all fans of the 10mm rabid? Seriously, zealotry seems to run rampant with fans of the 10mm.

I don't have a compelling reason for not owning one, except that I just am not that interested. My 9mm and my .45 do everything I need them to do, and I just don't need a new cartridge. Frankly, I feel the same about the .40, and I feel the same for virtually every big-bore cartridge over .44mag. The 10mm, as far as I can tell, seems like a perfectly good round, but there isn't enough there to convince me to buy one.

I would also add that if everyone would have bought a Pontiac Aztek, they too would have been popular. Still ugly as sin, but popular.

In the "Personal Defense" dpt you are right....you can stop two legged critters as easily with a .45 a .40 or even a 9 unless you pick a gunfight with heavily armoured individuals, then you have an edge with the 10 mm..:evil::evil:

A 10 mm pistol gives you the opportunity to hunt deers or defend yoruself against a small-mid size bear or some other nasty creature where a 45 or a 40 is inappropriate....this is the real advantage and differentiating factor for this cartridge...honestly, for personal defence its potency is almost wasteful.

I feel the same "indifference" you have for the 10 mm toward the .45.....my .40 can do as much (and penetrates better against light barriers) and I can have more rounds in the mag with the same size pistol....

Great cartridge, arguably the best pistol cartridge for a defensive firearm out there. Lots of power, lots of versatility, good capacity, flat trajectory for longer shots like hunting. Yet all with managable recoil that allows accurate rapid fire if necessary.

The range of bullet weights and power levels in an auto is also astounding. You can load it very low, around .40S&W levels or very high near .41 Magnum levels (with appropriate hardware) and anything in between.
Can defend against 2 or 4 legged predators.

It is a shame so few are on the CA approved pistol list. In CA you only have 4 models to choose from in an auto. Two Glocks, two Kimbers, and then a revolver.
All these great new guns coming out don't mean anything in CA! :fire:

10MM rules! (foaming at the mouth) I keep my Glock G20 loaded with DoubleTap 230 grn equalizer ammo for home defence;135 grn JHP over a 95 grn lead ball, just over 1000fps and 550 fpe, at 30 feet the two projectiles hit the target about one inch apart....two holes bleed better than one. I have a pistol in all of the other popular calibers but the 10mm would always be my choice for SD

I would also add that if everyone would have bought a Pontiac Aztek, they too would have been popular. Still ugly as sin, but popular.

True. But I don't read about buyer after buyer NOT selecting the Aztek because it is unpopular. They don't select it because it has deficiencies.

But I rarely see a 10mm thread in which at least one, if not several, comment on lack of popularity being a major reason not to buy.
And this is not unique to the 10mm or even to gun cartridges. There have been a number of studies that show that humans are greatly influenced, right or wrong, by the decisions of others.

I do not own one, but I am very very seriously considering a EAA 10mm as my next handgun and the 4th ever handgun that I have owned. The 10mm seems like such a great cartridge that it makes no sense to pass up on it.
