10mm opinions??

Check out Liberty Defense 10mm if you havent. 60gr goes 2,400 FPS and doesnt overpenetrate. Might be overkill. Might be just right depending on what you have to shoot at.

I agree though for the most part. I like 40s&w the most for a general carry. If I have to tackle a big mean bear I want a rifle. Cougar... probably a rocket pack.
60g going 2400!!! that’s insane, probably recoil like a 9mm too. When I’m in the woods here in the Pacific North West, I currently carry a .460 mag. But it’s a little too heavy, I have 2 10mm that I’m field testing, couple more 100 rounds should do it. But, in the woods, I’m going with a solid bullet or hard cast for penetration, want to get to those vitals asap!

Thanks for the replies!
I definitely have some revolvers on my wish list. 44mag will probably be my next revolver, but for 10mm I think I'm going to go with an auto first.
I'm not familiar with the Witness, I'll have to check into it.

XDM is a possibility, I'm very happy with my XD .40. One pro of 10mm is being able to use my .40 dies, and the ammo if I need to.

I have heard before that Glock got the 10mm right , more so than others. I think Ohen Cepel is right. If I get a Glock , I'm probably better to get the longer barrel and frame of the 20.

I like striker fired auto's and 1911 styles for different purposes. I was thinking of metal 1911 style for weight to help with recoil. This gun will not see much use as an EDC. It might accompany me if I'm ever in bear country, but otherwise will be mostly for farm and home defense.
I also agree with WestKentucky and have mostly written off Colt for auto's and AR-15s. I do love the Python though.

I have a RIA .38 special that is not pretty, but perfectly functional. I had a RIA 1911 in 45 acp that I probably should have kept. I wasn't really unhappy with it. Someone else just wanted it more than me and 45 is not my favorite caliber anyway.
Thanks for the replies. They're all good food for thought.:)
don’t get the Witness, I have one, and I’m getting it optic cut because I can rack the slide without gloves or gaff tape on it. like a chinese finger trap

No I mean those magic 10mm bullets for a CCW weapons against 2 legged threats. Definitely want hard cast for those big monsters out by you. Maybe an M4 for a cougar though ....and a bunch of drums..... If you ever see one coming.

I have a 10.5” .223 AR with brace thing that I might put over my shoulder in the woods. I swear Big Foot is after me. On more than a few occasions, sometimes really bad smelling was stalking me. In the middle of the woods with no cell signal and miles from your car… SO CREEPY.

Nah, (paraphrased... a famous FBI guy once said) "over penetration never got a cop killed..." and the OP didn't ask about EDC.

I had a 20, and alongside my Delta Gold cup that lightweight polymer didn't even rate second place.
that’s a great paraphrase!!! time for a cool drink

Ok, so it looks like I might be goaded into getting a 10mm.
So there are 4 models readily available and at opposite ends of price range, so let's hear opinions on these!!
Sig P220 Legion
Glock 29
Sw M&P
Rock Island 1911.

It's not on your list but I just took my new Glock 20 to the range for the first time today. I was quite impressed both with its accuracy and ability to soak up recoil, even with the full-house 10mm loads. I even swapped out the barrel and converted it to .40 cal for a few magazines. This will be the firearm I carry in my vehicle and I don't intend to carry it on my person, at least in routine fashion. Gotta say that I'm quite pleased with the Glock 20.

Didn’t realize you can swap out the barrel to make it .40, like you already know, I’m a big fan of .40 cal

Good luck using a .223 on bear and “Bigfoot”

I had the same dilemma back when I bought mine. I didn't want a 1911 platform and really wanted the Sig but it was to expensive. So I got a Glock 20
I don't even like Glocks that much.

If I did it today I would get the Springfield XD.

G29. Don't know much about the m&p, the 220 is sweet but heavy and expensive, the 1911 10mm has never appealed to me.rock island makes ok guns but for a lot of use I'm not confident how it would hold up.
I'm curious about the m&p but I'll let it shake out a few years before I consider one.

Checking availability on the models mentioned by everyone. So far the only ones I'm sure I can get my hands on are the P220, G20 gen 3, and RIA A1 and Tac Ultra.
GET THE TAC ULTRA! nothing says Bad A** like a double stack full size 10mm 1911! and a good price too!

Big Foot will be screaming in horror when he see that

I really like my Glock 29. It's on my belt at the moment. It is easy to carry and shoot. Not bad for a cartridge like the 10mm Auto. It didn't take long though to realize that the short barrel limits what that cartridge is capable of. If you want to carry a 10mm Auto I highly recommend the G29. If you want a gun that can make the 10mm Auto shine, I suggest something with a little more barrel.

Hadn't even thought of Dan Wesson, thanks for the reminder. The Kodiak would be more my style. Have see if any are available.

Meant to quote Brutus51 on that, don't know what happened.
