10mm opinions??

MP-5 makes a 10mm??? you have to me kidding me

H&K used to make a 10mm MP-5. The FBI contracted for them way back in the late '80s. They were great submachine guns. Our duty ammo was a Federal 190 grain JHP. H&K stopped supporting them some time ago, so no new parts were available. They have pretty much been taken out of service now and replaced by M4s.

that must have been a hand full to shoot on full auto.

I shot a Navy 9mm MP-5 and it was silky smooth after the 1st few full auto rounds

It was actually incredibly easy to shoot full-auto. The MP-5/10 was a well designed firearm. It was easier to shoot full auto than the Thompson, and that too is a breeze.

Glock did 10mm right and among the first to do so. They did 10mm before they put out their 45 which says something. And, I am not a huge Glock fan.

The 20 is a great option in 10mm and will hold up for a long time.
I never was interested in the 29 and would likely put that last among the options the OP listed as the short barrel takes a fair amount away from the 10mm.

Mark- interesting SA you have there!
I have the 20 and the 29. I don't actually remember which came first. I don't shoot the 29 much. I've carried it some but I don't feel like the 20 is so much more difficult to carry that I have to carry the 29. The 29's recoil is pretty snappy. The 20 is a joy to shoot and I used to carry that big ol' gun every day in an OWB leather holster underneath some kind of an extra long untucked shirt. I prefer it over the 29. I like my 19x for EDC now but if I felt like I needed to carry something closer to rifle like firepower but still a reasonably concealable semi-auto pistol, it would be that Glock 20. If concealment was the more important factor for me but I still wanted 10mm muzzle energy, then I'd carry the 29 over the 20 and just understand that I'm losing a few ft/lbs. They're both useful in their own way then so I'm not interested in getting rid of ether of them.

To answer the OP's question, I'd get the Legion because I already have a bunch of Glocks and I really want a Sig Legion.

I'd second the Ruger SR1911. I have a 10mm version, very nice pistol. I have a RIA 1911, but it's .38 Super and not 10mm. However, it's a very tight gun, well made, and the price is awesome. A friend of mine has the RIA 10mm double stack 1911 model, nice gun, but the grip is a bit wide for me.

I owned a 2nd Gen G20 for 27 years, never warmed to the Glock. I had way too many swelled cases from the not fully supported chamber, so I traded it for the Ruger, no regrets.
I pretty immediately put KKM threaded barrels in both my Glock 20 and 29 (and 21). If you reload, chamber support is definitely an issue there.

wish HK would do a Semi MP-5/10 for the US market… but HK don’t really care about consumer market

Had a 1006, really wanted to like the gun as it was built like a tank, hard on brass though. Sold it to a friend because I just couldn't get comfortable with the grip. Currently have a Kimber but if I could start all over I'd go with a Dan Wesson Razorback.

My 1st 10MM was the 1006 and it is built like a tank and on the hip it feels like your carrying one. Ended up going to the G20 to lighten the load a bit out in the bush.

I own the first and last. I'm generally not interested in plastic firearms, 10mm in particular.

Let me ask this, if a polymer selection and finely made metal model were the same price, and it was not for EDC (I get the weight issue) what would you buy?
This will very rarely be concealed carry, so I would definitely go with metal. I'd actually prefer a little more weight in this gun. If I need to go light I'll take something else.

My first 10mm was a Smith 1006 and a few other Smiths. I added a Colt Delta Elite in 2012 or so. Since then I have added Glocks in 10mm, a Sig (nice but heavy and low round count) and finally about 4 or so years ago a Grand Power P40 10mm. Wow, IMO the best 10mm available. I have another in .40 that I am going to have converted to 10mm.

From the OP's list, I would choose the SIG P220 which is a TANK! I won't ever own a 10mm 1911 again because I did exactly this same thing to my Ruger SR1911-10. Ruger fixed it, and I sold it with full disclosure.
I broke the barrel lug on my RIA 10mm when i 1st got it. Running hot loads in it. They fixed it and replaced the slide barrel too. My hot rodding days ended then. It told me a good lesson. Mild loads shoot better IMO. More accurate and easier on the shooter and equipment.

I'm no Gluck guy, but the G20 is easily the best Gluck I've ever shot and never owned. I went with the XDM-10 in its stead with no regerts.
It's not on your list but I just took my new Glock 20 to the range for the first time today. I was quite impressed both with its accuracy and ability to soak up recoil, even with the full-house 10mm loads. I even swapped out the barrel and converted it to .40 cal for a few magazines. This will be the firearm I carry in my vehicle and I don't intend to carry it on my person, at least in routine fashion. Gotta say that I'm quite pleased with the Glock 20.

I had the same dilemma back when I bought mine. I didn't want a 1911 platform and really wanted the Sig but it was to expensive. So I got a Glock 20
I don't even like Glocks that much.

If I did it today I would get the Springfield XD.

Ok, so it looks like I might be goaded into getting a 10mm.
So there are 4 models readily available and at opposite ends of price range, so let's hear opinions on these!!
Sig P220 Legion
Glock 29
Sw M&P
Rock Island 1911.
The first question, ... what’s your intention for the gun?

Concealed EDC? Range toy/plinker? Woods/boonies/trail gun?

I owned a P220 Legion in .45ACP and really liked it—the Legion line has a number of features that appeal to me: excellent sights for day or low-light, wonderful grips (the best factory grips of any pistol I’ve owned) and a super SA overtravel-adjustable trigger. The all-steel 10mm would be a wonderfully comfortable shooter, too. As for 1911s in 10mm, my only experience—and it’s been very positive—has been with my Dan Wesson Bruin. I posted a thread about it here when I first received it.

Glock didn't exactly do 10mm correctly. I have a gen 2 glock 20 and early on in its life I ended up having a case rupture which sheared the mag catch and blew the mag out the bottom of my pistol. The stock barrel on the gen2 just isn't well supported at all.

I'm not sure I would trust a 1911 style with true full power 10mm loads. I don't think that frame style is up to handling constant beating with 10mm full power. Problem is you really can't find good 10mm loads without hand loading.

I think if you want a cartridge and platform that is going to give you good consistent full power an hk usp 45 running 45 super should be a better option, with 45acp being cheaper to shoot and "factory" 45 super not being gimped.

I'm definitely going 10mm for a few other reasons, but it is narrowing down. If I didn't have some other objects of desire, I'd probably get the Kodiak. I'd have to put off work on my project truck if I get the Kodiak or the P320, so I'm probably going with XDM or G20, but haven't totally ruled out the RIA M1911 A1.

You can never go wrong with what you’re familiar with… go with the Glock or XDM man!

It was fascinating to read Jeff Cooper in the Gunsite Gossip series of books whereby he pursues the 10mm to add range to the gunfight, but later says that the motivations that drove him were not rooted in the context of the average gunfight distance based on data, thus he remained with the 45 ACP.
