Just bought a 1894ss, im looking for a silver scope and rings that would fit this guy well.

3x9 or somehting that size would be nice. Any suggestions? ive never bought a scope before!

thanks

Curiosity: why would you put a 3-9x scope on a .44 Magnum?

Seems like a net loss of utility, all around.

Ever see Skinner Sights?

Ive got enough of iron sighted rifles, looking to do some boar hunting and just go to the range.

Saw the skinner peeps...meh

it does not have to be a 3x9 either soming tht size or smaller, that nikon looks nice

DO I need extended eye releif? most scopes are around 4 in releif right? do i get a big pistol scope?

A good scope in it's price range. They are a big, long, heavy scope best suited for large, heavy bolt action rifles. It is way over powered for the 44 mag rifle. Something in a small 2-7X or 1.5-4X will weigh 5-6 oz. less, be a couple of inches shorter, and look much better on a small levergun. And still give more magnification than you can use with the rifle.

Personal preference really. I like stainless rifles, but not with silver scopes on them. Cruise the net to find pics of stainless rifles and both black and silver scopes to see what really looks best to you.

The biggest problem is that every stainless gun is finished different and looks a different color. Same for the scopes. You never get a scope and gun where the finish matches. Black looks good on everything.

I agree completely. And on a lever-gun a 1.5-4x or 2-7x is plenty in most cases, or a good fixed 2x. Matte Black looks really good on stainless. YMMV

I've read good things about the new Redfields. Made in the Leupold facility in Oregon I believe. Comes with a lifetime waranty. 2-7x-33 model for around $130.

Don't know if they come in silver though.

I have the 2.5-7x32 Nikon Shotgun-Muzzle loader scope on my .444 Marlin but it is Blued as is the scope. That was the only 3-9 I could find with Nikon that matched your request. All my weapons that wear scopes are Nikon equipped. I do kind of agree with Bear and jmr, 3-9 is a bit over what you really would need for that weapon and also Black does look fine on SS. Shop around and look at some pics with both and come to your own conclusion as to what would be best suited for your needs.

Something in the neighborhood of a 1-4x is plenty. A 3-9x would be way too much glass for a rifle not typically used beyond 100yds. Put it this way, I use my .17HMR on small critters and targets out to 250yds and leave my 4-16x scope set at 8x.

I don't know what sort of distances the .44 is shot at out of a rifle, but typically with a rifle firing a handgun caliber, I usually go with a low magnification scope with the parallax set at about 75 yards. Sounds to me like you need a shotgun scope.

Possibly a nice fixed magnification - 2.5, 3, or 4 would do what you're looking for in a smaller scope, less weight, less things to go wrong...

Just an idea

I put a Leupold 2x pistol scope on my 1894P .44 Mag in an XS Lever-Scout mount.

It is the ideal size and power for any pistol caliber Marlin.

We are not talking about a 300 yard gopher rifle here folks, so a 3x-9x scope is just way more then you need or can use!

A wide open field of view and plenty of dim light ability is what you want on a pig rifle!! You get that with low power scopes.

Here's that Nikon on my 1894SS....

I like 3-9X scopes, and like this one on my Marlin. It's nice to have the extra magnification if you want it, and the quick focus is a great feature. As said above, personal preference.
