A good scope in it's price range. They are a big, long, heavy scope best suited for large, heavy bolt action rifles. It is way over powered for the 44 mag rifle. Something in a small 2-7X or 1.5-4X will weigh 5-6 oz. less, be a couple of inches shorter, and look much better on a small levergun. And still give more magnification than you can use with the rifle.
Personal preference really. I like stainless rifles, but not with silver scopes on them. Cruise the net to find pics of stainless rifles and both black and silver scopes to see what really looks best to you.
The biggest problem is that every stainless gun is finished different and looks a different color. Same for the scopes. You never get a scope and gun where the finish matches. Black looks good on everything.
I've read good things about the new Redfields. Made in the Leupold facility in Oregon I believe. Comes with a lifetime waranty. 2-7x-33 model for around $130.
I have the 2.5-7x32 Nikon Shotgun-Muzzle loader scope on my .444 Marlin but it is Blued as is the scope. That was the only 3-9 I could find with Nikon that matched your request. All my weapons that wear scopes are Nikon equipped. I do kind of agree with Bear and jmr, 3-9 is a bit over what you really would need for that weapon and also Black does look fine on SS. Shop around and look at some pics with both and come to your own conclusion as to what would be best suited for your needs.
Something in the neighborhood of a 1-4x is plenty. A 3-9x would be way too much glass for a rifle not typically used beyond 100yds. Put it this way, I use my .17HMR on small critters and targets out to 250yds and leave my 4-16x scope set at 8x.
I don't know what sort of distances the .44 is shot at out of a rifle, but typically with a rifle firing a handgun caliber, I usually go with a low magnification scope with the parallax set at about 75 yards. Sounds to me like you need a shotgun scope.
Here's that Nikon on my 1894SS....
I like 3-9X scopes, and like this one on my Marlin. It's nice to have the extra magnification if you want it, and the quick focus is a great feature. As said above, personal preference.
