Kimber Compact Stainless Series I. Just got the VZ grips on it and it's sweeter than it was before. I have others, but this is my favorite.

Magyar quipped:

Hey John, a.k.a. "Tuner", I didn't see any Officer's model...You really don't like short barrels

Keep lookin'. There's one there. Bottom-center of the spread. The one on the far left. It was a gift from my step-father. An early 1991A1 Compact that's never missed a beat in 500 rounds. I replaced the shear-prone bushing with a new stock part, and laid it aside for occasional carry.

Take note of the "Commander" at the top of the same group. Notice anything odd about that one?

Is that a cut down 1911 (not A1)?

Close. It's a junked/cannabalized 1918 Colt frame...Peened and refitted and cut down only on the dust cover to match the contours of the Series 80 Commander slide. I regained a lot of the lost travel by thinning the recoil guide rod flange to .045 inch. Makes for a good medium-duty range pistol that I've carried a little. The pistol now wears a Colt Commander ring hammer and a Clark grip safety.

Note the check-drlled cracks in the frame. That was 20 years ago.

My Kimber Gold Match

There are many like it but this is mine, I usually shoot with Hogue grips, but I put on the fancy rosewood for its photoshoot.:

Here is a closeup of the slide release scratches I put on it over the years of being a new shooter...they aren't pretty but I put every scratch on there myself.
