1911s

That's funny, I interpreted the statement about $500-$600 basic guns as contradictory to the whole have to jump in the deep end thing. What say you? I just spent $669 on a Remington R1 that will probably see 1,000 rounds or so per year punching paper. Should I have spent more $$$? I'll decide after a few thousand rounds down range. I love the platform and will no doubt buy a another 1911 in the future. If at that time I want different features or higher quality then so be it, but for now I am quite content to wade in the middle of the pool until I decide what I like and what's more important to me.:)

I almost never pass judgement on someones choice of gun purchases unless they are goijng to bet their life on it.

I picked up a S&W 1911Sc back in 2005 for $500 and recently sold it, to a friend for $700...so that I can pay for the custom build on a Colt 1991 that I picked up for $600. I had no intention to shoot that Colt before I sent it off...and never did.

I once had a 1911 smith show me how many parts they actually kept/used from a donor gun...and have since sworn to follow Hilton's suggestions. Either get a working gun...like a Springfield Professional, Les Baer TRS, Dan Wesson CBOB...or get a donor gun for a later build. But, I've shot a lot of 1911s over the years and have a pretty good idea of what I want out of one

Just as a note, the DW would need a little work, but even including that in the price, it would still cost less than the Pro

I have an XDm9 already, and I love that gun. Where are you in the states that you are seeing prices like that? They are still hovering around $600 around here. I am sure the new XDm .45 will still be above that for a while....
Sorry about the late response. I'm in NC and at the last couple of shows, the prices have dropped.
